Kobo Arc 7, Tegra-powered Arc 7HD, 10HD tablets announced
Aug 28th 2013, 00:45, by Juan Carlos Torres

eReading device maker Kobo has just unveiled a series of devices that aims to give the best reading experience for digital book lovers. Included in this are three new additions to the company’s Arc brand of Android tablets.

The Kobo Arc 10HD is built for an ultimate multimedia experience. Powered by a 1.8 GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 4 chip and 2 GB of RAM and topped with a 10-inch 2560×1600 display, the Arc 10HD will not only deliver a great reading experience but will also be able to take advantage of the games and apps available on Google Play Store. It is also equipped with a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, dual stereo speakers, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and Miracast connectivity for multimedia and streaming activities. Battery life can last from 9.5 hours to 10 days depending on use. The Arc 10HD comes pre-installed with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

For those who want something more handy without skimping too much on hardware, the Arc 7HD offers an alternative. This tablet runs on a 1.7 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor and 1 GB of RAM. Even with a smaller 7.0-inch size, the Arc 7HD still offers a decent viewing experience with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels and 1080p video playback capability. Like the 10HD, the Arc 7HD also runs Android 4.2.2. Kobo has also unveiled the Arc 7, a tablet made for beginners, with significantly lower specs and a slightly lower price tag. The Arc 7 houses a 1.2 GHz quad-core MTK8125 chip with 1 GB of RAM. Unlike its HD counterpart, the Arc 7′s 7.0-inch display only supports a resolution of 1024×600.

The Arc 10HD is available only in black for a price of $399.99, with no details on storage capacity. The Arc 7HD also comes in black but has two options, a 16 GB model for $199.99 and a 32 GB model for $249.99. The Arc 7, which probably also comes only in black, is priced at $149 with 8 GB of internal storage.

HTC One in Blue spotted again, mums the word from HTC
Aug 27th 2013, 23:48, by Cory Gunther

There’s a pretty blue version of one of the best smartphones on the planet. That being the impressive HTC One. We’ve seen a few renders as well as pictures of a blue variant out and in the wild this week, but HTC still hasn’t confirmed such a device exists. Today however an OEM parts dealer has the device in blue as well, so all we need now is for Verizon and others to offer it.

While the image above isn’t real, and was made by AndroidAndMe, it gives us an idea of how it may look. Although we’re expecting it to be on the lighter shade of blue. Earlier this week we got our first official look at the Blue HTC One in the wild, too.

With the device out in the wild, and countless leaks, hopefully we’ll hear some official information from HTC this week. They could be waiting for IFA in early September to unveil it, and we’ve already got our hands on the red flavor, but your guess is as good as ours at the moment.

Another OEM parts dealer eTradeSupply has the Blue model in stock, at least the casing, which gives us one more sighting to add to the list. We’ve heard Verizon would be the exclusive carrier of the blue model, but so far mums the word from Verizon and HTC both. We’ll update once we learn more. Who’d get this phone in Blue? I know I would.

BlackBerry tipped to turn BBM into its own company
Aug 27th 2013, 23:04, by Cory Gunther

We know the once popular smartphone manufacturer BlackBerry is struggling these days, and have heard multiple reports of possible buyouts from all different angles. A new report today however is taking a different approach where they could start to split things up. Most notably is BlackBerry Messenger, known as BBM, which for some reason is still extremely popular and even coming soon to Android.

BBM for Android has been in the news a lot as of late, and it should be arriving sometime in the next few months. Just yesterday we saw an official add for it on Samsung devices in Africa, which was quickly pulled, but we still know BBM for Android is coming soon.

Today a few reports out of the Wall Street Journal and their usual “people familiar with the matter” BlackBerry (aka RIM) could be looking to spin off BBM into its own completely independent company. Sort of. Their report and source claims that BlackBerry could make BBM and the entire service its own subsidiary company.

This could give BBM a boost right when it needs it most. With Google Hangouts, WhatsApp, and many other chat alternatives readily available, not to mention BlackBerry devices being a rarity these days. Letting BBM operate on its own and push to support Android could really do it some good.

We’re still expecting the a free version of BBM for Android to arrive on the Play Store any day now, but this could be one more way the service could continue to grow and improve. It has 60 million users now, but that’s nothing compared to the nearly 200 million of popular options like WhatsApp.
