So we thought this would come sooner (and yes, I also thought I'd be taller) but well, things don't always go as planned. With the development of NFL Super Bowl app, the Recording Academy have followed suit.  The center of the organization's app is of course, The Grammys.
The app will be providing up to date information about the much anticipated yearly event through news updates, exclusive photos and videos, and a Twitter integration to it. In addition, the app will have music trivia and a 'Guess the Winner' poll tool where fans can vote amongst themselves on their favorite Grammy nominees. The app also has a live streaming of the music of nominees through Grammy Radio.
Grammys is supported by CBS Interactive.

On that note, we would like to express our condolences for Whitney Houston and her family and friends. Watch The Grammy later today and don't forget to use the app as your guide!

The Chaikin Power Tools stock app provides investment research tools previously available only to Wall Street firms. Developed by stock market expert Marc Chaikin. While not being a Nasdaq guy my self, I found the  Chaikin Power Tools app quick and easy to figure out by just playing with it. Well who is this app for?  The app is anyone who follows stocks from the guy just getting his toes wet, to the die hard who needs information on the go.
What kind of information can you get when using Chaikin Power Tools?
  • Centerpiece of app is unbiased Chaikin Power Gauge Rating which gives you in-depth analysis of a stock's potential distilled into simple displays: Green is bullish, Red is bearish.
  • No more content overload, just the info you need to make smarter buy/sell decisions.
  • Watchlist – Enter up to 20 stock symbols to check Chaikin Power Gauge Rating, current Price, and Changes.
  • Drill down for more detail: Chaikin Power Gauge components, intra-day and 6-month Charts, and Fundamentals.
  • Charts in our stock app feature Chaikin Money Flow and historical Power Gauge Rating.
Chaikin Power Tools interface is straight forward and simple, navigating through the app was also simple enough. Adding additional companies than the ones pre-selected was as easy as adding the stock symbol and hitting add, the same goes for removing them by just hitting the X. Once you have the companies your are interested in following, and very simple to understand charts are pulled up giving you additional information for that company. The gauge telling you information from earnings performance, to price/volume activity. In the charts tab it informs you of a little more detailed information from the 52 week high, some history on the company, to the fundamentals.  I found the real time index levels on the main page to be a nice touch, it made it real simple to see how the market was doing overall for the day.
Overall I found the app very functional, and simple to navigate. It is perfect for the busy professional who is looking to get some information on the go, and doesn’t want to pull out their laptop every time they need an update for their stock. The addition of a widget for this app would be a really handy feature, but as it stands now the app is rock solid for what it does. You cant go wrong with giving this app a shot, it may even make you a few bucks!

Romance is slowly filling the air as Valentine's Day approaches.  Share the love with your Android device with these applications that will definitely set the mood for your Red Day affair.

M.A.S.H.

Whether you have a date on Valentine's Day or you plan on spending it with friends, a dose of MASH can add a bit of fun to the occasion.  MASH, which can mean either "Married, Acquaintances, Soulmates, Happy," or "Mansion, Apartment, House, Shack" is that high school game we all used to play to "predict" our futures with our crushes.  This time around, we can have the guilty teeny-bopper pleasure of playing it on our Droids.
A cute feature is that you can share your results with a friend via email or SMS.  If you're having way too much fun, you can upgrade to the full version (M.A.S.H. Pro) which gives you the option to add questions, and even save your love predictions on a journal within the app.

Wish Your Valentine

Wish Your Valentine is an all-around app that can be quite useful if you want to constantly remind your loved one that you care.  Send e-flowers with personalized messages, get tips on how to treat him or her right, generate quotes, and even have fun testing your compatibility.

Ways To Say I Love You

If you're not good with words and are in need of a bit of inspiration, then this simple app is definitely for you.  Choose from an array of different romantic lines and practice them in front of a mirror before your date.  Or if you can't wait, immediately send them to your loved one with the share button.

I Love You In 24 Countries

If you still can't find the right words to say even after studying those love quotes, then why not say "I love you" in 24 different languages?  It's a fun app to use if you have extra space in your device.  You can even upgrade to I Love You In 40 Countries if he or she still isn't convinced.

Bubble Blast Valentine

In case your date is late to your evening affair, pass the time with Bubble Blast Valentine's Edition.  This game will definitely keep you occupied.

Photo Heart Locket

Feeling cheesy?  Give your device an immediate V-day overhaul with this live wallpaper app.  Take photos of you and your loved one and set them in cute heart-shaped frames on your home screen.  Every swipe will give you a burst of hearts and every tap with give you kiss marks.  If you have another photo, you can set it so as to create transitions.  It's pretty nifty – just watch out for your battery life.

Valentine's Weight Loss

Chocolates are the inevitable calorie trap that everybody falls for during this time of the year.  Motivate yourself to lose that excess weight with this free add-on to the CardioTrainer program.  Place the widget on your home screen to monitor your daily progress.  If you're successful, you'll enjoy the little surprise at the end!

Foursquare

In case you're a late adopter and still haven't installed this in your Android device, now is a good time to do so.  This location-based social networking app can help you look for perfect places to take your date – may it be a restaurant, a movie house, or a hotel.  Discounts and other goodies also await you in places with ongoing Foursquare campaigns.  You can even have fun with those badges and mayorships if you keep at it.
Are there any additional apps you know that can help make your V-day more enjoyable?  Share it with us by leaving a comment!

Looks like WhatsApp just got updated to fix a couple of major bugs for Samsung and ICS users. If you’re not familiar with WhatsApp, it’s an app that allows you to text people using your data plan, not your texting plan. It also has quite a few cool features along with group chatting, and the best feature is that it’s completely free! You can also text international for no additional charges, pretty cool app right? WhatsApp is one of the most popular Social apps in the Android Market right now, and is available on every smartphone platform including Blackberry, Symbian, iOS, and webOS.
Here’s the full changelog for version 2.7.3581:
  1. Critical bug fix for Samsung devices that would “lose” their registration
  2. Notification coloring bug fix for Ice Cream Sandwich devices
Update your install of WhatsApp today, especially if you were plagued by these bugs. If you have any problems post them in the comments below. If you don’t have it installed already, you can hit the source link below and download it today.

This is our new monthly column that will feature the best from Sprint for each month. We are doing one for each carrier in the US. We are going to bring you current promotions as well as our picks as the best Android device in a range of categories that are available on the Now Network. Please feel free to provide your feedback in the comments so we can make this column even better for you. Also be sure to share this with all your friends on Sprint, so if they are looking to upgrade you can give them advice based on our knowledge.

Current News and Promotions

LG Optimus S: Currently Sprint is offering the LG Optimus S as part of their Smartphone starter package, and it is on sale for just $49.99 and monthly charges are as low as $79.99. Since this is a WiMax device it will cost you the extra $10 premium data charge on top of their Simply Everything Data, which brings you truly unlimited data.

Best Android Phone: Samsung Galaxy S2, Epic 4G Touch

Yes, this one is still the best phone in Sprint’s arsenal. It’s also the only CDMA Galaxy S2 device in the world, seeing as Sprint and Verizon are the only CDMA carriers and Verizon didn’t get its’ own Galaxy S2. With it’s huge 4.5″ beautiful display, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board storage, and 1.2GHz dual-core Exynos processor this phone is truly a beast. With unlimited data what more could you ask for?
The Epic 4G Touch does come with Gingerbread, but it will be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich in the very near future, like always, Samsung didn’t give us an exact date on when the upgrade will be available. This phone is super fast, if you’ve ever used this phone at all (even in the Sprint store) you will notice it is probably one of the fastest phones around. It zips through basically everything you can do on your device. The Epic 4G Touch costs $199 on a new 2-year contract at Sprint.

Best QWERTY Slider Android Phone: HTC EVO Shift 4G

The EVO family on Sprint has been pretty successful, it started with the HTC EVO 4G which was Sprint’s first WiMax 4G device, and now we also have the HTC EVO Shift 4G, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO View 4G, and the HTC Design 4G (which is a world phone).
The EVO Shift 4G has a slightly smaller screen than what we are used to these days, but the color of the device looks pretty nice. We don’t see to many blue handsets anymore, they are mostly black or white, or in the Droid Razr’s case purple. The EVO Shift 4G has a 3.6-inch display, 512MB of RAM, 2GB of on-board storage, and a 1500mAh battery. It doesn’t have a dual-core processor but then this phone is about a year old already. Sprint really needs to step its’ game up and get more Android devices, but Verizon is taking all the good stuff. The EVO Shift 4G is $99.99 on contract from Sprint’s website.

Best World Phone: HTC EVO Design 4G

The HTC EVO Design 4G comes with a 4-inch qHD display, 1.2GHz processor, 769MB of RAM, 4GB of on-board storage, and a 1520mAh battery. With a price tag of $99.99 on Sprint’s website with a new 2-year agreement, it’s a great device for anyone who travels out of the country often. The newest member of the HTC EVO family, the EVO Design 4G is the first in the family to get global capabilities, and have WiMax capabilities built in.

Best Tablet: ZTE Optik

Ok so Sprint only has 2 tablets which they offer service for, which are the HTC EVO View 4G (Which is almost EOL), and the new ZTE Optik which is just $99.99 with a new 2 year agreement. The Optik has a 7-inch display with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board storage, a 1.25GHz processor, and a 4000mAh battery. It’s more of a budget tablet, but right now it’s their newest and therefore my pick for the best on the Now Network, since the EVO View 4G will be discontinued any day now.

Best Budget Android Phone: Samsung Transform Ultra

It was hard to decide on a budget device from Sprint, since most of their phones are either $99.99 or less with the exception of the Epic 4G Touch. But the Samsung Transform Ultra is free with a new contract or upgrade on Sprint’s website. It features a 1Ghz snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM with 1GB of on-board storage, powered by a 1500mAh battery. It also is a slider with a full physical keyboard. So it’s not the best budget phone in the world, but you could do a lot worse.

New Releases

At CES Sprint announced 2 new Android devices that will be available for their LTE network, since they are dropping support for WiMax now. So there will be no more WiMax devices, only 3G or LTE devices. They announced the LG Viper and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Both some really nice spec-ed devices. We all know what the Samsung Galaxy Nexus can do, but this was the first time we had actually seen the LG Viper. The Viper’s spec’s aren’t totally confirmed but we don’t expect launch until late Q2 or early Q3 which is when their LTE network will be launching. But so far we know it will feature a 4-inch display, with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of on-board storage, powered by a 1700mAh battery. Which from what we’ve seen on Verizon with their LTE devices, 1700mAh is not the best in battery sizes.

Well that was quick, but what did we expect from the Android Developers community? They are always quick at rooting and creating ROM’s among other things. The Droid 4 was only released yesterday and now we have a way to root it, courtesy of security researcher Dan Rosenberg.
That’s some pretty good news for people that were waiting to pick this one up until there was a way to root it. Currently this method is Windows-only, at least for now. Download a .zip file, put your Droid 4 into USB debugging mode, and run the exploit file. Takes just a couple minutes and a couple reboots. It’s just that easy.
You can download the .zip file by hitting the source link below. Try it out and let us know how it works for you.

Ok, don’t get to upset. It’s not that much money, AT&T is basically changing their upgrade fee from $18 to $36. Yes it is a 100% increase but it still isn’t all that bad. At least the Early Termination Fee isn’t doubling, now that would be a nightmare since it’s already $350.
Here is what an AT&T Spokeswoman told Android Central regarding the matter:
Wireless devices today are more sophisticated than ever before. And because of that, the costs associated with upgrading to a new device have increased and is reflected in our new upgrade fee. This fee isn't unique to AT&T and this is the first time we're changing it in nearly 10 years.
I am actually a bit surprised they didn’t decide to keep the $18 charger for feature phones and make the $36 upgrade fee for smartphones, they’ve already seperated the ETF’s that way. So if you have an upgrade coming in the next week or so, you may want to head to AT&T today before the changes go into effect, yeah its only an extra $18 but that’s $18 you could use on something else like maybe a new case or extended battery for your new phone?
