Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies Coming Soon To Android [Leaks]

Call of Duty. Zombies. Android. Once you’re done freaking out, we can continue. Cool? Okay, now I can give you a little more info on exactly what I’m talking about. The fine folks at XperiaGamer dug up this nugget of a find when, after rummaging through the official Call of Duty website, they stumbled upon a field manual for the Android version of COD Blops Zombies. Strange because an Android port has never been announced. Inside the manual they found the usual information regarding the game, highlighting the ability to play locally with friends using Bluetooth.

No word on exactly when we can expect face eating zombies to hit our Android devices but it’s looking everything is all but ready to go. The zombies… they’re coming. Prepare yourself.

Yum. Dead Trigger better watch out.

Summer is in full effect and LG may have plans to keep a some of their customers cool during the heatwave in the form of ice cream. Ice Cream Sandwich that is. According to a rep over on LG’s support forums, Android 4.1 is ready for prime time and they’re now just waiting around for Verizon to give a date for the roll out. He later asked forum members to keep an eye on the company’s update page for more information, once again — while they wait for word from Verizon. Shouldn’t be much longer, friends. This news comes after an ICS update was leaked almost 2 months ago for the device. Any of our readers currently own the LG Spectrum?

Former Infinity Ward Creative Strategist Robert Bowling backs OUYA with exclusive game

Posted: 19 Jul 2012 03:02 PM PDT

Robert Bowling, the former creative strategist for Infinity Ward (the development studio responsible for the Call of Duty series), has announced his company’s backing of OUYA.

Alongside a generous $10,000 investment into the project — an amount that seems like chump change compared to the $5 million that’s already been raised on Kickstarter — Robotoki will be creating an exclusive game for the Android gaming console.

The game will be released in an episodic format, much like the Sonic 4 games, and will be a prequel to the company’s planned AAA title Human Element that’s due in 2015. T

his is a great move by Robotoki to not only kick-start major development for OUYA, but to use this as an opportunity to start generating steam for their upcoming survival title.

This console just got a whole lot more attractive and it’ll be interesting to see how many more major players are in line to support one of the most anticipated projects on Kickstarter.

We look forward to seeing how this Human Element prequel will turn out. Watch an interview with Robert Bowling regarding the main Human Element game above for an idea of what to expect.

Google rakes in $12.21 billion for Q2’12

Posted: 19 Jul 2012 01:16 PM PDT

Just minutes shy of their investors’ call for Q2’12 Google announced it made $12.21 billion in the second quarter of this year (that’d be the three month period ending June 30th).

Their new-found ownership of Motorola brought in $1.25 billion of that with their “hardware and other” category, $843 million of which came from their mobile devices division.

That figure is a 35% improvement over the same quarter a year ago, and 50% quarter-over-quarter. GAAP net income and non-GAAP net income for 2012 was $2.79 billion and $3.35 billion, respectively.

This is a slight improvement over the same quarter a year ago. It’ll be a very interesting third quarter for Google as they get a full round with Motorola and make strides in searches, social networking, and Android. Head here for their full financial results.

Chameleon pre-orderers to receive beta release beginning of August

Posted: 19 Jul 2012 12:39 PM PDT

The promising new Android launcher Chameleon far surpassed its initial funding goal on Kickstarter, and now its pre-orderers will soon be able to enjoy the perks of their pledges. They have announced that the beta release of the launcher will head our way early August.

New pledges are not being taken, unfortunately, so if you didn’t already get the minimum required package for the beta ($5) you won’t be getting it ahead of the full release.

If you did get in on it then be on the lookout for an email from the Chameleon team with instructions on how to access the beta (it’ll be in the Google Play Store but will likely require a login of sorts) once early August lands. [Kickstarter, thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Dead Trigger to get a huge new update soon [VIDEO]

Posted: 19 Jul 2012 11:55 AM PDT

Dead Trigger has been out for a relatively short time on the Google Play Store and it is already in line for a brand new update. MadFinger games threw everything at us with this update (yep, that’s even including the kitchen sink). New zombies, new weapons (chainsaw!), new areas to visit (the money-hole AKA a casino) and more will all be featured in the massive update.

The update will also add support for the Adreno 205 GPU for older Snapdragon phones. MadFinger made special mention of the Xperia Play so we expect there to be full support for its controls once the update hits the Google Play Store. There’s no launch date just yet but we’re promised it’ll be here soon.

We’re also not sure if this update will require an in-app purchase to unlock all these cool new things but MadFinger didn’t say either way. Get your eyes over to the juicy trailer up above.

Auralux for Android introduces unique RTS option [VIDEO]

Posted: 19 Jul 2012 11:01 AM PDT

NVIDIA and Wardrum Studios, the developers responsible for Rockstar’s Android ports, have announced a new game that will be coming to the Google Play Store soon. The game’s name is Auralux and it introduces some unique elements to the wonderful real-time strategy genre.

You get one set of units and you only give them one command, but it’s the strategic way of going about issuing that command that will help you defeat your foes.

And beyond that the game’s visuals respond to the in-game music, and sound effects will ring out in conjunction with the actions you take. The game will launch sometime soon, but do note that this will be a Tegra-exclusive title for a limited time period. Have a look at the preview above.

Analyst cuts projected Kindle Fire sales numbers in light of Nexus 7

Posted: 19 Jul 2012 08:23 AM PDT

The early popularity of the Nexus 7 is great news for Google, but not so much for their competitors. Amazon, who is said to be gearing up for a late summer launch of an updated version of their Android-based Kindle Fire, has the most to lose in the 7-inch tablet market. The retailer surely won’t like news that Cowen analyst Kevin Kopelman is reducing his sales forecast for the Kindle Fire in 2012.

Kopelman now says the Kindle Fire, which competes directly at the Nexus 7′s $199 price point, will sell in the range of 12 million units, a reduction of 2 million from his initial forecast of 14 million. The lower sales numbers equate to a 2 percent reduction in projected revenue in 2012 and a 3 percent reduction in 2013.

We’ve yet to see any hard data comparing first month sales figures of the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire, but it is known that sales of Amazon’s tablet have dropped off since an initial holiday boom. Rumored specs for a Kindle Fire 2 put it closer to the Nexus 7 in terms of hardware, but it remains to be seen if the new model will spark sales.

Samsung denied chance to use Jobs’ own words against him in Apple case vs. Galaxy Tab

Posted: 19 Jul 2012 08:01 AM PDT

You would think that Apple would be the company requesting permission to use quotes from the late Steve Jobs as a means to sway jurors in deciding the ultimate fate of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1, but it’s the other way around. Samsung was hoping Judge Lucy Koh would find certain infamous quotes from Jobs’ biography permissible in hearings regarding the claims that their own tablet infringes on design rights granted to Apple’s iPad.

Specifically, Samsung was hoping to use Jobs’ aggressive stance shown in statements such as “I am going to destory Android…I’m willing to go thermonuclear war” and “I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong” to illustrate “Apple’s bias” and “improper motives.” Koh denied the company’s request, saying this case is not “a trial about Steve Jobs.”

Judge Koh has already ordered a temporary injunction on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 pending the results of hearings to determine whether or not Samsung in fact infringed upon Apple’s rights. The trial is set to begin in San Jose, CA at the end of the month.

Vodafone UK picks up the Huawei Ascend P1 for August release, available now at Canada’s WIND Mobile

Posted: 19 Jul 2012 07:41 AM PDT

The Android 4.0-powered Huawei Ascend P1 is about to find a home for itself on Vodafone in the UK. Staying with Huawei’s theme of providing affordable smartphone options, the phone will be available for free on plans starting at £26 per month. The Ascend P1, however, is not your typical low-cost device from the Chinese manufacturer. It features a 1.5GHz dual-core TI OMAP processor, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD display, and 8MP camera along with enhancements like Dolby Mobile sound.

We recently reviewed the Ascend P1, and while a comparison to the the current generation of quad-core smartphones would be unfair, we found the handset to be a more than capable Ice Cream Sandwich device. Look for it at Vodafone starting in August. The Ascend P1 is also available today from Canada’s WIND mobile, with pricing starting at $49.

Latest CyanogenMod 9 release candidate brings support for Samsung Galaxy S3 and more

Posted: 19 Jul 2012 06:31 AM PDT

The CyanogenMod team might be busy looking ahead to a Jelly Bean-based release, but let’s not forget that the Ice Cream Sandwich version of the popular custom Android software was only recently made available as a release candidate. Now that release candidate of CyanogenMod 9 is in its second iteration, and along with bug fixes and updated translations brings support for several new Samsung devices, including the international version of the Galaxy S3 (i9300).

Other devices now supported include the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Samsung Galaxy S II on AT&T (Skyrocket) and T-Mobile, and the Samsung galaxy Note on AT&T. While the team is calling the latest release “a product that you’d let your mom use” (i.e. pretty stable), it is not the final release of CM9. It does however bring us one step closer to that final release, which in turn brings us yet another step closer to the Android 4.1 CM10.
