MiniSuit Keyboard Case for the Nexus 7 (2013)

MiniSuit Keyboard Case for the Nexus 7

The idea of a physical keyboard on a 7-inch tablet is a questionable one, but this case makes us consider the proposition more seriously

The Nexus 7 (and all 7-inch tablets, really) are generally better suited for on-screen keyboard input than their 10-inch counterparts, but what if you want to push the capabilities of your tablet more towards a laptop? We've seen wireless keyboards of all shapes and styles for many different devices, but ones that are made to fit a 7-inch tablet walk a very fine line of staying compact without compromising usability.

MiniSuit has had a keyboard folio-style case for the Nexus 7 (2012) on the market for some time now, and has updated the line for the 2013 revision of the tablet. It's a relatively compact, nice-looking and well-made case that also pulls double duty as a full-featured — but hardly full-sized — keyboard accessory. Hang with us after the break where we take a closer look at the MiniSuit Keyboard Case for the Nexus 7 (2013).

Hold the (rumored) Nexus 5 in your digital hands

Interesting find on Reddit’s r/Android for the weekend: user Annihilia built this 3D model based on all the rumors we’ve seen so far of the Nexus 5. It is so good, Google might as well as use it on their website if it’s accurate.

KitKat launching October 14th with an OIS-powered Nexus 5? [Rumor]

Nexus 5 extreme closeup

Now here are a couple of rumors I’d really like to see become a reality: AusDroid believes that Android 4.4 KitKat should be announced on October 14th based on a tip they’ve received (though they do suggest taking it with a grain of salt). Besides the date, the tipster also named a few features we might see with the new release:

  • Firmware availability to older phones

  • Fragmentation changes (screen resizing)

  • Miracast updates

  • New Gallery Visualisation

  • New APIs regarding animations

  • Change android default blue to other preset palette colours

  • New notification widgets

The Firmware availability point is one that really catches the eye: Google obviously wants as many devices (at least 4.x ones) to have all the latest goodies, a problem they’ve been working on for years. Have they finally found a decent solution which would make it easier for manufacturers to update ROMs to the latest version of Android?

The Nexus 5 should be unveiled alongside KitKat, and according to SmartFan should see the same Optical Image Stabilization as we’ve seen with the LG G2 (LG video below). A much better camera is something we’ve been expecting ever since SVP for Engineering Vic Gundotra said “Google was committed to making insanely great cameras for future Nexus devices” back in February.

Omate TrueSmart and Nissan Nismo Concept - Life beyond the Galaxy Gear
Sep 15th 2013, 16:00, by Kris Carlon

Finally we know that there is life beyond Galaxy Gear. Although presented with great fanfare and much disappointment, we already know of some other smartwatch models that could give the Samsung smartwatch a run for its money, at least as far as design, functionality and concept is concerned. The Omate TrueSmart and Nissan Nismo Concept smartwatches are just two examples of devices that outsmart, and out-cool, the Samsung offering.

From the Editor's Desk: A good problem to have

Phones

Well, here we go again. So many awesome Android phones, so little time. I'm once again left dumbfounded by the sheer number of great devices currently available. The HTC One. The Samsung Galaxy S4. The LG G2. The Moto X. Four phones, (finally) available on all four major U.S. carriers. Or go for the Nexus 4 for just $249 outright.

This is a really good problem to have, and the year's not even done yet. Figure we'll see a new Nexus in the next month or two. And it wouldn't surprise me to see another fairly major release on Verizon — Motorola or HTC would be my guess.

You almost can't go wrong at this point. Each phone is different, for sure, but I wouldn't steer anyone away from any of them.

A few other thoughts on the week that was ...

TalkAndroid_Weekly_Recap

We had another busy week at TalkAndroid so here’s a recap of all the top stories. The leaks and rumors regarding the Nexus 5 is in full swing. We should get our hands on it next month along with Android 4.4 Kit Kat. Apple started a new trend in offering a spec that doesn’t matter, and Samsung decided to match them. More importantly, Samsung’s octa-core will be a true 8 core very soon!! The HTC Max is going to be the next phone with a fingerprint scanner, but will anyone buy it? It’s time to get caught up and get ready for another exciting week.
