T-Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus Receiving ICS Via Kies On August 14th

Posted: 13 Aug 2012 03:24 PM PDT

Starting August 14th, the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus will have an optional upgrade to Android 4.0.5 Ice Cream Sandwich. I say optional because the update will be through Samsung Kies and not via an OTA update. The update will bring the software to T869UVLG7 can only be completed by tethering the tablet to the computer via USB and using Samsung Kies to upload the new software to the tablet.

Head over to the source link for further instructions once the update becomes available!

Google set to acquire Frommer’s Travel Brand

Posted: 13 Aug 2012 02:47 PM PDT

It’s clear that Google intends to bolster its local reviews in any way they can. They proved that with the purchase of the restaurant rating giant Zagat late last year. Now Google is all set to acquire Frommer’s Travel Brand, one of the bestselling travel guides in America. Frommer’s also includes over 350 guidebooks across 14 series, as well as other media including the award winning Frommers.com website which covers over 3,500 destinations. Needless to say, Frommer’s is a huge acquisition for Google as it’s an opportunity to broaden its consumer offerings outside of restaurant reviews and provide information about hotels and certain destinations.

The big question is whether Google intends to change things, either the Frommer’s guidebooks will continue to be published in print or whether they will eventually migrate entirely to online. Or perhaps they may liquidate it into Zagat or maybe even into Google Maps.

Either way, I’m sure Google will find a perfect way to implement this acquisition. I just can’t wait for this to come to Google Maps on my Android device. Any of you guys excited about this recent purchase by Google?

Featured Play Store Review: 3D Mini Golf Masters [Hands on Video]

Posted: 13 Aug 2012 10:35 AM PDT

The other night I started playing 3D Mini Golf Masters and I couldn’t put it down. Created by DMW Media, 3D Mini Golf Masters is a miniature golf game where the courses are in the sky so the views are stunning and the 3D effects are really cool.

Each course features challenging obstacles, slopes, turns, ramps, and beautiful wooden bridges. Trust me, this isn’t your local putt putt, these courses get hard pretty quickly. Thankfully the controls are easy in that you only need to worry about the direction and speed of your shots.

As far as scoring, it’s not all about how many shots it takes till you drop it in the hole. Well in a sense it is, but your scoring is based on the “stars” formula that you will find in games like Angry Birds and Cut the Rope. After you score, you will be given one, two, or three stars. You will be allowed to move on to the next hole with as little as one star, but you won’t feel satisfied unless you get all three stars.

3D Mini Golf Masters is Free and you will get one course called Bay View with nine holes. If you get as addicted as I did, you can purchase 7 more courses for just .99 cents (63 holes in all). 3D Mini Golf Masters is the perfect game for the casual gamer as you can quickly play a hole or two while waiting for an appointment or whenever you have a few minutes to kill. Check out my hands on video and hit one of the download links below to get started. BTW it looks great on the Nexus 7 as well.

U.S owners of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi receiving Ice Cream Sandwich update now

Posted: 13 Aug 2012 10:04 AM PDT

It has been a long wait, but it looks like Samsung finally came through with the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi-only version for U.S. owners. This is the same update that hit Europe a couple of weeks ago and it brings you to version IMM76D and it’s Android version 4.0.4.

Right now you can download it through the Samsung Kies sfotware, but it’s expected to be available as over-the-air update soon. If you don’t want to deal with Kies, just hit settings/about tablet/software update periodically on your tab to see if it’s ready for you to download.

Update to enable global roaming going out to HTC Rezound devices

Posted: 13 Aug 2012 10:01 AM PDT

Owner's of an HTC Rezound smartphone on the Verizon network have been patiently waiting for an update to their devices that would enable global roaming. Based on reports that came in over the weekend, it looks like their patience may finally be paid off. Users have reported a 103MB update for the HTC Rezound started rolling out to their devices. This comes a couple weeks after Verizon pushed out the ICS update for the devices.

The update keeps the Android version at 4.0.3, but increments the software up to 4.0.3.605.1. Global roaming functionality appears to be active after the update. It is not clear what else may have changed as Verizon has not released any official information.

Let us know if you have received the update on your HTC Rezound and if you have noticed any other changes.
