Amazon announced the availability of a new API today to help developers further monetize their apps. The Amazon Mobile Associates API is an extension of the company’s Amazon Associates web-based affiliate program, bringing the power of Amazon to Kindle Fire and Android based devices. The new API enables developers to:

  • sell a single item from Amazon as an in-app purchase;
  • bundle the purchase of a physical product from Amazon with digital content within an app;
  • showcase an entire category of goods from Amazon within the app.

With the API integrated into an app, users will have an option available to get more information about whatever item it is the developer has included as being available. Once an information page opens, the user can complete a purchase using their Amazon 1-Click settings. For developers, they will earn 6% of the total purchase amount and do not need to deal with managing or shipping inventory as all of that is handled by Amazon. Amazon also points out the API will streamline the process of incorporating in app purchases of physical goods.

If you are a developer interested in including this capability in your app, hit the source link for more information on how to select an ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number), search term, or even incorporate the Amazon Product Advertising API. You can also check out Amazon’s promotional video announcing the new API below.
