Top 10 Android app updates: Redbox Instant, GO Weather EX, Skype

Posted: 06 Jul 2013 01:19 PM PDT

Welcome back to the return of our weekly Top 10 Android App Updates column, where we take a look at the most upgraded apps for the week. I've found that one of the best ways to discover useful apps is to look at what people are actually updating, not focus on which apps have the most installs. As in the past, we’re going to filter out minor updates for the super popular apps that have over 10 million installs, but I'm going to make an exception for apps that had significant updates. I hope you enjoy this weekly feature and discover some apps that you might find useful.

Motorola DROID MAXX leaked image shows off Kevlar shell, capacitive buttons

Posted: 06 Jul 2013 09:53 AM PDT

A leaked image of the Motorola Droid MAXX for Verizon is making its way across the web, giving us a clear look at the front of the phone. The design of the Motorola Droid MAXX isn’t much of a departure from devices like the RAZR M or RAZR HD, but it will be the first Motorola device in quite some time to not feature any logos on the front. The Droid MAXX trades in on-screen buttons for capacitive ones and the volume and power buttons visibly protrude from the right edge of the device.

While little in known about the Motorola Droid MAXX, the handset is associated with the XT1080M, said to be an extended battery version of the XT1080 Motorola Droid Ultra. Since the Droid Ultra recently passed through the FCC and is expected to make its way to Verizon stores soon, it’s not too far of a stretch to assume the Motorola Droid MAXX will be tagging along for the ride.
