Lenovo to begin Taking pre-orders in China for their New Line of Smart TVs

Posted: 07 Apr 2012 04:46 PM PDT

Lenovo has launched a Chinese website detailing their plans to begin taking pre-orders for their new smart TV product. Unfortunately this is only a test for China because Lenovo doesn’t have high expectations for their TVs just yet. Lenovo wants to test the market to see if the demand is there but I’m sure that they will see that in fact there is a demand, the question is will it be for their brand. Samsung has already taken the dive into the market and it was their commercial alone that made me go out and check out their new TV. It’s awesome, but that is so off track of what we were talking about. One of Lenovo’s TVs being listed is the 42-inch K71 which will retail for 6499 yuan ($1,029 U.S.) and is expected to go on sale by the end of the month.

All four models of the TVs are expected to run Android 4.0, have voice controls, run a 1.5 dual core processor, and have LCD screens in sizes of 42-inch and 55-inch. Three of the TVs are also to include flicker-free 3D capabilities. It should make some of your favorite Android games jump out at you. Pre-orders don’t begin until Tuesday, April 10th , which is only three days away.

The problem is, is that Samsung already has their hands deep in this market and they might be tough to compete against being as successful as they are. What do you think? Does Lenovo have a fighting chance in the smart TV arena? Let us know in the comments section below.

Medfield-Powered Lenovo K800 Benchmark Scores Show Promise

Posted: 07 Apr 2012 01:45 PM PDT

Intel’s Medfield chipset promises to bring performance and improved power consumption to Ice Cream Sandwich-powered devices. Launch partner Lenovo is promising to release its 1.6GHz Atom Z2460-powered K800 smartphone in China in two months. Until then, we won’t really know if Medfield will live up to its potential, but Engadget managed to score some early benchmarks for a prototype K800 running Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread.

How close these benchmarks are to the final version has yet to be seen, so take these numbers for what they are. The graphics performance was lacking a bit, but the overall scores were similar to those of the Samsung Galaxy Note, which runs a 1.4GHz dual-core Exynos processor. Not too shabby. Better yet, the K800 performed very well in the Javascript test, beating the Galaxy Note as well as the HTC One X and One S.

Now we just have to see how well the battery holds up. Check out the full benchmarks after the break.

K800 HTC One S HTC One X Galaxy Note(int’l)

HTC no longer will bundle Beats headphones with future smartphones

Posted: 07 Apr 2012 11:25 AM PDT

In an attempt to separate itself from the many Android manufacturers, HTC’s latest partnership with Beats Electronics has developed the Beats Audio software making the music-listening experience much more enjoyable and customizable for a small amount of their current Android users. To help create awareness, HTC had decided to bundle Beats headphones with the purchase of certain HTC Android phones, such as the HTC Rezound. Now HTC’s Martin Fichter has stated to CNET that “an accessory like the headphone doesn’t factor in when someone is buying a smartphone.  If they want a Beats headphone, they’ll buy it directly.” In other words, for the time being HTC is no longer planning on providing Dr. Dre earmuffs with future Android offerings. This move will indeed be saving the company heaps of money and let’s face it, the majority of serious music listeners will most likely have already purchased some fancy cans of their own. Let’s not forget that HTC will still continue to support Beats Audio technology and incorporate it in their future handsets. Anyone bummed about this news? Will this really keep some of you from buying awesome phones like the Evo 4G LTE? Let your thoughts be heard in the comments below.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Delayed Until June To Get Quad-Core Exynos Processor?

Posted: 07 Apr 2012 12:13 AM PDT

A Korean newspaper claims that Samsung is delaying the launch of the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet to June so it can bump up its processor to a quad-core Exynos 4412. This is welcome news if it holds true since the Note 10.1 was announced at Mobile World Congress with a dual-core 1.4GHz processor, which seems like yesterday’s news now that quad-core is the new kid in town. There is currently no device that is using the Exynos 4412, but the Samsung Galaxy III is rumored to be the first. If the Note 10.1 will be getting it as well, Samsung could be timing the releases of both devices together.

Of course, with no official release date from Samsung, can we really call this a delay? In any case, if this is true, this is the second delay of a Samsung tablet this month with the Galaxy Tab 2 being pushed until the end of April for more ICS testing and tweaks.

I know everyone hates delays, but to be honest, I applaud Samsung for making sure their products are not only fully tested and working well before release, but also that the specs are kept up to date and competitive. Now let’s just hope the rumors are true since I could sure use a 10.1-inch, quad-core, S Pen enabled Galaxy Note.

HTC’s 2012 Q1 Earnings Are Out and They Aren’t What HTC Wanted

Posted: 06 Apr 2012 07:22 PM PDT

Taiwanese manufacturer HTC released their  unaudited earnings for the Q1 of 2012. HTC earned a total revenue of NT$67,790 million, which is a decrease on their year-on-year of 34.92%. January 2012 was a bad month for HTC compared to January 2011. They had a 52.55% decrease from year-on-year(YoY). Things are looking up for HTC though. Even though they reported loses in February and March. The decline is slowing and looks to be turning around for HTC. The YoY for February was just under -37% and the YoY for March was just under -17%. It does look as if HTC is righting their ship and with the new HTC One line releasing, things can only get better from here. What do you think? Can HTC turn it around and post some earnings this year? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

From the ones who brought gamers everywhere hits like Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto, popular game developer Rockstar Games aims to bring the familiar hit Max Payne to Android users everywhere with Max Payne Mobile. Experience the classic PC Max Payne that has been optimized for Android and iOS devices. The game is said to support HD graphics, high resolution textures, Social Club connectivity and user-customizable controls. Rockstar Games has stated that they will soon release a list of compatible Android phones ready for their April 26 release. Seeing as how Grand Theft Auto III for Android is currently $4.99 in the Play Store, we can assume that Max Payne Mobile will follow suit. Whether you feel the price, if any, will be worth it or not, one has to applaud the level of quality and standard that Android gaming and development has acquired within the last year.

LG developing a “thinking smartphone” for their future Android offerings

Posted: 06 Apr 2012 06:41 PM PDT

Over the last year or so, LG has really made some strides in their manufacturing and development of Android. You won’t have to look very hard to find a LG Android phone with fairly decent specs and hardware. However in this industry, it’s important to incorporate features and functions that will help separate oneself from the pack. HTC has their Sense UI and Beats Audio, Apple has Siri and a few Android rip-off features and now, LG will present a “thinking smartphone”. Managing Director of LG Mobile Communications Kwon Bong-suk has recently announced the company’s plan to bring personalized intelligence into their future Android offerings. An example used describes a scenario where you have set your alarm for 6 a.m. While you sleep, the phone uses GPS to keep track of road conditions and decides that because of an unusual amount of traffic on that day, it will have the alarm go off at 5:30 instead, allowing you to make it to your destination on time. Where was this phone during my college years?! There are no more details at this time as to when we can expect to start seeing this exciting new feature. Stay tuned to Talk Android as we continue to provide all the latest Android news and updates.
