Kindle Fire HD price drop hints of new tablets on the way
Aug 8th 2013, 18:52, by Cory Gunther

The rumors are starting to heat back up regarding Amazon and their Kindle Fire tablet lineup. We’ve been hearing little bits of information about a possible refresh to their Kindle Fire HD lineup, and some new price cuts to existing models are fueling that fire even more. With a new Nexus 7 here, Amazon is surely coming up with something quick.

Late last month some rumors surfaced claiming Amazon was working on some newer, even higher resolution tablets than what they have now, and the details even claimed Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 quad-core would be powering the devices. That sure would beat out Google’s Nexus 7 in the spec battle, but can they still compete on price is the question.

After those initial reports we started to get excited about Amazon’s next slate, but yesterday news surfaced of something else. In order to better compete in the price battle, Amazon could be moving to MediaTek processors for the Kindle Fire HD lineup refresh. The report from DigiTimes even claims the Fire could use their new 8-core chip.

We’re not exactly sure what Amazon has planned for their new tablet, but the current gen was revealed last year in September, so we could see the same announcement arrive next month. If that’s true, the $40 price cut to the existing $199 model that arrived earlier this week sure makes sense. If all goes as expected Amazon should be announcing a new slew of tablets in late September or early October just in time for the holiday season. There’s also talk of an Amazon smartphone, so we’ll keep our eyes open.

RunKeeper for Android update brings more interactive friends tab
Aug 8th 2013, 18:20, by Robert Nelson

RunKeeper for Android v3.7 arrived in beta form earlier in the week and as of today, that update is now ready for primetime. Simply put, RunKeeper v3.7 has landed in the Play Store. The changelog isn’t particularity long for this update, however it does bring a new and improved Friends tab. Basically, the folks at RunKeeper have made the Friends tab more interactive.

According to the details coming from the Play Store listing, this new Friends tab has the following; The ability to view your friends activities and progress, the ability to like and comment on your friends activity and the ability to view the activity routes (maps), photos and stats of your friends.

As mentioned, this update basically made the Friends tab more interactive. The Friends tab was available in earlier builds of the app, but as you will see in the above screenshots, the new and improved offers quite a bit more. The before is on the left and the after is on the right. The earlier version of the Friends tab was a simple list and allowed you to view an overall ranking and the number of activities.

For some that was good enough to keep them motivated, but the only real interaction in the past was to “tell” your friends to go for a run, walk or bike ride. Or in other words, you could nudge the friends that hadn’t exercised recently.

This update allows you to tap to like the activity and also tap to comment on the activity. There are also more details provided in terms of the updates. For example, you can now see any records your friends may have such as distance and calories burned. It also shows the the mileage for that particular workout and tells you how it compares to other activities.

Bottom line here, if you are a RunKeeper user and like to encourage (and get encouragement) from others — this latest Android app update should be along the lines of what you may have been looking for. As for this RunKeeper user, it gives me one less reason to visit the website.

Gameloft's NFL Pro 2014 becomes an iOS exclusive, shuns Android
Aug 8th 2013, 18:06, by Cory Gunther

Yesterday the folks from Gameloft releases a large update to their popular and free official NFL simulation game for mobile devices. NFL Pro 2013 was one of my favorite NFL games for Android. A quick look on the Play Store shows I’m not alone, with over 1 million downloads on Android. However, the update yesterday announcing the all new NFL Pro 2014 only arrived for iOS.

A quick search in the Play Store shows many users have been searching for NFL Pro 2014, since Google’s Play Store suggests popular searches, but sadly the game isn’t there. We’re stuck with NFL Pro 2013 from last year and it doesn’t sound like we’ll ever get the new game.

Gameloft updated the game and added 2014 to the name. This adds brand new improved graphics, over 200 different customizable plays, and all the latest changes and player moves. Sadly there’s no new rookies in the game, but everything else has been updated for the new season this year. The game is as realistic as it gets, has awesome gameplay and decent graphics, and no you can’t have it if you’re on Android.

For whatever reason Gameloft has completely shunned Android here. With over 1 million downloads you’d think they’d also release it for Android, but after reaching out to a PR rep we can confirm this is only for iOS. At least for now. Gameloft has “no plans” to update or release NFL Pro 2014 for Android. Sigh!

We just can’t win. Gameloft last year promised simultaneous releases on both major platforms, and have slowly been getting better on that front. Many of their recent games like Iron Man 3 and more are available on both iOS and Android, but this isn’t one of them. For whatever reason (they couldn’t give one) Android has been put in the corner, and the million+ players from last year won’t get to enjoy the latest game.

I’m trying to be nice here, Gameloft, but this is getting really old. Add this to the fact that Asphalt 8 was supposed to arrive today, and was delayed, gamers aren’t too happy right about now. We absolutely love your games, but what gives?
