Moto X custom order shipping slips to 8 days
Aug 27th 2013, 19:43, by Cory Gunther

When Google and Motorola announced the new Moto X smartphone and all the custom features many were extremely excited. Being able to customize a smartphone, have it built in the USA (Murica) and delivered to your door all in 4 days was their promise. Last week we confirmed the shipping times might be slightly delayed, due to demand, but will get to that 4-day mark soon.

Well, today we can officially confirm that customized Moto X smartphones ordered from AT&T and Motorola’s Moto Maker site have officially been delayed a bit. They’re available as we speak for both new customers, upgrades, and to buy outright, but shipping has slipped to double their initial estimates.

Going through the process over on Moto Maker and customizing your beautiful new smartphone is a breeze, and it will still be built and assembled in the USA and delivered right to your doorstep. However, at the time of writing this the shipping times are currently 8 days out, and that could push further back now that they’ve fully opened the site this afternoon.

Motorola warned us that high demand might cause initial delays and slipping in ship times, but after they improve the process and iron out the kinks they state the 4-day shipping and delivery promise will be met. Hopefully once everything starts rolling smooth they’ll give us back the option for custom engravings too. Oh, and as a reminder, these customization options will arrive later this year for Verizon Wireless customers, so get excited.

Moto Maker opens for online orders, full retail Moto X for $579

The Moto X design studio simply named Moto Maker is nothing new, and you should all know plenty about it by now. Being able to completely customize your new AT&T Moto X smartphone. Well, until today you could only order a phone in select AT&T stores (on-contract) and then proceed to the design studio, but today it’s open to the public and we also have full retail pricing.

The Moto Maker site is open for anyone and everyone to design their own custom Moto X. All those pretty color variations for the backplate, different colors on the front, accents, and even your wallpaper and boot-up message. Sadly we still don’t have engravings, but that is coming soon.

You can now head right to the Moto Maker site and get started whether you’re upgrading to the X on AT&T and signing a new contract, or they’ll let you buy it outright and custom order your own for $579 off contract. So it appears the full retail pricing for a custom X on AT&T is $579. I wonder what Google will ask for it when it arrives on the Play Store, if it ever does.

Moto is saying we’re all welcome to Design, Share, and Ship the Moto X with a brand new blog post this afternoon. I still think that sexy blue with white accents is the color for me, but we’d love to hear what you’d choose yourself in the comments below. Oh, and for those on T-Mobile. You can buy an AT&T model off-contract and customize it, then just unlock it for T-Mobile and still enjoy LTE. But we didn’t tell you that.

Who is getting a custom Moto X this week? More details on the device can be found from our full Moto X Review.
