Drippler celebrates 200 million 'drips' with a v2.0 Android app release
Aug 13th 2013, 17:42, by Robert Nelson

Drippler originally launched for Android back in May 2012 and it looks like the team is currently celebrating a new milestone — they have served up more than 200 million drips, which includes a mix of tips, features, updates, apps and accessory discoveries. Perhaps more important for fans of the service, Drippler has launched v2.0 of the app and it brings a new design along with proper support for tablets.

The folks at Drippler have said this update comes following the massive growth of Android tablet sales. Basically, it seems they would have been cutting off quite a large potential user base had they remained without tablet support. Aside from the tablet support, this update also touts improved personalization, drip categories, search, favorites and more.

Simply put, this latest update is a nice improvement over the earlier version of the app. Not only is there additional device support and a new look and feel — but there were the new features such as search added. For those who may not have used Dripper in the past, this is an app that provides you with bits of information regarding Android. There is a nice mix of information available, but perhaps more important is how quick and easy to set up for the first time.

Plus, aside from the quick initial setup, the app is also easy to use. Launching the app takes you to the My Drips section, which serves up all the content. This is a single stream where you can just scroll down. Tapping on a story will open the more detail and from here you can also scroll left and right for more content. You can also filter the content down by News & Tips, Apps and Games.

That said, the latest version of Drippler can be found in the Google Play Store.

LG G2 rear buttons star in new short feature video
Aug 13th 2013, 17:17, by Cory Gunther

Lately we’ve been seeing quad-core processors and 1080p displays take the top spot for features worth highlighting on smartphones, but LG has a different plan. They decided the grass was greener on the other side, and have moved the volume and power button to the rear of their recently announced LG G2 smartphone. And now today we have quite the dramatic short feature film starring exactly that.

Screen Shot 2013-08-13 at 9.54.28 AM

Last week LG announced the all-new G2 smartphone with some pretty stunning features. It will be the first smartphone to market with the world’s fastest 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, it has a 13 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, the first 13 megapixel sensor on a smartphone with such a feature. Not to mention the world’s thinnest and brightest 1080p display coming in at full HD resolution.

However, all those impressive things weren’t the star of the show during the announcement, or this new video. Instead the buttons on the side are all on the back, and LG wants you to know it. They get all dramatic in what is being called the LG G2 “Rear Key Movie” and you can check it out below.

I’m not sure if I just watched an Audi commercial, or if this is the best thing to happen to smartphones for girls to take selfies instead of mirror pics in the women’s restroom. All jokes aside, we understand the move, and the appeal, and it sort of makes sense for the natural placement of the index finger. I know that’s where my finger is while holding the phone and texting, and I have a similar grip while talking on the phone. My index finger will always be right there, close to the buttons.

In practice we enjoyed the placement with our limited LG G2 hands-on last week, but will have to test it out fully before we make up our minds. What did you think of the dramatic yet inspirational video? Or the awesome screenshot I grabbed for the image above? Epic right! Do you buy the rear button move? Let us know below.

SYNC by 50 on-ear wireless headphones arrive with Bluetooth 4.0 aptX
Aug 13th 2013, 16:38, by Robert Nelson

SMS Audio seems to have been rather busy this month. We have already seen the Street by 50 over-the-ear collection refreshed with active noise control and the introduction of the SYNC by 50 portable Bluetooth speaker. And as of today SMS Audio has rolled out a new set of SYNC by 50 on-ear headphones with Bluetooth 4.0 aptX technology.

These are wireless headphones that feature 40mm drivers and SMS Audio has them available for pre-order as of today. With that in mind, the pre-orders are expected to begin shipping on August 22nd and they are priced at $230. They headphones are available in black and silver and bring features to include folding hinges and soft leather memory foam.

There is also passive noise cancellation along with onboard controls to play and pause, skip forward and back and also adjust the volume. Aside from the controls on the headphones themselves, there is also a detachable cable with 3-click in-line microphone for voice calling. But aside from simply using this cable for voice calls, it will also come in handy for times when the headphones run out of battery power.

Speaking of the battery, SMS Audio has said the SYNC by 50 on-ear headphones should be able to provide up to 12 hours of listening time. The headphones are also rechargeable by way of an included microUSB cable. Otherwise, similar to the other SMS Audio products, these headphones ship with a few goodies to help prolong the lifespan. Those making a purchase can expect to find a cleaning cloth and hard shell carrying case in the box.
