Nexus 7 Sleeve hits Google Play in US and Canada for $29
Aug 13th 2013, 18:23, by Andrew Martonik

Nexus 7 sleeve

Neoprene and microfiber protection for every model of Nexus 7.

Along with the announcement that the Nexus 7 is now available in Canada, Google has also put up the first official accessory for the device in the Play Store. The simply-named "Nexus 7 Sleeve" is a neoprene and microfiber zip-up case designed to protect your tablet. The styling seems to be pretty basic and is black on the outside with grey cloth on the inside, and has a second pouch on the outside for other cables and accessories.

The Play Store listing indicates that the Nexus 7 sleeve will work with both 2012 and 2013 editions of the tablet, which is nice. The sleeve is now on sale in the U.S. and Canada for $29.99 and indicates that it will ship in 1-2 business days, with some pretty expensive shipping options starting at $17.98. If this design isn't your thing, Google also sells a generic 7-inch tablet sleeve from its own store for less.

Let's hope this is just the beginning of official Nexus 7 accessories from Google this time around.

Google investigating 'Package File Invalid' errors at Google Play

Google Play

Seeing Package File Invalid errors from Google Play? It's not just you

It seems that some users are seeing an error when trying to install or update applications from Google Play on their Androids. Instead of the expected behavior — tap a button and install or update an app — users are able to download the package but during install are fed a "Package File Invalid" error.

There are many user fixes floating around out there, ranging from clearing app data for Google Play to removing the proxy address from your APN (this worked for me) but none seem to be a universal fix.

We’ve received reports that some users are getting "Package File Invalid" while trying to download or update apps.

We’re currently investigating a permanent solution, and there are no workarounds at this time.

We’ll continue to update this page with developments, so check back soon.

Google has addressed the fact that this is an issue for some users, and is working on a fix. We imagine this has a bit of priority, so hopefully there is good news soon.

100 Xperia Zs used on walkway for fashion/tech project
Aug 13th 2013, 18:02, by Dima Aryeh

What do you get when you combine 100 Sony Xperia Z smartphones and a fashion video? Apparently, some crazy flashing lights and an interesting combination of 100 photos taken at once. Ryan Hopkinson created this project to utilizes a large spiral walkway with devices attached. The Xperia Z phones were programmed to take photos, flash LEDs and change screens colors on command.

During the digital light show, a male model walks the runway while layers of clothing are ripped away. The smartphones take photos synchronously, creating an interesting effect when combined. Though the video includes very little technology aside from that awesome spiral of phones, it’s still pretty cool to watch.

The making-of video is a little more in-depth, highlighting the programming and attachment of the phones. I think it’s pretty clever, even if it doesn’t really detail any solid reasons to buy a Sony Xperia Z. Watch the videos and tell us what you think!

Moto X sold on Play Store won't be Google Play edition, will keep custom software
Aug 13th 2013, 17:00, by Dima Aryeh

When the Moto X was announced, many people were incredibly disappointed. Most of that disappointment didn’t stem from hardware or features, but price. Charging a high-end price for a phone that’s not quite high-end did not seem right to many, and we understand. However, some held out hope that the Google Play edition of the device would be Moto X’s saving grace in the enthusiast sector.

Thinking about it, a Google Play edition of the Moto X makes very little sense. The device already runs a build of Android that’s fairly close to stock, so AOSP fans should be fairly happy with the stock ROM as it is. Plus, taking out its “always listening” features would be ridiculous, considering how much hardware they dedicated to it. The Moto X8 chip would be rendered useless.

Luckily, Guy Kawasaki has confirmed that the Moto X that will be sold on the Play Store won’t be a Google Play edition. Instead, Google will be selling the same device that’s going out to carriers, extra software features and all. While this is great news to us, the most important detail is still unknown, and that is the price. Not many will pay $600 for a Moto X, so they’ll need to price it very well.

If Motorola’s near-stock ROM isn’t good enough for some AOSP enthusiasts, that’s fine! It’s rumored that Motorola will be making the next Nexus phone, so you may get your AOSP Motorola needs fulfilled soon. We’ll see when Google announces the new Nexus phone, won’t we? Are you happy that Motorola will keep its software features on the Google Play Moto X? Or would you rather have real AOSP? Leave a comment!
