Share batches of photos and videos with Kicksend

Posted: 30 May 2012 12:49 PM PDT

Sharing a photo or video from your Android phone or tablet is not all that difficult to do.  Generally, you have one button to tap (SHARE) and then a seemingly endless number of ways/apps/services to share them with.  But what happens when you have an entire birthday party worth of pictures you want to give mom?  It's not quite so easy now is it?

Sure, you can upload all of your files to Google+, Dropbox, or wherever and then share access.  On the other hand you can send them via email, one or two at a time.  Both ways kind stink if you ask us. Kicksend allows for unlimited sharing of both photo and videos and it's hassle free.

To be clear, Kicksend doesn't so much as send the file directly to the recipient as it notifies them that they are available for downloading via direct links. If the person on the other end happens to have the app, they will get a notification within the client and can view them from the phone.Download Kicksend from the Google Play store and you'll see just how simple the process of sharing multiple photos can be.  Not only can you send to other Kicksend users and email addresses, but you can also create groups to share with in those times when more than one person wants/needs access.  It is not required that your friends or recipients sign up for Kicksend however you can request an additional layer of privacy and require them to log in to Kicksend. This is to ensure that your stuff stays private no public links are posted.Beyond the mobile client, Kicksend also offers a desktop app that lets you send files larger than 150MB, receive instant notifications, and more.

Child Pad: An Alvin & Chipmunks themed tablet good enough for most adults

Posted: 30 May 2012 09:24 AM PDT

Archos has today announced a new Android tablet that, while designed for children, could be enough to satisfy many adults.  It's called the the Arnova Child Pad and it's an Android 4.0 tablet with a very attractive $129 price point.  Loaded with Alvin & The Chipmunks apps and wallpapers, the 7-inch device comes with a number of services and applications that are both educational and fun.

The hardware here is actually quite impressive for the money and include a 1GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage, microSD expansion, and a front-facing camera. Toss in WiFi connectivity, micro-USB, support for 1080p video playback and you've got a decent little tablet.

We love the fact that the Child Pad comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich however we're somewhat bummed at the lack of Google Play or Amazon Appstore.  Nevertheless, you could do much worse than the censored AppsLib store for new apps and games.  We totally get the rationale behind the decision to not load it with a full-on Google experience and applaud Archos for having the stones to intro this sort of device.  We've enjoyed their continued foray into the Android space and think the Child Pad won't be the only type of tablet designed with children in mind... and is powered by Android.

We suspect that, with a bit of hacking , the Archos Arnova Child Pad might a decent option for adults looking to save a buck or two on a tablet. We saw that the modding community fully embraced the Nook Color and was quick to buy them based on price alone.  On the other hand, we're good with this thing exactly the way it is and would consider one for our little one.  How about you?

Google+ Local goes live with free Zagat integration

Posted: 30 May 2012 08:41 AM PDT

Google has introduced a new feature for the Google+ experience which helps users find highly rated nearby restaurants, hangouts, bars, and more.  Taking advantage of their Zagat acquisition from last year, the new element delivers scores and summaries from one of the most trusted names in the business.  What's more, Google + Local also provides reviews from friends in your circles, addresses, hours of operation, and other handy stuff.

You can also share your opinions and upload photos. These reviews and photos will help your friends when they're checking out a place, and are also integrated into the aggregate score that other people see. The more you contribute, the more helpful Google+ Local will be for your friends, family and everyone else.

We really like the direction that Google is taking here as they tie many of their services into one experience.  We're digging the way Google has managed to integrate Google Maps, Latitude, Buzz, and contacts into this central app.

Look for Google+ Local feature online immediately and later today in your Android app.  Google promises even more features are coming soon, one of which we expect to be tied to Events.
