Verizon and Motorola to announce Droid RAZR M 4G LTE

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 04:17 PM PDT

Motorola has a press event scheduled for September 5 where it’s expected they will announce next model in the RAZR family.  Strangely, it looks like they’re not going to go with the RAZR HD name we’ve expected all along.  No, they’d rather go with the wordier Droid RAZR M 4G LTEEngadget has scooped up all the goodies for the upcoming handset, including the specs and images.

Details for the Droid RAZR M 4G LTE:

  • Android 4.0
  • 4.3-inch qHD (960 x 540) Super AMOLED Advanced display with Gorilla Glass
  • Dual-core MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8-megapixel rear camera (1080p HD video)
  • 3-megapixel front-facing camera
  • 8GB internal storage
  • NFC
  • GSM / UMTS / HSPA+ global roaming

What do you think of that name?  Love that thing or what?  Yeah, we feel you.

More pictures at the source, Engadget.

Samsung trusts that consumers ‘prioritize innovation over litigation’

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 02:53 PM PDT

Given all the Monday morning quarterbacking that has taken place since the Apple and Samsung verdict was handed down, you’d think there’s nothing left to talk about.  (Editor note: We’re done covering it here) On the contrary, Samsung still has a little something to say .

A post on Samsung Electronics Official Global Blog (Samsung Tomorrow) tells us how the company feels about the verdict.  Ironically titled “Internal Memo”, the blog is as public as anything else online.  Nevertheless, it sounds all corporate-y and official.

We initially proposed to negotiate with Apple instead of going to court, as they had been one of our most important customers. However, Apple pressed on with a lawsuit, and we have had little choice but to counter-sue, so that we can protect our company.

Certainly, we are very disappointed by the verdict at the US District Court for the Northern District of California (NDCA), and it is regrettable that the verdict has caused concern amongst our employees, as well as our loyal customers.

However, the judge's final ruling remains, along with a number of other procedures. We will continue to do our utmost until our arguments have been accepted.

The NDCA verdict starkly contrasts decisions made by courts in a number of other countries, such as the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, and Korea, which have previously ruled that we did not copy Apple's designs. These courts also recognized our arguments concerning our standards patents.

History has shown there has yet to be a company that has won the hearts and minds of consumers and achieved continuous growth, when its primary means to competition has been the outright abuse of patent law, not the pursuit of innovation.

We trust that the consumers and the market will side with those who prioritize innovation over litigation, and we will prove this beyond doubt.

Verizon prepping for LG Spectrum 2, Samsung Stratosphere II

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 12:51 PM PDT

Yet another pair of Verizon smartphones have hit the proverbial radar, with word of new Samsung and LG models.  While details are light at this time, we can look for Verizon to debut the Samsung Stratosphere II and LG Spectrum 2 in the near future.

The Samsung Stratosphere II is expected to offer consumers a sliding QWERTY keyboard experience with a 4.0-inch Super AMOLED display and presumably Android 4.0.  Droid Life suggests that the handset will also boast the Snapdragon S4 processor, common among Verizon’s 4G LTE devices.

As for the LG Revolution 2, the specs are pieced together from a variety of benchmarks and other leaks.  Indeed, the handset should feature a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB of RAM, an HD display, and an 8-megapixel camera.  In other words, par for the Android course.

LG Optimus Vu 2 announced for Korea

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 09:07 AM PDT

LG has announced the successor to the Optimus Vu, putting it on Korea’s calendar for September.  The full list of details is nowhere to be found at this point but we’re pretty sure that stuff will come out in short order.

We do know that it will feature an infrared sensor and dedicated app (Q Remote) designed to control your living room entertainment  Other than that, we’ve got some screenshots that show NFC support.  Yeah, very little.  Let’s hope IFA brings us everything we need.  Then, let’s hope it gets to the United States a little quicker than the last model.

Verizon’s LG Intuition images appear ahead of imminent annoucement

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 08:41 AM PDT

On the heels of its recent name leak, the first press-ready images of the LG Intuition have surfaced.  The fellas over at DroidDog received the picture you see here, and posit that the announcement is is right around the corner.  Their proof?  Look at the date in the photo and you see September 15, just a couple weeks from now.  Of course, that type of stuff is not always proof positive of a press release.

With the Optimus Vu is set to see its successor hitting before long, we wonder just how well the LG Intuition will do for Verizon.  Will they have any more luck than T-Mobile did with the Galaxy Note?

iLuv MobiAir review

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 07:23 AM PDT

We’re undoubtedly swimming in accessories these days and as an Android user, the options are practically endless. Between Bluetooth speakers, Bluetooth headphones, wired speakers, and wired headphones, it’s often difficult to know what’s worth your time and what isn’t. When we had  the opportunity to take a look at the MobiAir Blueooth Speaker Dock from iLuv, we were immediately skeptical. I’ve personally got 3 docking stations in the apartment, and it seems like almost EVERY company is turning out a rendition of a speaker-dock to fit in that market-space. Upon use, my trepidation quickly subsided.

First, let’s get to some specs.

  • Dimension (W x H x D): 250mm x 120mm x 50mm
  • Power requirement: AC 100V ~ 240V 60/50 Hz Adapter
  • Built in speaker: 2 inch x 2 EA
  • External firmware software upgrade

The greatest compliment that I can pay this unit is that I am SO angry that it isn’t portable. I WANTED this to be my end-all solution. I WANTED this to replace all of my other docks. The audio quality is fantastic. The volume has reached as loud as I can comfortably push it without offending neighbors. The fact that this unit CHARGES your device is reason enough to consider it. With a sliding MicroUSB connector and ‘myBot’ robotic arms to hold your Android into place, everything feels “sturdy”. You can dock the unit in portrait or landscape mode which wasn’t a big selling point for me, but in the right environment could be a huge plus.

The quality eclipses many of my other devices, and if this unit was able to be freed from its power cord, this would be the only speaker solution I would need. Retailing at $119.99, I definitely recommend looking into it. With some of the portable Monster and Kicker solutions out there at similar price points, you may find the cost a bit high to be tethered to the wall. However, I’ve seen these on Amazon for well under $100, which makes it a fantastic buy. You can find more at iLuv’s official site.

What do you think?

Color details bubble up for Galaxy Note II

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 07:14 AM PDT

We're but a couple of days away from Samsung’s big Galaxy Note II reveal at IFA 2012 but that doesn’t mean we can’t get another tiny detail or two.  In fact, given the relatively small amount of known facts, we’ll take every little one that comes across the desk.

According to SamMobile, the Galaxy Note II will carry a model number of GT-N7100 and come in two color options: Ceramic White and TBD (to be determined).  Maybe Pebble Blue, maybe black… we’ll find out on the 29.

Going further, the source tells us that the Galaxy Note II will arrive on week 40, or October 1-7.  Just a few weeks earlier, the Galaxy S III is expected to to pick up a new “Titan Grey” color option.

HTC Proto likely to become Desire X

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 05:45 AM PDT

The recently leaked HTC Proto looks to have a more formal name in store for when it gets its official announcement.  Word around town is that it will carry the moniker Desire X when it presumably debuts in the coming weeks.

Details of the name come from Swedish site Technytt who found that several online stores have listed the handset with the model number.  Considering how much the Proto resembles the Desire V it makes sense that it stays with that series.

Now it’s just a matter of when the phone gets announced.  IFA takes place later this week and would be a perfect venue for an unveiling.  Of course, HTC has been known to throw some one-off events of their ow as well.

HTC says Beats are here to stay

Posted: 24 Aug 2012 10:00 AM PDT

The past few days had seen quite a stir about whether or not HTC would be removing Beats Audio from future handsets.  According to an official statement out of the company, the enhanced experience looks to be here to stay.

HTC remains strongly committed to Beats Audio and including their innovation in our devices. Any rumor of HTC no longer integrating Beats Audio into our devices is categorically false.
