Motorola announces Android powered desktop in China

Posted: 14 Sep 2012 03:16 PM PDT

Motorola loves to come out with interesting Android powered devices, and this time they launched an Android based desktop known as Motorola HMC3260., but in China. It’s an home entertainment computer featuring 18.5-inch LED touchscreen and it can run all the Android apps and games, you can watch movies and shows on it, and can browse the web as well.

Also, Motorola teamed up with Cloud-service provider WASU to provide the amazing service to the customers. Here is a little glimpse of the specs:

  • Freescale i.MX53 ARM Cortex A8 1GHz
  • Memory: 1 GB DDR RAM, 4 GB NAND flash memory.
  • 18.5-inch LED display (1366×768 @ 60Hz, 16:9 widescreen)
  • Android 2.3.4 operating system, customized Android Launcher with rich desktop experience
  • TV and video client and integration

At the moment, no words on price and release date, and we also don’t no whether this device will make it to States or not. It’s running on Gingerbread, so don’t expect the latest features of Android in it, though it’s a start of a new trend by Motorola, and now I would like to see the outcome of it as well.

Flop or a hit? Don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comment box below about it.

Galaxy Note II reported to arrive at AT&T on October 21

Posted: 14 Sep 2012 01:14 PM PDT

The Samsung Galaxy Note II will be arriving at AT&T on October 21, according to a trusted BGR source.  Matching up with previous rumors and expectations, it’s likely this will be the same time frame that other carriers get the phone/tablet.  Considering just about every major provider has been tied to the device, it makes sense that Samsung will blanket the U.S. at the same time.  You’d almost have to do that if you want 20 million sales, right?

NVIDIA TegraZone app crosses 5 million mark

Posted: 14 Sep 2012 01:04 PM PDT

Congratulations to the NVIDIA Tegra team for surpassing the 5 million install mark! We just received word that the official app for dedicated Tegra 2 and Tegra 3 games, TegraZone, has reached the monument threshold. As many of you know, this one-stop-shop is the best way to discover new games based on the processing power of the dual-core and quad-core CPU.

If you own an Android handset or tablet with either processor and have not installed the TegraZone app then you’ve done a disservice to your device.  Go download it right now and then stand in the corner for fifteen minutes and think about your choices.

Five for Friday: Android apps for buying and selling your stuff

Posted: 14 Sep 2012 12:31 PM PDT

Over the past few months we have helped you with apps that make it easy to save a buck or two and manage your finances.  Thanks to AndroidGuys, you’re getting your life back in order and on the path to financial freedom.  Right?  So now you’ve saved a bunch of money and are looking to buy a few things for around the house.   Or maybe you still have some scrimping left to do and want to pawn your stuff.  Either way, we’ve got your back today.

Today’s list of apps is designed to help users buy and sell their stuff directly from a mobile device.  Whether it’s the leaf blower in the garage, that old baby playpen, or your transistor radio, sometimes you’re ready to clean house and make a profit.  Ten years ago the answer was either eBay or something more real-world like a yard sale.  Thanks to the power of Android and great app developers, we can sell the stuff in our house the second inspiration strikes.

We know there are other apps to help users buy and sell stuff, but we simply couldn’t squeeze them all into one post.  As the headline tells you, we’ve got to stick with five. To that end, we ask that you tell us your favorite apps for buying and selling stuff from around the house.

This week: Android apps Android apps for buying and selling your stuff

Official eBay Android App

A must-have app for eBay Buyers and Sellers that makes it easy to browse, shop, sell and manage your eBay activity whenever and wherever you are!

Seriously, we’re about to tell you what eBay is, or how it works.  Sorry, but that’s a foregone conclusion at this point. The official Android app lets users buy and sell items, manage your account, activities, and more.  Seriously, it’s everything you need to do to get your eBay on.  Search items by category, keyword, or even based on the barcode.  When it comes time to sell your own items, you can create listings, upload photos, and handle everything else from the mobile device in your hand.

Download eBay

EggDrop Local Marketplace

EggDrop is the smarter neighborhood marketplace. The hassle-free mobile app matches local buyers and sellers to cash in on Egganomics – the art and science of saving and making money from your mobile device.

Much like its web-based counterpart, the EggDrop app lets users buy and sell items based on their location. Let the app know where you are and it will return a myriad of results based on proximity.  Filter results based on more than one dozen categories, including stuff that’s outright free.

We actually prefer the mobile version as it seems more intuitive to sort by new, featured, and popular items.  Should you have a question or want to make an offer, the EggDrop makes this a cinch.  Ready to sell that old lamp?  Snap a photo or two and create a listing. Note that results may vary depending on your location and market size.

Download EggDrop

Quickable Marketplace

Quickable Marketplace (Beta) lets you quickly list your items for sale across multiple online marketplaces and social media sites. Sell on Craigslist, eBay and Twitter give your friends on Facebook a special Friends Only Price and much more! Reach millions of potential buyers for anything you would like to sell in seconds, with just a few taps on your smartphone.

We only recently became hip to Quickable but we sure do like what we’ve seen thus far.  The all-in-one app lets users buy and sell items across a variety of networks, including Quickable Marketplace, Craigslist, eBay, Facebook and Twitter.

Double your chances of selling an item by listing it with eBay and Quickable but sleep well knowing that the service handles things on the back end.  Sold that couch on eBay?  Quickable removes your listing so you don’t get dinged.

We applaud the developers strategy of releasing this mobile client on Android first and then on to other platforms.  Thanks to features such as free image hosting, instant messaging sellers, and product listing templates, we can see this one taking off.

SellBackYourBooks

Sell Textbooks and sell books with Sell Back Your Book for android. Sell Back Your Book allows you to get instant price quotes for over 600,000 books from your android phone by scanning the barcode of the book or entering the ISBN. We provide free shipping on all orders

Got a few old textbooks from last year’s classes just lying around the house?  Why don’t you see if you can turn them in and get a few bucks?  The official app for SellBackYourBook lets users enter ISBN’s or scan barcodes and get a free price quote.  Sure, you might only get a couple of dollars for that 9th edition social science book, but it’s better than collecting dust, right?  Bonus points for free shipping on the books.  You know much that stuff costs to mail?  Yikes!

Download SellBackYourBook

Craigslist Mobile

Searching with photo preview and Posting to Craigslist from your Android Phone.  Craigslist Mobile provides a simple and intuitive interface, but an extensive set of features to search, post, browser and reply on craigslist.org.

While it’s not quite an official app for Craigslist, it’s the highest rated one in Google Play.  And, with over 5 million downloads, we get the sense that folks are pretty cool with the app.  Features include searching and posting of ads, with or without an account, saving posts, contacting posters, and more.  Should you have some goods or services you’d like to offer up, the app allows for photo uploading, previews, and other helpful stuff.

Kindle Fire HD (7-inch) now available

Posted: 14 Sep 2012 10:45 AM PDT

Consider this a friendly reminder that the new Amazon tablet, the Kindle Fire HD, is now available.  Priced at $199, the 7-inch tablet features a 1280×800 HD display, 1.2 Ghz dual-core processor, Dual-band, dual-antenna Wi-Fi, Micro-HDMI, a front-facing camera, and at least 8GB storage.

While the specs are quite nice to be sure, it’s the software and the experience that sells the Kindle Fire HD.  Features like WhisperSync, X-Ray, and Kindle FreeTime provide a level of user satisfaction that you don’t get with standard tablets.  Of course, there’s also that direct access to Amazon Prime videos, a massive library of books, magazines, music, and more.  In other words, get your card out and order one, silly.

Samsung projecting 20 million Galaxy Note II sales

Posted: 14 Sep 2012 07:33 AM PDT

Samsung has really high expectations for its big, and now annual Android smartphone.  Not the Galaxy S III,  mind you, although it is off to quite a start of its own.  No, this time we’re talking even bigger than that. Yep -Samsung expects that they could move 20 million of their Galaxy Note II handset.

Speaking with reporters recently, Samsung’s JK Shin indicated that sales of the upcoming handset could eclipse the 20 million mark.

"Sales may grow more than two-fold (compared with the previous model)," -JK Shin

As to when the handset actually gets released, well it sounds like “some time in October” is the new answer.

Dyzplastic outs Escape Ape and Nexus collectibles

Posted: 14 Sep 2012 07:17 AM PDT

Dyzplastic has been on a roll this week, teasing their new Android collectible figures.  Starting things off a few days ago, we got a look at the 8-Ball Hustler.  Now we’ve got two more to check out and drool over, Escape Ape and Nexus.

As is the case with every other collectible Android figure from Dyzplastic, these look simply amazing and would make welcome additions to our office.  Or kitchen counter, bathroom sink, or living room table.  We cannot wait for the entire set to be loosed on us, so we’re crossing fingers that it happens soon.

ESCAPE APE: This is what happens when you test cosmetics on live animals.. escaped killer apes with blood on their hands. You’ve been warned! scape Ape is one of two killer Series 03 designs by South African artist and toy designer KRONK. This one has a 1/16 ratio, the other one.. well, that’ll be a bit harder to find.

NEXUS: This is one of those designs that needs to be seen in person to fully appreciate! Nexus sports a smokey dark translucent body and carries the latest generation flagship 4G LTE GSM dual band tri force quadruple card 5GHz 5″ HD* completely non-functional miniature Nexus phone accessory. Set him up near a light source for maximum effect! 2/16 ratio

New tidibits for HTC One X+ uncovered ahead of next week’s press event

Posted: 14 Sep 2012 05:57 AM PDT

A few more tidbits for the HTC One X+ have made their way online, this time courtesy of our friends over at HTC Source.  According to one of their insiders, the handset will have an identical appearance to its predecessor save for the fact that it might be a smidge thicker.

Powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the HTC device will come with Sense 4.5 UI, a slight tweak on the custom user experience.  Rather than reworking the entire HTC interface, things are reportedly only minor changes to existing apps.  As an example, the source advises the gallery app is updated to allow images from third parties such as Flickr and Facebook.

It is said that the T-Mobile version of the One X+ has been delayed however it’s no clear whether it was scrapped altogether. The HTC One X+ may come in 16GB and 32GB flavors for whatever carriers offer the handset.

Ending things on a bit of a downer the HTC Source tipster tells us that the phone will not be ready for the middle of October.  Still, that doesn’t mean you cannot announce the phone and promise carrier support in the coming weeks.  Heck, Motorola announced two phones last week that don’t even have dates yet.
