Back in May, famed leaker @evleaks released an image of the Kyocera Hydro Elite, claiming the handset would arrive on Verizon's network by the end of June. While the date was way off, Verizon has now officially announced the Hydro Elite will be available on Big Red starting August 29th.

The Kyocera Hydro Elite is powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz processor accompanied by 1.5GB RAM. It also features a 4.3-inch 720p display, 16GB storage, microSD, global roaming support, NFC, an 8MP rear cam, 1.3MP front cam, 4G LTE, wireless charging support and a 2,100 mAh battery. To help further improve battery life, the Hydro Elite also includes the company’s Eco Mode with MaxiMZR power-management software.

Looking for something a bit more on the rugged side than your typical smartphone? The Elite not only is dustproof, but it can also withstand being in the water for up to 30 minutes at a max depth of 3.28-feet.

While the Hydro Elite's combination of decent mid-range specs and ruggedized hardware already helps the device stand out a little, what really sets the phone apart from similar devices is the use of Kyocera's proprietary Smart Sonic technology. For those that aren’t aware, basically this means the phone uses a "ceramic actuator" – in lieu of a regular speaker – to deliver sound directly into your eardrum. The end result is superior audio quality that is audible even in noisy environments.

So how much will the handset set you back come the 29th? The Hydro Elite will be available for just $99 with two year contract, after $50 mail-in rebate.
