YouTube's mobile apps will get a new feature in November that will certainly be appreciated by users, and that's a true offline viewing mode.
In a short post on the official YouTube partners and creators blog, Google announced that offline viewing mode will arrive next month to its YouTube mobile apps:
This upcoming feature will allow people to add videos to their device to watch for a short period when an Internet connection is unavailable. So your fans' ability to enjoy your videos no longer has to be interrupted by something as commonplace as a morning commute.
An actual date for the update has not been mentioned, so we'll have to wait a few more weeks to see exactly how this feature will work.
Furthermore, it's not clear what "short period" means at this time, which is certainly a very important detail for such a feature – but we're certainly tell you more details about it in the feature.
Naturally, hardcore YouTube users that aren't happy with waiting, or who want to be able to actually download YouTube videos for offline viewing on their mobile devices will have to keep doing what they've done so far: find other ways to download YouTube videos and then move them to their mobile devices. We’ll note that we're not encouraging you to do so, and that you’re the only person responsible for whatever you download from the web to your devices.
