SuperTooth CRYSTAL Bluetooth Car Kit and Speakerphone review

Posted: 18 Jun 2012 02:03 PM PDT

Looking to do your part as a responsible driver but want to keep a tight leash on your wallet?  Consider the SuperTooth CRYSTAL Bluetooth Car Kit and Speakerphone and its $40 price point. For the money you get a solid device with very respectable talk/standby time and the ability to pair two devices at once.

About as long as your typical Android handset, the SuperTooth CRYSTAL features echo cancellation, double nose cancellation, full duplex connectivity, and more.  Charging is done via microUSB and takes about 2.5-3 hours from zero juice.  SuperTooth promises 20 hours talk time and 1000 hours standby time but we've never put that to the test.  Get into the habit of using your car charger around once a week and you should be good.

Additional details include the ability to control call volume, call waiting, call reject, last call redialing, and voice recognition dialing.  Since it's Bluetooth we're talking about, connectivity is a cinch and range is around 30 feet.

One of our favorite features for the SuperTooth CRYSTAL is the automatic wake and pairing which happens whenever you enter the car.  Thanks to its intelligent speakerphone, a simple shut of a car door is often all it takes for the device to wake up and pair with your handset.

Another feature we like is the magnetic snap that attaches the device to its visor clamp.  The portable size of the CRYSTAL allows for us to take the speakerphone into the office with us so we can continue listening to a podcast or album.  The speaker itself is just about the loudest we've reviewed, besting some mini-speaker systems.  This was a huge plus for us when testing with turn-by-turn navigation on a car full of chatty children.

Yes, you can pick up a SuperTooth CRYSTAL from the SuperTooth Store for $69.99 however we found them nearly half that price on Amazon.  As of right now, the CRYSTAL is listed with a $37.99 price point and is worth every penny.  Color options include black, blue, and grey.

Meet the IdolPad PLUS, a $98 Android 4.0 tablet

Posted: 18 Jun 2012 11:28 AM PDT

How does a 7-inch Android 4.0 tablet for under $100 sound to you?  California-based Idolian Mobile has unveiled their new Ice Cream Sandwich-powered tablet which has the distinct honor of coming in with a $98 price tag. Features for the IdolPad PLUS include a 1GHZ CPU, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, microSD expansion, and a 2800mAh battery.  On the surface, these specs are as good as we'd like, if not more.  On the software front, the IdolPad PLUS offers users a full-on Google Play experience and access to hundreds of thousands of apps.

The real test will come in the build quality and whether Idolian Mobile cuts corners and cheapens on plastic and other materials.  It's worth noting that this guys is missing both Bluetooth and GPS, much like the Kindle Fire. And, as appealing as the total package is, the biggest challenge ahead will be getting the word out.  Look for the IdolPad PLUS on Amazon, Sears, buy.com and other online outlets with shipping that begins today, June 18.

Tablet Innovator Idolian.com Unveils Lowest-Price PC in Its Class: IdolPad PLUS

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., June 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Idolian Mobile (www.idolian.com) announces IdolPad PLUS, a new Tablet PC model at a low price of $98. The newest Idolian Tablet PC features the Android 4.0 operating system and a 7-inch capacitive touch screen. At $98, the IdolPad PLUS is the lowest priced 7-inch Android Tablet PC currently available in the market.

The IdolPad PLUS follows Idolian's highly successful IdolPad priced at $99, which has garnered heavy interest and continues in popularity with a large number of sales since it was released. Customer satisfaction with the product has been positive as well.

IdolPad PLUS offers a capacitive touch screen which has a lower response time and is more sensitive than a resistive touch screen. Also, the capacitive touch screen transmits 90 percent of the light emitted from it which provides a better viewing experience. It also offers a Cortex A8 1 GHz CPU processor, 512MB RAM and 4GB storage. The design is very thin and light with fully functional Android Google Play and Adobe Flash Player. And with its price tag of $98, the IdolPad PLUS is significantly less expensive than competitors, such as the Apple iPad and the Amazon Kindle.

Expecting to generate heavy interest in the product, Jay Kim, founder of Idolian Mobile, states that "The IdolPad PLUS will be available for pre-orders on our website (www.idolian.com) by June 8 and shipping will begin June 18." Also, it will be available for sale on Amazon, Sears and buy.com as well.

In addition to the IdolPad PLUS, Idolian will introduce TouchTab IPS, IdolPad 10 and TurboTab 10 within the next few weeks. The company also plans to add an action camera/camcorder to its current product offerings.

Currently, Idolian offers 11 different Tablet PC models from its website. Tablet PC accessories and an extended protection plan are also available.

"We believe IdolPad PLUS brings more options to the tablet PC market," concluded Kim. "Although anyone can appreciate the price point and features, teachers and schools will see IdolPad PLUS as a cost-effective way to bring tablet access into the classroom. Parents will also love giving their children a platform for games and movies without the iPad price tag."

Samsung Galaxy S III to be Samsung Approved for Enterprise (SAFE)

Posted: 18 Jun 2012 07:32 AM PDT

Samsung has today announced that its upcoming Galaxy S III will be the company's first SAFE (Samsung Approved for Business)-branded smartphone on the market.  Directly out of the box, the Galaxy S III will support a full suite of enterprise-ready features as well as 338 IT policies. Features also include on-device AES-256 bit encryption, enhanced support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and support for industry-leading Virtual Private Network (VPN) and Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions.

If this sounds like something that you or your business might be interested in, consider that Samsung is also offering a trade-up program for qualified smartphones. Should you switch to a Galaxy S III then Samsung will give you a rebate check toward the new device.  More details on the SAFE2SWITCH can be found below and on Samsung's website.

Samsung Makes Android SAFE for Enterprises, Offers Trade-In Program to Upgrade to the Galaxy S III

Samsung is the First to Launch a Quality Assured, Enterprise-Compliant Android Smartphone

DALLAS — June 18, 2012 — With the AndroidTM operating system projected to be the No. 1 platform for enterprise smartphones by 2013[1], Samsung Telecommunications America, LLC (Samsung Mobile) is simplifying enterprise adoption with the introduction of SAFE (Samsung Approved for Enterprise) and the first SAFE-branded smartphone in the United States, the Galaxy S® III, which will be available at AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and US Cellular by July. To aid prosumers and corporations in accessing the most innovative smartphone on the market, Samsung is also introducing SAFE2SWITCH, a trade-up program that offers competitive pricing for qualifying smartphones for both individuals and enterprise customers.

SAFE – Optimized for the Enterprise

SAFE provides a comprehensive approach to making Android devices secure and manageable by systematically meeting the rapidly evolving needs of IT and the growing number of businesses allowing employees to "bring your own device" (BYOD) to work. Samsung created SAFE as a way to defragment the Android OS across multiple versions from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich at U.S. carriers. Out of the box, the SAFE-branded Galaxy S III supports a full suite of enterprise-ready features and capabilities with support for 338 IT Policies.[2] This includes on-device AES-256 bit encryption, enhanced support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and support for industry-leading Virtual Private Network (VPN) and Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions.

Over the last 12 months, Samsung has surpassed its next nearest handset and smartphone competitors to become No. 1 globally[3] and now has its sights set on the enterprise. Working closely with enterprise customers and industry-leading solutions providers, Samsung developed a thorough quality assurance program.  This program begins with MDM and VPN solutions providers using Samsung's software development kit to deeply integrate their solution on the SAFE device.  Once the development effort is completed, Samsung and the solution provider then thoroughly test and verify the device's support for the MDM and/or VPN software. This collaboration, coupled with the testing process, creates solutions that are optimized for SAFE devices and enterprise use including adoption within regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services and government.

"It's now safe to say that the 'Next Big Thing in Enterprise' is here with the near-term availability of SAFE-branded Galaxy S III devices at five U.S. carriers," said Tim Wagner, Vice President and General Manager of Enterprise Sales at Samsung Mobile.  "The highly desirable, SAFE-branded and QA-tested Galaxy S III smartphone systematically defragments Android to provide a consistent level of IT compliance for individuals who demand the very best in both their personal and professional lives."

Galaxy S III – Powerful, Collaborative, Secure

The Galaxy S III offers secure features and capabilities that may be used in a wide range of business situations to improve efficiency and productivity.

  • AllShare Play - Group Cast:  Securely share PowerPoint presentations and PDFs with business partners also using Galaxy S III devices
  • Share Shot:  Quickly and easily compile and share photos with colleagues and contacts
  • S Beam One Touch Sharing (NFC and Wi-Fi Direct):  Quickly exchange contact and meeting information or company documents by simply tapping phones together. S Beam can also be controlled via an MDM solution.
  • Intelligent Display and Motion:  Focus on the job at hand with intuitive features like Direct Call and Smart Stay
  • HD Super AMOLEDTM Display:  Review detailed plans or blueprints with brilliant 4.8" HD Super AMOLED display on second-generation rugged Corning® Gorilla® Glass
  • Samsung TecTiles:  NFC programmable tags and mobile application transform how businesses, both large and small, engage their customers

SAFE2SWITCH Prosumer / Enterprise Trade-In Program

With the launch of the SAFE-branded Galaxy S III, Samsung is announcing the availability of a trade-up program called SAFE2SWITCH which simplifies the transition to Samsung SAFE devices from Samsung or other manufacturers' smartphones. Both prosumers and corporate customers alike can take advantage of this program which offers very competitive trade-in values in real-time from their existing smartphone or Internet-connected device. For more details, visit www.samsungsafe2switch.com.

LG Eclipse coming to AT&T and Sprint later this year?

Posted: 18 Jun 2012 06:00 AM PDT

LG is getting ready to launch their best smartphone ever, and people are actually calling it a "superphone". I am talking about the LG (say what!?) Eclipse, which was leaked a month ago. We heard that it will be running on the blazing fast Quad-Core Qualcomm Krait CPU with Adreno 320 GPU. Now, the device has appeared in a User Agent Profile, as well as on Bluetooth SIG certification. That's not all, folks - the most interesting thing here is that the Eclipse is showing up in two flavors, the LG E970 and LG LS970.

According to Engadget, the LG LS970 is for Sprint and the LG E970 is for AT&T. If you read UAP above, you can see that it comes with a display resolution of 1280 x 768, and we are told that it comes with a 4.67" display, meaning the pixel density is probably 320ppi. Bluetooth SIG openly mentioned that the device will be available in the North American market around 2012.10.31,so we should see it somewhere by the end of this year. It will make the competition even tougher for the LG Eclipse because by then; we will see some powerful devices from different manufacturers in the market.

Don't forget to check the benchmarks of the LG E970/LS970 at  GLBench (E970)/(LS970)AnTuTu, and Nenamark2, and don't forget to share your thoughts with us about this upcoming monster from LG.

Posted: 18 Jun 2012 05:58 AM PDT

Lumigon is an European brand that many people know about; famous for making smartphones with a bag  full of bells and whistles. They recently announced the Lumigon T2, which is without a doubt a good looking devices. Now, according to GeekyGadgets, Lumigon is finally gearing up to launch this device this summer with a price tag of 600 euro, and it's approx. $756 after conversion.

High-End Samsung QWERTY slider pictured sporting a 720p display

Posted: 18 Jun 2012 05:55 AM PDT

All the Motorola Droids aside, there are really no high-end Qwerty Androids available... in this writer's opinion. However, that fact might change very soon, according to Pocketnow. Well, alright - a 720p screen doesn't necessarily mean a high-end processor, but it makes it a lot more likely. The display on this device looks fairly small so this could make for some real high pixel density. You folks on big-magenta may have something to look forward to with the device pictured above. We're also being told that this phone will come with a 5mp rear camera, front-facing camera and LED notification light, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU (S3 or S4? We're not sure). While these are all rumors at this point, we would like to see some higher end specs on this device for the qwerty crowd.

Are you waiting for a high-specced qwerty slider or are qwerty-keyboards something from the past? Please let us know in the comments below.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to come with flexible display?

Posted: 18 Jun 2012 05:39 AM PDT

Okay, ladies and gentlemen, it's that time of the week. That special time when we discuss some juicy rumors. Recently, we heard that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will be coming this October, though we took that rumor with a pinch of salt and decided to wait for some solid stuff. In the meantime, an online Korean newspaper known as http://news.mk.co.kr/ is spilling some beans about the next Galaxy Note.

According to the web publication, Samsung will launch the Galaxy Note 2 with a 12MP camera... but that's not all. It will be the first smartphone to feature Samsung's flexible LED display. It will be a 5.4 Inch display on a device rocking Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, means that it will be Samsung's first batch of devices featuring the mighty new iteration of Android.

However, there is no word on release dates, nor is there anything about pricing; earlier rumors suggested that it will be out somewhere near October. But, we can't just put our money that easily on rumors, so we would like to wait for a leaked screenshot or blurrycam, at least. When Samsung introduced the flexible displays at CES, they also mentioned that the first smartphone with this feature will be launched later this year.

That's all we know about the next big 'monster' from Samsung at the moment, but don't forget to share your thoughts with us in the comment box below.

Thanks Alex Dumitru for the tip

T-Mobile talks 4G LTE, trials starting from next month

Posted: 18 Jun 2012 05:33 AM PDT

T-Mobile said a long time ago that they will be launching their very own 4G LTE network in 2013 to get face-to-face with their competitors, i.e - Verizon, AT&T. Though Verizon is already rocking it and there are several devices available in the market right now with 4G LTE capability, T-Mobile is actually falling behind right now, but they are trying their best to catch up.

T-Mobile has now announced that they will start initial testing and trials this summer, starting from next month. T-Mobile Senior-VP of Technology Dave Mayo gave a detailed and quick update about T-Mobile 4G LTE progress on their official blog. He also talked about the $4 Billion deal:

"Just last month, T-Mobile announced multi-year agreements with Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks to support our $4 billion 4G network evolution plan, which will include a modernization of 37,000 cell sites and a move to the latest, state-of-the-art, LTE release 10 capable equipment".

T-Mobile is planning to upgrade 400 cell sites to LTE capabilities, and this will reach a whopping 2,500 by the end of July. We can expect Android phones with T-Mobile 4G LTE power by the end of 2012, or maybe in early 2013. I am really looking forward to T-Mobile's first ever 4G LTE phone... anyone else interested? Tell us about your thoughts in the comment box below.
