Google revamping Play Store for Jelly Bean?

Google I/O is set to take off this week, and we’re slowly learning what Google may have in store for the next version of Android. Aside from a Nexus Tablet certain to make its debut at the show, the operating system the tablet will run on, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, will also feature some new enhancement for the Android faithful. A rumor out this morning suggests that Google may have revamped the Google Play Store for Android, with a redesigned UI more akin to that of the desktop Play Store.

Jelly Bean Play Store

A Google+ post by Loranz Yousif (via HD Blog) give us a first glimpse at what a redesigned Play Store might look like. Across the top of the home screen is a rolling bar of popular applications, and a scrollable list of “What’s Hot” applications are found at the bottom. If this sounds familiar, it should. This is almost exactly what the Android Market looked like before the current version (see gallery at the end of this post).

We must point out that it’s fairly easy to fake images, and the reported app store redesign may in fact be fake as well. It doesn’t really make sense that Google would shy away from the redesign effort it rolled out with the Google Play rebrand and go back to a style it has already moved away from. Of course, anything’s possible, and we’re just a few short days away from the Jelly Bean unveil.

What do you think of the reported new look of the Play Store? Is this the final look of the Play Store for Android 4.1, or will we see something totally different (or, no change) this week at I/O?

The folks over at Gizmodo Australia were sent a training document reportedly being sent around to third-party retailers ahead of the Nexus 7 launch. Of course, we recognize that this may indeed be fake, but a leak this close to the unveil leads us to believe it very well may prove true.

The leaked document confirms basically all previous specs we told you about, with a 1.3 GHz Tegra 3 processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB of storage, and a super-cheap $199 price tag. A version with 16GB of storage will be available for $249. The Nexus 7 will also launch with the next version of Android, Jelly Bean (4.1). Completing out the spec sheet are a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera, NFC, and a 7″ IPS display with a 178 degree viewing angle and 1,280 by 800 resolution. And yes, it’ll be made by ASUS.

So what does the Nexus 7 tablet look like, you may ask? Well, anyone hoping for that two or three-toned render from a few weeks back will be sorely disappointed. Google’s Nexus slate will differentiate itself from the sea of black slates only by way of an engraved Nexus logo on the backside of the device.

Now that you’ve seen the possible final render of the Nexus 7, including the final spec sheet for the device, do you still plan on picking up the Nexus 7 when it makes its retail debut next month?
