Chromecast

A new Android app for the Google Chromecast lets users stream content from Dropbox directly to the TV hooked up to the dongle.

The developer of the app is the same Koushik "Koush" Dutta, who has recently shown us an application that lets you explore the gallery from an Android device on a TV screen via Chromecast.

The new unnamed app – it's currently described as Dropbox to Chromecast – isn't available for download just yet. The developer revealed with his previous app that, as per the terms of the Chromecast's beta SDK, he couldn't share APKs for these apps at this time.

However, you can see the app in action in the following video. What the app does is pretty simple: it lets you share content from your Drobox account via Chromecast directly from your Android device.

While this isn't exactly playing locally stored files, as it basically uses the Dropbox cloud to stream videos, it's still a neat trick that expands the things you can do with the device – assuming you have access to the app though.

There are plenty of other Chromecast tips and tricks you should check out, and we have a video on the matter for you (also embedded above).
