Tegra 3 powered HTC One X+ device shows up at FCC, includes LTE

Posted: 13 Sep 2012 11:23 AM PDT

A new HTC device going by the model number PM63100 has shown up in the FCC database. According the documents available, this new smartphone will have LTE capability, just as we suspected based on information slowly leaking out about the device over the past month. The model number corresponds to an HTC device that appeared on the GLBenchmark site back in July that was powered by a quad-core Tegra 3 processor running at 1.7GHz. Many think this new device will be the HTC One X+, a revision of their current flagship device the HTC One X. According to some specs that were released last week by an XDA forum member, the HTC One X+ will carry 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean installed. Based on the LTE bands identified in the FCC documents, it appears the device may be headed to AT&T, though we have also reported it should show up in T-Mobile's lineup as well.

Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak thinks Apple v. Samsung will be overturned

Posted: 13 Sep 2012 10:37 AM PDT

While Steve Wozniak had a public appearance in Shanghai, he held an interview fielding questions about the company he co-founded, Apple. He spoke about topics related to the newly unveiled iPhone 5 and the the Apple v. Samsung trial. In relation to the latter Wozniak was very clear that he hates all the litigation;

“I don't think the decision of California will hold. And I don't agree with it — very small things I don't really call that innovative. I wish everybody would just agree to exchange all the patents and everybody can build the best forms they want to use everybody's technologies.”

Wozniak’s ideas would definitely save manufacturers like Samsung, Motorola and HTC millions in legal fees, but Apple clearly does not agree with his sentiment, at least not as long these companies are contending with Apple’s products. Also in the interview, Wozniak mentioned the new iPhone and said, “I am always excited about every iPhone product because there are always good advances, a better quality on the pictures will mean a lot…” The iPhone 5 is very comparable to other android phones, but when all the litigation is over who knows who will be allowed to use what technology.

Motorola XT890 Smartphone Takes A Stroll Through The FCC, May Be The First Sign Of Motorola’s First Intel Phone

Posted: 13 Sep 2012 07:25 AM PDT

Now that the new DROID RAZR members are out in the open, all eyes are pointed towards Motorola’s upcoming Intel-powered beast and thanks to the FCC, we may have our first clue of what the device may be. A mysterious XT890 smartphone wandered through the FCC hallways and highlights a device that has GSM/WCDMA bands— which give it the clear indication it would be an AT&T-branded smartphone “if” it were released out here in the States. In addition, the mysterious smartphone will feature dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth certifications, which opens the door for NFC possibly being featured in the smartphone.

No other details for now, but we suspect we’ll see more information very soon…

Jimmy Kimmel proves that consumers don’t know the difference between the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S

Posted: 13 Sep 2012 07:08 AM PDT

My wife get’s mad at me when I say that the average consumer is clueless when it comes to technology, but it’s true. She thinks I’m saying that people are dumb, but it’s not about that. Technology is so rapid nowadays that the average Joe just doesn’t have the time to read up on things like our readers and myself do. Sometimes I even feel behind the curve. It’s actually one of the reasons why Apple is so successful with the iPhone. It’s a decent product with the simplest of simple UI’s.

As you all know by now, Apple unveiled the iPhone 5 yesterday, and Jimmy Kimmel wanted to know what people thought of it. His crew hit the streets to ask, but since the iPhone 5 isn’t available, they actually showed them the iPhone 4S. It’s hilarious listening to the comments that people make as they actually thought it was the new iPhone. I have to be honest though as I am positive you could show people the Galaxy S II and tell them it was the Galaxy S III, and you would get the same exact results. Hit the break to check it out.

Chinese Internet Giant Alibaba Argues Google Threatened To Cancel Alibaba-Powered Acer Smartphone

Posted: 13 Sep 2012 07:06 AM PDT

Is Google playing the role of a big bully? That’s what Chinese internet company Alibaba is claiming. As the Chinese alternative to Google grows and exerts influence on the mobile world (well, in China at least), Alibaba is not being shy about providing a better mobile user experience than Android does. Well, its confidence and bold goals is already affecting the creation and production of the smartphones in a big way. Alibaba alleges that Acer recently cancelled the CloudMobile A800 smartphone due to Google threats of revoking Acer’s Android license for its products. The key feature of the CloudMobile A800 is it operates on Alibaba’s Aliyun operating system— which happens to be a direct competitor of the Android OS. Here’s Alibaba releasing a blunt statement regarding its touted Aliyun OS, compared to Android:

“We believe that by introducing the Aliyun OS we are giving consumers and hardware makers more options which is the foundation of a healthy and strong market.  We think that it should be left to the market to decide”.

Google presumably has the top market share in the Chinese market, but it certainly is troubling to hear allegations from competing brands claiming Google is trying to more or less have a monopoly. After all, there are other brands vying for world takeover and all, so if this is true— Google must tread careful water on future Android partners deciding to create for other mobile operating systems. Let’s see if Google and/or Acer has a response for the claims made by Alibaba.

Posted: 13 Sep 2012 05:47 AM PDT

We previously thought that the Galaxy S Relay 4G would have the Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 chip, but T-Mobile confirmed that it will actually have the Snapdragon S4 chip. The improved technology should make the phone more appealing to T-Mobile customers looking for something in Samsung’s Galaxy line. The rest of the specs are the same as previously reported with a 4-inch display, Ice Cream Sandwich and NFC capabilities.

The Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G will be in stores on September 19 for $150 after the rebate. Does the improved technology make you want this phone more? Does it even make a difference?
