Facebook Gets Yet Another update, Camera and Messenger Icons a Thing of the Past

If you are an avid Facebook user then there is no doubt that you noticed the annoying camera and messenger icons that appeared in your app drawer after the recent 1.9 update for the Facebook app. After being ridiculed by app users, Facebook listened to the cry’s of unnecessary bloat and removed those pesky icons with a more recent 1.9.1 update and added the shortcuts to the lower left hand corner of the app itself.

After all that, now it seems that Facebook wasn’t happy with that option, issued yet another update, and removed those shortcuts from the app altogether… Finally, right?! And why would they think that 3 app icons for there app would go over well with users? Anyway, also included in the update is a few of the usual bug fixes and that is about it. Recent Galaxy Note 10.1 Benchmark Test Suggests Quad-Core Upgrade

It was last month that we heard that the reason for Galaxy Note 10.1 delay was for a nice little hardware bump, replacing its dual-core chip with the faster, more powerful quad-core Exynos 4412. Now we aren’t entirely positive that this is to be the case, but remember, a Samsung spokesperson said that the device would be entirely different than when it was announced at MWC so we have no reason to believe a quad-core jump wouldn’t be in favor.

To back up that theory, a new Galaxy Note 10.1 NenaMark benchmark test result shows a frame rate of 58.8 fps. This is a frame speed similar to the one that the Transformer Prime can produce, a device with a blazing fast quad-core processor. Just to make a comparison, the 1.4GHz dual-core Galaxy Tab 7.7 scores a 44fps and the Galaxy Note brings in 48fps. This is quite a large increase in speed and my speculation suggests it’s because a quad-core chip was used in this recent NenaMark test.

As it goes with any rumors or speculation, this Exynos 4412 idea should be taken with a grain of salt. It won’t be until we get official confirmation that we will for sure know that the Galaxy Note 10.1 will be rocking a quad-core chip. Stay tuned…

Droid Incredible 4G LTE Launch Pushed Back to May 31?

We recently watched as Verizon accidentally and temporarily activated the Droid Incredible 4G LTE page on the Droid Does website. If that wasn’t enough to lead you to believe that its release was just around the corner than how about the rumor suggesting its launch on May 10th? Either way, we are about to get a new Droid phone from Verizon but it would be nice to be able to pinpoint a release date.

According to sources close to PhoneDog, the rumored May 10th launch has been pushed back a couple weeks and now the Droid Incredible 4G LTE could be released on Thursday, May 31st. There is no word on why the release date was pushed back but you can expect that we will fill you in as soon as we hear anything more.

Office Depot Lists Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 WiFi-Only Version As Available For Pre-Order

Ah yes, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 saga. When we had last heard anything about the upcoming tablet, Sammy pulled the device last minute due to its interest in upgrading the device, which left many of us anticipating the device sad to say the least. Well cheer up because it looks like we’re one step closer to having the sleek tablet in our hands as it is now available for pre-order thanks to Office Depot. According to the website, the Galaxy Tab 2 will be a WiFi-only model featuring Ice Cream Sandwich, 16GB of memory and a WXGA display at 1280 x 800 resolution. The tablet looks to be reasonably priced too as it will go for a mere $400 and will be released on May 11th (Friday).

Unfortunately, the site doesn’t list whether or not the processor is indeed the quad-core variant as we are suspecting. Here’s hoping Sammy doesn’t let us down and include a dual-core processor like it did with the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0.

Hefty update approved for Droid 3, no Ice Cream Sandwich in sight

Rumours this morning were that Motorola is working on a soak test for a Droid 3 software update. It looks like the team have been working fast as Verizon has just posted the official changelog online. Firmware version 5.7.905 is on the horizon and you might just want to make sure you have plenty of battery charge and a wifi connection for this one as it’s a whopping 224MB in size. One might hope that such a sizeable update might bring some Ice Cream Sandwich goodness but no such luck I’m afraid. The update is primarily bug fixes, security patches, stability improvements as well as tweaks to some apps, call quality and camera performance. You can see the full details in the image above.

Galaxy Tab 2 screenshot surfaces

What’s this we have here, another Galaxy leak? Thankfully the Galaxy S III is now official and that rollercoaster ride has closed so this new leak is for the Galaxy SCH-I705 which is said to be the Tab 2 for Verizon. BriefMobile received the above image from a tipster who told them that the SCH-I705 will be a 7 inch, 4G tablet running Android 4.0.4 with Samsung TouchWiz. The mystery tablet will run a 1.2GHz Qualcomm dual-core processor with an Adreno 225 GPU.

We have no more specifics at this time however stay tuned to TalkAndroid and we’ll being you the updates as soon as we have them.

HTC VP of User Experience Says Sense 4.0 Offers “A Vastly Improved Experience Over Not Just Ice Cream Sandwich But Over Any Mobile Phone”

In an interview with Laptop, HTC’s AVP of User Experience Drew Bamford talked about Sense 4.0, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the HTC One series of phones, and usability. He said during the interview that he believes Sense 4.0 beats stock Android 4.0 in a number of areas.

“ I think one of them that I already mentioned is in the area of personalization. I think between our widget sets, our customizable lock screen and our skins, we offer a much more personal experience overall.

A couple that you've probably heard a lot about because they're our kind of key feature on the HTC One are the camera and authentic sound. I think in both of those areas we use design and technology to really offer a vastly improved experience over not just Ice Cream Sandwich but over any mobile phone.”

Bamford also mentions that HTC didn’t have a lot of time with ICS before they released Sense 4.0, working on elements of Sense before ICS was available to them.

“There was not a lot of time between when we saw Ice Cream Sandwich and when we released our Sense 4. In fact, we were designing things like our recent apps UI well in advance of when Ice Cream Sandwich came out. So really this represents our spacing on the best way to do it; it's not an intentional rebuttal of the Ice Cream Sandwich design. It's just a different approach that we eventually came up with.”

This, coupled with the fact that HTC had already decided to put Sense on a diet, is why Sense 4.0 is much lighter on its feet. They boiled it down to the essence of Sense and removed a lot of the unnecessary bells and whistles.
