Gameloft teases Real Soccer 2013 in new video

Posted: 13 Sep 2012 10:57 AM PDT

Gameloft is at it again today teasing one of their most successful games for mobile devices. We all know it as Real Soccer 2013 but for the rest of the world this is Real Football. Today Gameloft has released some teaser images as well as a behind the scenes video of their 10th iteration of the popular game. Those Soccer fans will want to take a peek below.

And yes, it’s Soccer! Real Soccer 2013 looks to be their best yet as they are claiming it to be the most immersive Soccer experience yet. I’ve always been a fan of the Real Soccer franchise and can’t wait to give the latest and greatest a try. The graphics look great but I’ll let you see for yourself.

The Gameloft crew even went to Madrid to learn from the pros themselves with this latest version of the game, and hopes to take it to new heights. With stunning new graphics, improved visuals and lifelike physics this looks to be quite a fun gaming experience. Gameloft has even added an additional “off field” mode where you can manage your team away from the field. Pretty interesting right?

Gameloft goes on to talk about being able to assemble and build your own championship Soccer team from the ground up and win it all. This will truly be the most immersive experience yet. So far they are still light on an official release date but it should be arriving for Android smartphones and tablets sometime soon. Who’s ready for some Soccer? Errr Football? More details from recent Gameloft releases can be found below.

LG and Qualcomm invite prepares us to “live without boundaries”

Posted: 13 Sep 2012 10:23 AM PDT

If you’ve been patiently awaiting the next generation of smartphones, LG and Qualcomm claim to have what you’ve been waiting for. Telling us to prepare to "live without boundaries." Press invites have just started making the rounds for an upcoming LG and Qualcomm event in the US later on September 19th where we’ll surely be seeing the new and impressive LG Optimus G smartphone.

Both Qualcomm and LG have been making subtle yet nice hints that this will be the next-gen of smartphones. Qualcomm has introduced their extremely fast, powerful, and efficient Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor (double that of the Galaxy S III) and LG’s introduced their new TrueHD IPS display and new and improved battery life technology. Pair all of this together and LG is hoping this catapults them to the next level.

Their "live without boundaries" comment will probably have a lot to do with that extremely powerful quad-core processor under the hood, as well as battery life. LG claims their screen enhancements and battery technology paired with the S4 Pro will offer exceptional results — and thus life without boundaries.

LG has been teasing the upcoming Optimus G in a few very light on details videos, so we still don’t fully know what to expect but the device has been officially announced by LG a few weeks back. We can expect a 4.7-inch TrueHD IPS+ display with a 1280 x 768 resolution, on-screen nav buttons, a 13 megapixel camera (in some regions) 2GB of RAM, and of course that 1.5 GHz quad-core processor chugging along with ease. We’ll be learning more at LG’s event on September 19th for the US model — hinted as the AT&T Eclipse 4G LTE — as well as other details on the Korean model any day now. Stay tuned!

Galaxy Nexus in Canada gets Jelly Bean – Verizon update MIA

Posted: 12 Sep 2012 04:37 PM PDT

We have some excellent news for all those enjoying the popular Samsung Galaxy Nexus up in Canada. It looks like the flagship Nexus device is finally getting the much anticipated and awaited update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Google announced it back in June and said it would arrive mid July — which it did for the international version. Carrier branded models sadly have waited a bit longer and Verizon’s is completely missing in action.

This news comes as both good and bad news. The good news is almost every Galaxy Nexus has finally been updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean just as Google’s intended. The bad news is Verizon is still doing what they do best — which is taking outright forever to get this done.

The original international Galaxy Nexus was first to be updated, then the version from the Play Store started shipping with 4.1 Jelly Bean. Then the Now Network who received the Galaxy Nexus months and months after Verizon somehow managed to beat them to the punch. It’s now been a few more weeks and everyone up in Canada is being treated to the same lovely update. Folks using the Galaxy Nexus on Rogers, FIDO, and TELUS have all started or are about to get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and all that buttery smooth performance and Google Now. Sadly us folks using Verizon are still twiddling our thumbs.

This update has been a little slow considering this is a Google Experience device, as most “Nexus” branded devices get updates rather quickly. However Verizon users still aren’t so lucky. Verizon was the exclusive US launch partner of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, yet all we have is a few leaks and not a word on a release date. Hopefully someone from Samsung or Verizon can answer some questions, because we have a few!

Google Chrome update improves YouTube controls and fixes a few bugs

Posted: 12 Sep 2012 04:19 PM PDT

Today Google has pushed a quick update out to their popular Google Chrome browser for Android smartphones and tablets. While the browser still isn’t available for everyone in the world of Android it is slowly making great progress, and even will come pre-installed on upcoming Motorola phones. Check out the new details below.

Google’s been rather quiet on Chrome updates in the past but this time around they gave us a decent little list of changes. The new version is listed as Chrome M18.1 and has tons of stability and overall security improvements. Apparently Chrome’s sandbox feature has been seriously overhauled on this update, although they don’t mention that but the folks from Android Police caught notice. Here’s the quick change-log:

-Location preference now integrated to system level Google apps location setting.
-Youtube videos controls now work in full screen mode; videos continue playing after a screen lock/unlock
-Fixes to make third-party IMEs work better with Chrome

You’ll probably notice the YouTube video controls now work great in full screen mode, something that was a disaster before this update. Personally I just head right to the YouTube app myself when prompted in Jelly Bean — but everyone is different I suppose. Then it will pause/resume with ease if you put your phone to sleep. Before we’d have issues where it would freeze and you’d need to start over on your video.

Last but not least they mention some additional support for all those third party IMEs to now work better with Chrome for Android. This means many keyboards like SwiftKey 3 that might have had a few issues should now work with ease. There is also some very very minor UI changes as well as options such as “report an issue” that have been removed from the settings menu. For those who love Chrome and want the latest and fastest version for Android hit the link below and get it today.

Samsung Galaxy Note II vs iPhone 5

Posted: 12 Sep 2012 04:05 PM PDT

Today Apple unveiled their newly redesigned iPhone 5 to the world and the first thing that came to my mind was the Galaxy Note II. Obviously the Galaxy S III is a great device to compare it to as well, but the Galaxy Note II and the iPhone 5 are the latest and greatest from both companies. Lets take a look at the two devices below.

Where to start? We could ramble on about software, hardware, specs, size, and Android vs Apple for days and days but instead we just want to share the details on both and let you guys decide. Apple has put all their technology into one polished and now slightly larger iPhone 5 — complete with a 4-inch Retina display. Samsung on the other hand has taken their tablet and smartphone technology and blend them into one with their new 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED display packing Galaxy Note II.

In this crazy world of Android smartphones is 5.5-inches too big? Or is 4-inches simply too small? This marks the first iPhone to have the larger display, so that could very well persuade many folks that direction that didn’t want to live with a smaller screen. Also, now that Android has so many 4.5+ display sizes that same 4-inch screen could still be considered too small for many. We’ll let you decide.

As far as specs the iPhone 5 comes with that 4-inch Retina Display, their A6 (dual-core) processor, most likely 1GB of RAM, and an improved 8 megapixel camera with panorama features and 1080p video. Then around front you have a 720p HD Facetime front camera as well. This time around we finally have 4G LTE too, which is a first for the iPhone. As far as internal storage you get the usual wide array of 16, 32, and 64GB storage options — and obviously no micro-SD support. Running on iOS 6 and having their much hyped Siri, as well as the ever growing App Store.

For the Galaxy Note II however, everything is bigger and faster. We have a massive 5.5-inch 1280 x 720p HD Super AMOLED display, a powerful 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 32 and 64GB of storage options, a similar 8 megapixel camera on the rear with 2 megapixel front and more. Then obviously we have 4G LTE since Android has been enjoying that for nearly two years now. Samsung however runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean — the absolute latest and greatest OS from Google. It has Google Now and Samsung S-Voice for Siri-like features (or better) and the S-Pen stylus for absolute precision and content creation. It’s safe to say you can do much more with the Galaxy Note II than the iPhone, but then who will use that stylus?

We don’t want to stir up the trolls, but surely there’s already more than a few roaming the interwebs this evening. Without getting down to all the nitty gritty details and specifics what device are you more impressed with? Do you like where Samsung is going with larger screens and content creation, or Apple with their sticking to what works attitude?

For now check out a quick look at our Galaxy Note II hands-on video, and we’ll add one of the iPhone 5 here shortly. We’d love to hear your thoughts regarding both!

iPhone 5 revealed by Apple with 4-inch Retina display

Posted: 12 Sep 2012 02:27 PM PDT

So, today is Apple day in case no one managed to notice the flood of news on basically every social network platform. Apple has just unveiled their all new iPhone 5 today along with a few improved iPods. We all knew it was coming, we knew the specs, and now it’s official. While we are obviously Android fans at heart here at AC the news is worth a quick mention.

We have to give them a little coverage. After all, knowing and learning about the competition is a great way to approach the situation. We’ve seen countless leaks for weeks and weeks about the all new iPhone, and today they confirmed the iPhone 5. With an amazing 4-inch Retina display, a powerful processor (not sure if dual or quad-core) and 4G LTE. Basically everything we were expecting last year and what many Android smartphones have been enjoying for well over a year.

"This is unlike anything we or anyone else in our industry has made before."

While Apple’s new man in charge Tim Cook was on stage the quote above was one of the many he stated. We thought it was certainly worth a mention just to see our readers thoughts. The new iPhone 5 does look pretty dressed in all brushed aluminum, but I’d hardly say it’s like “anything else” in the industry. Overall Apple did make some rather neat adjustments. The smartphone is taller, it has a bigger display, better battery life, and improved 8 megapixel camera (with panorama mode now), 720p front facing Facetime video camera, a faster processor, and is made of nothing but durable aluminum and glass on the outside.

This time around Apple focused more on the hardware during their announcement and didn’t get into too many iOS 6 operating system details, but they continue to call it the “world’s most advanced mobile operating system.” We can’t really say we were expecting more, and that is because we already knew what to expect from the countless leaks we’ve already seen of the smartphone.

An Android fan might go through the device’s specifications and find nothing entirely new here. Yes Apple has an ecosystem that is wide, powerful, and still flourishing but everything we saw today has been available on Android for the better part of the past year or more. We don’t want to get the trolls started but feel free to drop us a few “friendly” comments in the comment box below with your thoughts, comments, or concerns. For those interested in everything that happened today you can see more from our sister site SlashGear, and you can even check out their iPhone 5 hands-on. (and yes, they had a thumbs up on stage)
