T-Mobile has just released a statement regarding its availability of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4. Although no specific date was given, the carrier has put up a "pre-registration" page where you can enter your email address to receive updates.
Prominently displayed underneath the shadow of the Galaxy S4 on the registration page is T-Mobile's new "4G LTE" logo, which makes it pretty clear that the latest device will indeed have T-Mo's new network on-board. More: T-Mobile; Samsung Galaxy S4 Forums

We've just received word from UK retailers Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U that they'll begin offering the new Samsung Galaxy S4 from April 25 and 26 respectively. The date ties in with the timetable of a late April global launch revealed by Samsung Mobile boss JK Shin at today's launch event in New York City. As it's just past midnight in the UK right now, we'd expect to learn more about individual carriers' plans in the morning. We'll keep you up-to-date on any further developments. Samsung's Unpacked event in New York City continues, and the latest new software feature on the new Galaxy S4 is S-Translator. Translator apps are nothing new, but Samsung's is pretty interesting on a few different fronts. First up, S-Translator knows 9 different languages. Really knows. Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and English are all understood in both a text-to-speech capacity as well as a speech-to-text capacity. The demonstration on stage pegged a tourist using S-Translator to help them out whilst they're on vacation. Looks pretty slick and is the sort of functionality that a lot of people could find real use for. Additionally, the optical reader built in can also translate printed text too. Pretty sweet. Here they are -- Samsung's official promotional images for the Galaxy S4. Here we see the "black mist" and "frost white" versions of Sammy's new high-end Android smartphone. As had been rumored, the Galaxy S4 draws inspiration from Samsung's big-selling Galaxy S3, with a similar front face and button setup. On the software side, we can see TouchWiz has been touched up a bit, but it's still very much recognizable as a Samsung smartphone. Click the images above to take a closer look. Truth be told, the Samsung Galaxy S4 hardware isn't really the star of the show. But that's not to say the Galaxy S4 specs aren't impressive. They most certainly are, and it's even more impressive considering that Samsung's built everything into a device that's in nearly the same footprint as its predecessor, the Galaxy S3. On the hardware side, there's really nothing too surprising. The Galaxy S4 broad strokes are a 5-inch display, 2 gigabytes of RAM and Samsung's usual mix of physical and capacitive buttons. | Samsung officially announces the Galaxy S4 Posted: 14 Mar 2013 04:30 PM PDT
The wait is over, and Samsung has made the much-anticipated Galaxy S4 official. There's no radical departure from Samsung's existing design language, and the Galaxy S4 looks very much like it's predecessor, but slightly refined and restyled to adapt to the new 5-inch display. The similarities end there, though, as the Galaxy S4 is an entirely different beast. Samsung's mobile chief J.K. Shin sums up the new software additions and enhancements nicely: "With the Galaxy S4, Samsung is again going to enhance the way we live". And there are a lot of new things coming to the table. Features like Samsung Adapt Display and Samsung Adapt Sound should help folks with special needs get a better smart phone experience, and the S Health package that uses device sensors to monitor and improve your quality of life and fitness are part of the new Samsung software, and look very innovative. Smart Pause, as we've seen in a leaked video, is on-board, as is the hovering technology which Samsung dubs "Air View". There's also plenty of additional features we haven't seen, like S Voice Drive to enable voice commands for use while driving, Samsung Optical Reader to scan printed text, and Samsung WatchON -- an IR remote control system. Samsung also delivers some great looking camera software, with a new Story Album photo feature and Dual Video Call, which will use both cameras so the other party can see you and what you're looking at. Of course, we have to talk about the specs. There is a full, detailed list after the break, but here are the highlights:
The processor type will likely be the unnamed (we're thinking Qualcomm, of course) 1.9 GHz quad-core for the North American market, and the Exynos octa-core for the world version. And the network bands seem to be missing T-Mobile's 1700 frequency on the spec sheet, but Samsung officially states T-Mobile US as a Q2 release, so that may be a typo. The device will be available in a total of 155 countries on a staggering 327 mobile operators worldwide, starting at the end of April. | 'The Croods' game from Rovio and DreamWorks now available Posted: 14 Mar 2013 03:18 PM PDT
Right on schedule, Rovio has just released its latest game "The Croods" into the Play Store to coincide with the upcoming release of the DreamWorks movie. In the game you get to play as the characters of the movie, getting through your prehistoric world, hunting and gathering to survive. The gameplay will remind you a lot of recent casual RPG games, with "chores" (quests) to go on and an expanding world that you can manipulate. It'll be good fun for those who want to kill some time and play as the characters from the movie. The game is free -- as is the case with recent Rovio titles -- and there are some in-app purchases to generate revenue, but that's usually the tradeoff when you have a free game with no ads. The Croods is available from the Play Store at the link at the top of this post if you're interested in giving it a try.

Availability of the LG Optimus G may not be big news if you live in the U.S. or Japan, but the device is now making its way to the U.K. SIM-free for the first time. Falling in line with LG's previous announcement, the Optimus G is making its way to the U.K. with LTE on-board (800/900/1800/2100/2600Mhz) and is also pre-loaded with the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. Other specs on the device seem to be the same as the U.S. -- Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Expansys is quoting a price of £479.99 (incl. VAT) for the black model, and says that stock is expected in the next 5 days. Anyone in the U.K. still interested in picking one of these up as availability of the Optimus G Pro is on the horizon? The Mint.com app has received a solid update today with lots of background improvements and a couple of forward-facing fixes. One of the biggest improvements in this update is the ability to update in the background every 4 hours. While we'd prefer a customizable update schedule, background syncing is a big step in the right direction. The other improvements are all about speed -- Mint is claiming faster transaction downloads and overall load times, along with a quicker way to categorize transactions on the phone interface. And the update wouldn't be complete without the nondescript "bugfixes" as well. You can grab a download of -- or update to -- the Mint Personal Finance app at the Play Store link above.

| Jelly Bean pushing out for Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and 7 Posted: 14 Mar 2013 01:11 PM PDT
After the initial Jelly Bean rollout for non-carrier branded devices, Veizon's Galaxy Tab 2 family is now getting its chance at some Jelly Bean goodness. This over the air update has been officially live for a few days, and it seems that a significant amount of users are finally getting the update pushed to their tablets. One of the biggest new features that comes packaged with this version of Android is Google Now, along with improved performance thanks to Project Butter. 7" Tab owners also get a new keyboard and updated softkeys, while those with a 10.1" Tab will now see lockscreen icons and an improved notification panel. For a full list of changes, see Verizon's official pages for the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. If you haven't already gotten the update notification manually, go to Settings in your tablet and tap on About Device, then System updates. Whatever your own personal opinions on the birth of the Chameleon Launcher project, one thing remains the same. People are talking about it. As people talk, interest grows, and Chameleon certainly brought a whole new take to the custom launcher scene. Very much a widget-orientated UI, there's no denying that it could completely change the look and feel of your Android tablet. And that's the other thing of course. | Samsung Galaxy S4 'floating touch,' 'smart pause' features caught on video ahead of launch Posted: 14 Mar 2013 05:09 AM PDT In just eleven hours time Samsung will be taking the wraps off the Galaxy S4 at its big presentation at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. In the meantime, we're seeing more leakage of the upcoming handset, including these two Chinese demos of the handset showing a couple of new features. First up is 'smart pause,' which uses the front-facing camera to detect when you're looking away from a video, pausing it accordingly. And secondly there's 'floating touch,' a feature previously rumored for the S4, and one we've already seen on the Sony Xperia Sola. Like the S Pen's hovering capabilities on the Galaxy Note 2, this detects your finger at a distance, bringing up extra info like folder previews in the gallery app. So it seems two of the rumored Galaxy S4 features may indeed be headed our way later today. Samsung has been telling us for a couple weeks now to "be ready 4 the next Galaxy", and LG is taking advantage of the wording to upstage Samsung's own Times Square ads today. In a bit of playful advertising, LG has purchased billboard space directly above Samsung's with larger, brighter ads that claim "LG Optimus G is here 4 you now!" and "It'll take more than 4 to equal one Optimus G". No matter where you stand on the merits of the Optimus vs. Galaxy camp, you have to admit that's some very clever and well-timed advertising by LG. The newest Galaxy from Samsung is expected to have SwiftKey typing prediction built into the software, according to a source of The Wall Street Journal. The next word and sentence prediction from SwiftKey is a welcome addition to the software, but probably shouldn't come as any surprise. The Galaxy Note 2 had the same prediction software built-in, and it would make sense that Samsung would continue those deals on to the latest flagship also. If this is the case, we'll likely hear about it alongside any other new software improvements Samsung has up its sleeve for the Galaxy S4 announcement. We won't have to wait long to hear about it either, as Samsung is set to unveil the device at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday in New York. We'll be there covering it live, naturally. Source: WSJ

It's less than 24 hours until we hear everything there is to know about the Galaxy S4 at Samsung's Unpacked event in New York, but that isn't a reason to stop the leakage. The same dual-SIM variant that leaked out a few days ago is back, with plenty of details and some very clear high-res pictures. The specs, according to the Chinese site it168 (and translated by Engadget Chinese):
The unit is also said to have a cross-hatch textured plastic back cover, that has already cracked on this particular unit. We can't read too much into that, as the plastic on previous Galaxy S models has been pretty durable. In addition, the eye-tracking software and hover-selection feature is said to be included. Is this what we'll see tomorrow evening? We have no idea, but doubt there would be too many complaints if it were the case. Hit the break for a picture of the back of the phone.

If you're lucky enough to have an HTC One in your hands, or are grooving along with Sense 5 on your Droid DNA, BlinkFeed just got a little better now that Mobile Nations sites are included feeds. Fire it up, and look under Technology & Science > Smartphone, and you'll see our sister site WP Central, and Android Central there to deliver the news straight to your home screen. Even though very few people have actually used it, we know plenty of folks aren't feeling the whole BlinkFeed thing. But for anyone using it now, or who will use it soon, can now get a little more Lloyd in their life.

Cricket's plans start at $50 for unlimited talk, text and 1GB of full-speed data. $60 gets you 2.5GB and $70 5GB of full-speed data if you're willing to pay a bit more. The plans are of course no-contract and the device is unsubsidized at $199. These phones may not appeal to the power users among us, but still hit a more price-conscious market segment that want or need a cheaper smart phone.
