We’ve known for a while now that Sony is preparing two unique lens attachments for mobile devices, the Sony QX10 and QX100. So what do we actually know about the accessories? We’ve seen official looking images of the attachments, heard rumors regarding the pricing and have reported on details regarding some of the specs. Today we are learning even more, as a new rumor has brought forth quite a few juicy new details.

According to sources reporting to Sony Alpha Rumors, the QX10 and QX100 will actually launch under the new "SmartShot" name, basically taking the Cybershot brand name and mixing it with the word smartphone.

The SmartShot series is shaping up to be pretty impressive, and certainly an out-of-the-box approach to creating a powerful cameraphone.

That’s not all, SAR also brings us the first look at a new white (seen above) variant of the SmartShot, as well as some new details relating to specs and device compatibility.

We had already heard the QX-100 lens accessory would feature a 20.2MP sensor, with f/1.8 aperture, and 3.6x Optical Zoom, as well as a zoom ring.

As for the QX-10, reports claimed it would feature an 18MP CMOS sensor and a f/3.5-3.9 lens.

Now we have learned that both SmartShot models will have lens stabilization, and that they can take HD videos at 1080/30p in the MP4 format. Additionally, the SmartShot lenses will work with both Android and iOS devices via an upcoming Playmemories app, and will automatically save any images taken to both the memory in the lens and to the smartphone.

The SmartShot series is shaping up to be pretty impressive, and certainly an out-of-the-box approach to creating a powerful cameraphone. When's it coming? All signs point to an official unveiling at Sony's September 4th press event at IFA 2013 in Berlin.

Motorola Moto X price said to drop to $100 in Q4, wood panel customization to add $50
Aug 31st 2013, 12:18, by Nick Gray

We typically don’t expect much news during holiday weekends, but we’re kicking off this one with some great news for those who are interested in buying the Motorola Moto X. According to @evleaks, Motorola is planning to drop the on-contract price of the Moto X to just $100 sometime in Q4. Accompanied by an image of different wood back panels for the phone, he also added that customized wood options would set Moto X customers back an additional $50.

The fact that Motorola plans to drop the price of the Moto X by $100 only a few months after launch may seem a bit troubling to some, but we’ve always felt like the device was overpriced. It’s simply not realistic to think that consumers will pay $200 for an on-contract Moto X when they have the option of purchasing the HTC One or Samsung Galaxy S 4 for the same exact price.

Is a $100 Motorola Moto X a more compelling device?

Moto X best feature - Active Display
Aug 31st 2013, 13:10, by Phil Nickinson

Android Central member GMC MaXx writes in our Moto X forums (via the Android Central app, no less):

Not pushing a button to see the time doesn't seem like a big deal, but holy cow, it's awesome!

On my Galaxy Nexus I would push the button countless times a day just to see if I missed any notifications or to check the time. Now when I pull the Moto X out of my pocket the time and any notifications are already shown without hitting a button to turn on the screen. And I don't have to hit a button to turn the screen off before going back in the pocket.

Also, when the phone is sitting on my desk I just give it a nudge and the screen shows me the time. Its such a minor thing, but makes a world of difference in the awesomeness of the Moto X!

We're inclined to agree. It really does change the way you use a phone — even more than that other phone screen gimmick we're toying around with.

Latest leaks suggest the name and an alternative color scheme for Sony's rumored camera attachment

IFA

We're just a few days out from Sony's September 4 press conference in Berlin at IFA 2013, and the rumored 'Lens Camera' has leaked again. This time with a name and an alternative color scheme for the device. A new report from SonyAlphaRumors suggests that the naming will combine smartphone and Cybershot, and the device will launch as the Sony Smart Shot. Not too crazy all things considered.

We're also now seeing for the first time this white and gold version. Until now we'd only seen leaks of a black device, and while a white version was perhaps to be expected, how about gold? Would be a perfect match for that rumored iPhone 5S.

In any case, we're live from Berlin all next week so if this does appear as the Smart Shot, or indeed anything else, we'll be there to bring you every little bit of it.
