Google+ app now gets auto-awesome notifications
Aug 28th 2013, 02:35, by Aditya Thawardas

auto_awesomeAuto-Awesome is a really, well, awesome feature for Google+ Photos that was revealed at the I/O that makes animated, filmstrip, or panoramic versions of your photos automatically once they’ve been uploaded. Today’s update to the Android, iOS and desktop Google+ app enables notifications for whenever your photos are auto-awesome-ified.

The update, which also includes various bug fixes, is rolling out as we post.

Verizon officially outs Kyocera Hydro Elite, enlists Bear Grylls to market features
Aug 28th 2013, 01:46, by Jared Peters

Verizon_Kyocera_Hydro_Elite_Official

Verizon’s Kyocera Hydro Elite has leaked many times before, so the only thing left to happen was for Verizon to officially make the device, well, official. That’s finally happened, with Verizon setting up to offer the device online August 29th for $99.99, after a $50.00 mail-in rebate, and with a new two-year agreement, obviously.

The Hydro Elite is a solid device, with a 720p 4.3 inch screen powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor. It’s also packing an 8 megapixel rear camera, LTE support, the ability to stay submerged in up to three feet of water for a half hour.  It also has NFC touch-and-share and wireless charging capabilities, which is starting to become a trend for Verizon phones. To help really push the phone over the top, however, is the fact that survivalist expert Bear Grylls will help market the rugged features of this device. There’s a handful of videos on Kyocera’s YouTube channels with Grylls demonstrating the phone’s waterproof features and its unique “Sonic Receiver” technology, which supposedly makes the device audible under noisy circumstances. It’s a pretty crazy marketing scheme, but it’s extremely entertaining either way.

Anybody planning on picking up one of these waterproof phones in the next few days?

Goophone to release Android-powered iPhone 5C clone
Aug 28th 2013, 01:57, by Jared Peters

goophone iphone 5c

No, that’s not another mock up of Apple’s latest rumored iPhone 5C. It’s actually a render of Goophone’s latest iPhone clone device, which is based on the yet unconfirmed iPhone 5C. Specs are obviously going to be different from the actual device, as this Goophone 5C is rumored to have a 960 x 540 screen, dual-core MediaTek processor, and most importantly, Android 4.2. Speculation says this device will only cost $100 if it hits the production stages, but that’s still not definite yet; Goophone says they’re waiting for Apple to make the device official before they start cloning.

I guess there really is a market for everything.

Price of all Nexus 4 phones cut $100 in the Play Store
Aug 28th 2013, 02:27, by Aditya Thawardas

Nexus_4_TA_Back_Top_Crystalized_Pattern_02Google’s getting ready for their new phone, which is supposed to still be months away. The price of the Nexus 4 was cut $100 in the Play Store, to $200 for the Nexus 4 8GB device, and $250 for the 16GB version. That’s contract-free for both. This is an amazing deal for a stock phone that’s sure to keep receiving prompt updates.

Remember, the Nexus 4 only works in AT&T and Sprint networks, and doesn’t have LTE functionality. If that’s fine with you, and you’re ready for a new phone, click the link below to take advantage of the great deal.

LG Nexus 4 price slashed by $100
Aug 28th 2013, 02:03, by Scott Webster

nexus4_hero_image_720

Get ready to watch the Nexus hype machine whip itself into a full-on frenzy; the Nexus 4 is $100 less to purchase starting this evening. Indeed, both the 8GB and 16GB models are now $199 and $249, respectively. And yes, this is for no-contract handsets running the latest version of Android (4.3 Jelly Bean).

Given the recent release of an updated Nexus 7 tablet and the one-year anniversary of the Nexus 4 coming up, all eyes turn toward the eventual successor. One would be forgiven to assume the next model is to debut in the coming weeks. As to who makes that next Nexus remains unclear; Motorola and LG have both had their names tossed about of late.

In the meanwhile, you could do much worse than to pick up an LG Nexus 4 at these very attractive, no-contract prices.  The specs, many of you know, include a 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB RAM, a 4.7-inch 1280×768 IPS LCD, and a 2100 mAh battery.

Google+ update adds auto-awesome notifications, bug fixes, and more
Aug 28th 2013, 01:21, by Joe Hindy

Google+ Plus logo

Google+ has started rolling out a new update today. The update isn’t huge but it does come with some essentials and a new feature. Among other things, the typical bug fixes and performance enhancements will be there. The big new feature, though, is getting a notification when your photos get auto-awesome’d.

According to Virgil Dobjanschi, who works for Google, you’ll get a notification when Google+ gives you some auto-awesome goodness. He writes:

Today's new Android app is mostly about bug fixes and performance improvements, but we did squeeze in a feature that'll make photos more fun: Auto Awesome notifications.

Auto Awesome finds sets of photos in your library, and creates fun new versions automatically (like animations, panoramas, or filmstrips). Starting today you'll get notified on Android, iOS and the desktop whenever one of these gems is waiting for you.

The update hasn’t rolled out to everyone yet so if you haven’t gotten it, just hang in there. It’ll roll out to you soon. For those who keep track, this will be version 4.1.1. Has anyone given the new update a try? If you have or you want to talk about it, let us know in the comments.

Nexus 4 price gets cut to a mere $199
Aug 28th 2013, 00:38, by Nick Sarafolean

The Nexus 4 by LG and Google has always been a steal at it’s low price of $299. Now El Goog is sweetening the deal even further with a price drop down to a mere $199 for the 8GB model and $249 for the 16GB model. At that price, you’re getting a phone that still has relatively great specs, stock Android and is blessed with the Nexus name, thus ensuring speedy software updates in the future. If you’re on a GSM carrier, you have absolutely no reason not to buy one of these at this bargain price.

Now to the other thing that most likely accompanies this price drop. We’re fast approaching that time of the year when Google comes out and launches a new Nexus phone which means that this price drop on last year’s Nexus 4 is probably to make room for the successor. So what will the successor be? That’s not quite as cut and dry of an issue. Differing reports are everywhere with some claiming that the new Nexus will be made by Motorola. Others are saying that it will be a stock version of the LG G2. Either way, we’re all eager to get our hands on the next Nexus.

But hurry up and jump on this deal because chances are, it’s not going to last long. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if they sold out by late tonight.

Are you buying/have you bought a Nexus 4 at this reduced price?

New Nexus 7 now available from the UK Play Store for £199/£239

Nexus 7 (2013)

Latest Google tablet also now available from several retail chains

Just as we had confirmed with our own sources previously, the 2013 Nexus 7 has just gone on sale in the Google Play Store for residents of the UK. Fashionably late when compared to availability in the U.S. and Canada, the new Nexus 7 weighs in at £199.99 for the 16GB model and £239.99 for 32GB.

Google is also sending out an email to those in the UK who signed up for updates indicating that the tablet should be on sale at several retailers now including Currys PC World, Amazon, Tesco, Argos and John Lewis. The email also says to contact the stores for specific availability.

No word at the moment on a mobile data version of the tablet, but if you're okay sticking to Wifi you can go place your order or try your luck at a retail location now.
