You might remember that Asus found itself in an embarrassing situation last year, when it was forced to issue GPS extension kits to all owners of the Transformer Prime tablet, due to faulty GPS components.

Now a new Asus-made tablet is in the spotlight for GPS-related reasons – the Nexus 7 (2013). According to numerous users of the device, the tablet is having problems securing or maintaining a GPS connection, making navigation with the device a hassle.

On various user forums, such as Reddit, XDA, or Google's own Product Forums, people have been complaining that the Nexus 7 (2013) loses GPS connection and fails to lock in again, after working for a few minutes in the beginning.

Not all users have reported the same symptoms – for some, the Nexus 7 (2013) works fine for up to half an hours before losing connection, while for others, it only takes a few minutes for the GPS icon to start blinking.

Similarly, the solutions that some offered are not working for all users. While some can temporarily solve the problem with a reboot, others tried resetting the new Nexus 7 to factory settings or uninstalling updates. Currently, there is no solution that works in every case.

A Google product manager replied to disgruntled Nexus 7 (2013) owners on Google's support forums, stating that the company is looking into the issue.

This is clearly a widespread issue, but we hope it doesn't pertain to a hardware deficiency, which would be the worst case scenario for all parties involved. In case it's just a bug, a software update should clear the issue in a painless way.

Nexus 7 (2013) owners, have you tried out the navigation functions of your device? Have you encountered any issue with the GPS on your new Nexus 7 (2013)?

Have you had any problems with the GPS functionality on your Nexus 7 (2013)?
