HTC One in 'Glamour Red' now available in the UK through Phones4U
Jul 14th 2013, 16:45, by David Gonzales

HTC One Glamour Red
The phone that Tony Stark would use — that is, the red-colored version of the HTC One — is now available online in the UK exclusively through Phones4U. This is in line with what was said in a report published about a week ago, where we showed you the first thorough hands-on video of that particular handset.

In our previous report, we mentioned that the HTC One would be made available in ‘glamour red’ through Phones4U in mid-July, and now here we are. Currently, the Phones4U web site has an online listing for the HTC One Red that allows customers to buy the phone with any one of a number of different deals. These deals have the phone tied to carrier contracts from the likes of EE, T-Mobile, and Vodafone, and they range from as low as £31.00 per month to as high as £47.00.

The HTC One Red has the exact same everything as the original, except for the color, of course. It still sports a sleek metallic case, which totally gives off an Iron Man vibe — and that’s pretty cool. It looks good enough in pictures, but as with most things, it’s bound to look a bit different in real life. Check out the hands-on review of the HTC One Red which we posted about previously right here.

And if you want to buy the HTC One Red through Phones4U in the UK, then simply make your way to the source link below and check out your options.

Likely LG G2-related "To Me, You Are Perfect" promo contest has a top prize valued at $5,000
Jul 14th 2013, 16:16, by Chris Smith

LG G2 Teaser: "To me, you are perfect"

LG is apparently ready to kick off a promo/contest that's likely related to the upcoming LG G2, a next-gen flagship Android smartphone expected to be unveiled on August 7.

Called "To Me, You Are Perfect," the campaign encourages users to send photo or video messages to their loved ones using "one or more of LG's online channels."

During a recent video teaser the company has posted on YouTube for its New York-based event, LG insisted on the same particular message: "To me, you are perfect. From G…" As you can see, a certain "G" signed that note.

The press release embedded below is dated July 15, so that mean the campaign must start only tomorrow, and the promotion will end on August 6.

Those interested in getting out their messages to loved ones can use the following LG channels to do so:

  • LG Mobile's microsite: www.LGMobile.com
  • Facebook page: www.facebook.com/LGMobile
  • YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/LGMobile.

Selected clips will be posted on the company's "multiple online channels," and, most interestingly, they will be aired on outdoor billboards placed in Times Square (New York) and Piccadilly Circus (London).

The winner with the most likes and views will get a prize worth $5,000, while 40 random participants will get "LG G Series smartphones," and 500 others will get LG Pocket Photo printers. We would assume the LG G2 will be included in that grand prize, but also awarded to 40 lucky contestants.

“To Me, You Are Perfect” Online Campaign Promotes Personal

Messages on Billboards in Times Square and Piccadilly Circus

SEOUL, July 15, 2013 – Leading up to its new product announcement on August 7, LG Electronics (LG) today kicks off an online campaign where consumers can send messages to loved ones under the theme “To Me, You Are Perfect.” The campaign was developed to show LG customers what an important role they have played in inspiring innovation at LG. Anyone can participate by simply posting a photograph or video message to a loved one on one or more of LG’s online channels, including LG Mobile’s microsite (www.LGMobile.com), Facebook page (www.facebook.com/LGMobile) or YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/LGMobile).

As part of the campaign, video clips will be selected and posted on LG’s multiple online channels and shown on the company’s outdoor billboards in New York City’s Times Square and London’s Piccadilly Circus. The winner with the most likes and views will receive a gift valued at USD 5,000. Forty randomly selected participants will receive LG G Series smartphones and 500 more will receive LG Pocket Photo printers. The campaign concludes on August 6.

“This event is about thanking our customers and fans and showing our appreciation to everyone who exemplifies our Life’s Good philosophy,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We wanted to demonstrate how important our customers’ opinions are to us when we design new products at LG. To us, our customers are perfect, especially when it comes to providing us with the inspiration to create and innovate.”

Leaked video of Moto X reveals August rollout in Canada
Jul 14th 2013, 15:21, by Sterling Keys

Leaked photos and videos aren’t that uncommon in the day and age where everything can be uploaded online in almost an instant. The main thing we’ve been concerned about has been more so the quality of the photos and videos, which when bad, almost adds a mystique around the content (despite being mostly taken by the same camera that we caught the Bigfoot footage on…). Thankfully, this time around we’ve got a highly polished production video of the Moto X from Rogers and it confirms a few things that we were wondering about. We just hope that some poor sap from Rogers isn’t going to lose their job to this being leaked way ahead of any official announcement.

AA Weekly: top Android news of the week, July 14, 2013
Jul 14th 2013, 15:37, by Bogdan Petrovan

aaweekly

This week, we almost overdosed on Moto X leaks, a solid rumor about the Nexus 5 made the rounds, two core Google apps were updated, the latest Android security scare fizzled out, the LG G2 was in the spotlight, and T-Mo launched its update club.

The Moto X hype train chugs along

Even if you wanted to, you probably couldn't avoid reading about the Moto X this week. It started in force with reports about the phone's Clear Pixel camera, which we think is marketing speak for a RGBW sensor. The novel type of sensor should enable the Moto X to take great pics even in low-light conditions.

Then, a variety of leaked images emerged, culminating in a veritable photo shoot of Eric Schmidt just casually using his white Moto X like he was in a secret Google lab and not at a public event with photographers all around.

Our Nate Swanner reported on info he got from people who actually used the Moto X; his conclusion: the user experience is great, and that matters more than having the latest specifications.

The G2 looks sexy with buttons on the back

We've heard that the successor to the Optimus G would be sporting a unique design, but this week we finally got a clear peek at the G2. The most striking feature of the LG G2 is the absence of buttons on the front and sides of the device. LG opted to place the volume rocker and the power button on the back of the phone, under the camera module. On the front, the G2 is almost all-screen, with a very thin bezel and just LG's logo to break the monotony.

The G2 is just as attractive in the hardware department – one of the first devices powered by the crazy fast Snapdragon 800 processor, LG's new smartphone could also be the first to come with 3GB of RAM. A relatively large battery and an OIS camera complete the portrait of a very exciting device.

Nexus 5 rumored to be the sibling of the G2

It's still early in the game, but it looks that the next Nexus smartphone will be an LG job, just like the Nexus 4. At least that's what a recent report from the Korean media claims. LG is allegedly developing the G2 and the Nexus 5 in parallel, and the two smartphones will share most of the specifications.

The rumor says we should expect the next Nexus in October, with Android 5 pegged to make its entrance at the same point. Note that this is just speculation for now, but a number of other rumors seem to support it.

Google Maps update rolls out. Hangouts gets a voice

Two important Google apps were updated in the last week. The Google Maps app received the big update that was first teased at Google I/O, which brings a completely redesigned user interface and a bunch of new features. There was a bit of a rumpus over the conspicuous absence of offline maps functionality, but, as it turned out, the feature was only an "OK maps" away.

Voice calling is back in Hangouts, after a few weeks of absence. When Google updated Talk to Hangouts many were shocked to discover that phone calling was removed from Gmail and the Chrome app. Well, put down your pitchforks, it's back.

The huge security bug that wasn't

The Android blogosphere is periodically swept by security scares, and the latest vulnerability supposedly makes 99% of Android devices susceptible to hacking. The problem (for scaremongers) is that the vulnerability doesn't affect the vast majority of users who only download apps from the Play Store.

Nevertheless, Google promptly released a patch for the vulnerability, which was then incorporated in the latest CyanogenMod. Now, if only manufacturers would move that fast.

Jump from device to device with T-Mobile

T-Mo continues its quest to shake up the American wireless market, and its latest offering is the most exciting yet. Announced on Thursday, Jump! is basically an upgrade club – pay a $10 monthly fee and you get to update your device every six months instead of having to wait two years like you would on other carriers. For that price, you also get an insurance plan, so, depending on how obsessed you are with new devices, Jump! may well be your dream come true.

Nokia Boss Explains Why They Didn't Go With Android
Jul 14th 2013, 14:39, by Anthony Muzonzini

Nokia Boss Stephen Elop has explained the business analysis that Nokia did back in 2010 which would explain why they chose to go with Windows instead of Android. It seems as if the reason why they didn't end up moving forward with the Android platform, when it started killing off its Symbian OS, did end up manifesting itself. The main fear that Nokia had was that one company will end up dominating the Android landscape and this has happened as Samsung is the company basically making any money off Android smartphones.

Android World Update # HTC Butterfly S image leaks with dual-SIM slots

HTC Butterfly S image leaks with dual-SIM slots
Jul 14th 2013, 12:51, by Robert Nelson

It wasn’t all that long back when we got the first official look at the HTC Butterfly S, however as of today it is looking like there is a dual-SIM model that has yet to be announced by HTC. Details of this handset recently appeared on Twitter coming by way of the @leakschina account which is showing the handset from all sides.

BPBHNKxCAAEV6_7.jpg-large

When announced the HTC Butterfly S was shown in three colors — white, silver and red. This image leak introduces another color — black with red trim. The interesting part here, if this image wasn’t said to be of the dual-SIM variety, we would think this would be the model bound for Verizon Wireless.

The key here seems to be the dual-SIM support, which really just means the handset is capable of running two active SIM cards. You could have one for work and one for personal, which means two accounts and two numbers but only one phone to maintain and keep charged.

Otherwise, the specs that came along with this image likely sound familiar to those who remember the single-SIM Butterfly S announcement. Those include a 5-inch 1080p display along with a 1.9GHz Snapdragon 600 processor and 2GB of RAM. The handset is also expected to arrive running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and with an Ultrapixel camera on the back.

Basically, this handset appears to be just what would be expected — a device with the same specs as the regular Butterfly S but with one exception — that second SIM card slot. While we are expecting the US market to eventually get a version of the Butterfly S, it will most likely be of the single-SIM variety.

We present to you the Motorola Moto X. A leaked Rogers Moto X tech demo video gives us an official overview of the phone along with confirmation that it will launch as a Rogers exclusive in Canada this August in both black and white. The handset features shown off in the video include voice only Google Now activation, active updates which briefly displays notifications on the screen rather than flashing an LED, double wrist twist gesture to open the camera, snap pictures by pressing anywhere in the screen or snap multiple shots by pressing and holding.

Just in case the video gets pulled, you’ve captured about a dozen still frames in the gallery below. What’s your take on the new Motorola Moto features shown off in the video? Have Google and Motorola succeeded in making the smartphone even smarter?
