If you’re a Chromecast owner, you should be expecting an update to your device relatively soon. Google is pushing out build 13300 to Chromecasts that updates the kernel and includes improvements for security and stability. It’s pretty much just a maintenance release,  but hey, at least it’s an update. Your Chromecast should automatically update over the next few weeks as the build is gradually pushed out.

Galaxy Note 12.2 stops by Bluetooth SIG with similar specs to the updated Galaxy Note 10.1

Galaxy Note 12.2

That 12 inch Galaxy Note tablet showed up just before the Note announcements at IFA, but we didn’t see an announcement alongside the Note 3 and Note 10.1, and, honestly, I think many of us had forgotten about it afterwards. It looks like the massive 12.2 inch tablet is persistent, though, as it recently appeared in a Bluetooth SIG filing under the model number SM-P901, as seen above.

Now, this filing doesn’t necessarily confirm the device, since it could technically still just be a device that Samsung is toying with and may not widely release. But considering this filing does give some weight to the rumors that suggest it’ll use the same 2560 x 1600 display that the Note 10.1 uses, it might be something Samsung is readying for a massive holiday launch. The filing also shows Android 4.2 on board, as well as Bluetooth 4.0. (obviously.)

We still don’t know when Samsung plans on announcing this device, but we’ll be sure to keep you filled in on anything we hear.

Sep 18th 2013, 17:21, by Jerry Hildenbrand

Avivo Galaxy S4 case.

A unique three-piece design and countless color combinations offer both protection and great looks

Avivo has been selling their very stylish and unique cases for a while now, and the good news is that they are about to release a line specifically for the Samsung Galaxy S4. The phone is a thundering success, and with so many of them out there it's only natural for some of the "designer" premium case manufacturers to offer their top-of-the-line gear for the Galaxy S4. And that's exactly what Avivo did with the new RAIL Carbonate cases.

Jump past the break, and let's have a good look at what Avivo is bringing to the table.

Could the Galaxy S5 run Tizen instead of Android?
Sep 18th 2013, 17:00, by Sterling Keys

The fact that Samsung has its own internal operating system really hasn’t been much of a secret. However, what they exactly were planning on doing with their Tizen operating system is another thing all together. Recent reports from IBTimes suggests that Samsung will start pushing out some of its newer devices running the Tizen OS instead of their standard Android.

Introducing Cyanogen Inc., a company fully dedicated to the development of CyanogenMod (& a new user-friendly installer)
Sep 18th 2013, 17:14, by Quentyn Kennemer

The folks at CyanogenMod have just made a very major announcement. No longer is the biggest open-source community project for Android just a hobby — it’s gone big time, and it’s gotten there fast. Introducing CyanogenMod Incorporated, a new full-fledged company that has managed to raise $7 million in funding to start. Wait… what?! This is definitely the ultimate feel-good story, with a project that started out as a hobby for a group of talented developers exploding into what has now become full-fledged careers for many.

So what does this mean? It means CyanogenMod is more than just a ROM. It’s a business. The company is 100% focused on the development of the ROM (which they’re actually calling an Operating System now). While we’re not sure what this will mean internally, it does help secure the future of a project that already had a pretty strong backbone.

cyanogenmod team

In the heartwarming letter to fans, it is revealed that a man by the name of Kirt McMaster helped open the eyes of Steve Kondik to even greater possibilities. The question: what could they do with enough funding? And with a team that consists of as many original CyanogenMod developers as they could corral?

That answer will be given to us in due time, with the team promising some very exciting news for the future. It sounds like they are working on something big — something far beyond the scope of a traditional ROM that simply adds a few cool features. We’re potentially talking Xiaomi-type expansion here, folks, though we won’t get too far ahead of ourselves just yet. Here are the goals, though:

* Organize, lead, and support our community
* Create amazing user experience centered around how YOU work
* Security solutions that really work
* Stay committed to building the features our users need
* No junk
* Constant updates
* Available on everything, to everyone

That last one is really interesting. We’re not sure if they’ll be able to reach that goal, but knowing they’re working toward it is enough to get us excited.

With that, they’re also announcing the Cyanogen Installer, a project which will look to make the installation of CyanogenMod much, much easier for users. We’re sure there will still be some technical know-how required, but they’ll make it prettier and more easy to get up on the single biggest entity in third-party Android development.

This is pretty big news, and although the entire picture has yet to be painted we will be keeping a close eye on this proverbial easel. Be sure to read the full memoir by Steve Kondik over at the CyanogenMod website.

CyanogenMod team goes commercial, bullet-proof installer coming soon
Sep 18th 2013, 16:43, by Jerry Hildenbrand

CyanogenMod, Inc.

The CyanogenMod team is now CyanogenMod, Inc.

CyanogenMod has come a long way since the project started. I remember seeing the beginnings in the G1 threads over at XDA, and have watched the project grow and grow. Today, founder Steve Kondik has announced that they are officially a start-up on the company's website. But not everything will change — Kondik makes it clear that CM will always be about the users.

In all that chaos there have been projects that do it ‘right’, simultaneously supporting the company and the community—this is where CM will go. Our community is our biggest asset. With any change in structure like this, questions about motives and reason are going to need answered. The new products we have created should give you an idea about our motivation, and where we are going.

The new start-up has received over $7 million in funding led by Benchmark Capital — a name familiar to fans of RedHat and others. In a quote given to the Verge, Kondik and CEO Kirt McMaster say they have many ideas to pull a profit to keep things afloat.

We've already seen some of the fruits of their new labors. The foray into things like remote device management and secure communications will differentiate them from the rest of the pack, and with an open philosophy, they will not only continue to garner attention from folks who like to root and hack at their Android devices, but draw other commercial interests as well.

The new company has offices in Palo Alto and Seattle, and the double-digit-member staff is already hard at work with new ideas and projects to make CM better. They've shown off the upcoming CM Installer, which will be on Google Play in the coming weeks. Some sample screenshots are after the break. In addition, the team will be doing an AMA on Reddit this afternoon to answer the questions we're all bound to have.

We expect big things from CM, Inc. I'm sure we'll see them. We all wish them nothing but luck, and look forward to seeing what's next.
