Is HTC launching a new flagship smartphone?

Posted: 12 Jul 2012 03:30 PM PDT

HTC One X was a major hit for HTC and there's no doubt in it that it's one of the best devices ever made by the Taiwanese giant. As we just told you that HTC is planning to make a new impact in the tablet market, it seems they are also looking forward to bring a new successor to their One series. A new device with model number PM63100 showed up at GL Benchmark with some good scores, and also some information is out about the hardware.

According to it, the device is codenamed as "evitareul" and about the specs, it's running a Tegra 3 just like One X, but it's clocked at 1.7 GHz. The screen is a 720p display though no words on the dimension of it. Right now it's running on Ice Cream Sandwich, but it is expected that it will feature Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at launch.

There are chances that it will hit AT&T and it will run on their LTE network, though no words on when it's finally coming out. Do you think that this device would be great update to One X? Tell us what do you think in the comment box below.

Sprint announces white HTC EVO 4G LTE, will be available on July 15

Posted: 12 Jul 2012 02:53 PM PDT

In April, HTC and Sprint officially unveiled their next powerhouse smartphone known as the HTC EVO 4G LTE. It was made available in Sprint's store during the first week of June, and overall it's a very decent device. Now Sprint has officially announced a white version of the HTC EVO 4G LTE, which is surprisingly more sexier than the black variant.

Sprint is planning to launch it on July 15 and it will cost the same as the black version, only $199 with a 2-yr contract. Except the white colour, everything else is same like Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich along with Sense UI 4.0, a 4.7 inch Super LCD screen with 1280 x 720 pixels, 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8MP rear camera with ImageSense technology, 1.3MP front-facing camera and 16GB of internal memory with MicroSD card.

Are you planning to grab the white variant or you already got the black one? Tell us what you think in the comment box below.

Rovio is famous for creating one of the most amazing games of all time, Angry Birds. From last 3 years, they have been launching several updated versions of it, like Angry Birds Seasons and the best so far is Angry Birds Space. Now Rovio decided to change the scene a little bit by introducing a new game known as Amazing Alex. It's a physics-based puzzle game and it's now available for download from the Google Play store, though you have to pay $0.99 before downloading it.

Actually the game asks players to solve a series of static and moving objects that can be combined and rearranged to clear the level. Motorola XT907 appears with Verizon colours, a budget-friendly phone?

Posted: 12 Jul 2012 01:10 PM PDT

Verizon's Droid RAZR series is very famous now a days, and I personally believe that Motorola RAZR is probably the sexiest Moto device ever made. Now it looks like Verizon is introducing a new device; it's the Motorola XT907 and it's leaked with Verizon and Verizon's 4G LTE branding. It's probably part of the Droid RAZR family and it looks like a budget-brother of the RAZR HD.

Rumour has it that it will feature a display with qHD resolution and a Snapdragon S4 processor, there are on screen navigation-keys, and also there's a HD camera on the back. However, not much is known about this mysterious device so lets wait for Verizon to come out and clear the air.

Anyway, are you looking forward to grab a budget-friendly Android phone from Motorola and Verizon? Share your thoughts with us in the comment box below.

HTC planning to make a ‘unique’ tablet?

Posted: 12 Jul 2012 12:45 PM PDT

HTC entered the tablet market with the beautiful HTC Flyer; however it wasn't a big hit, same thing happened with HTC JetStream. Now they want to make an entry again in the crowded Android tablet with a 'unique' tablet. HTC representative told PC advisor that a tablet will 'definitely' arrive, and HTC will make sure it has a unique selling point. Though they are still waiting for the day when something 'unique' will hit them.

The Android tablet market is very competitive, and also there are other tablets like the iPad and Microsoft Surface. At the moment, no further information is available related to the specs and release date, but we can make few guesses, right? Its probably confirm that it will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and there's a possibility that it will be running on the latest quad-core processor. Also we can expect to see HTC's famous stylus as well.

One thing HTC should focus on is the price tag. If the price tag is unique like the Nexus 7's one, then I am sure it will be a great hit, but lets see what HTC is up to. Offering a tablet with mouth-watering specs and a balanced price tag is always a unique and best selling point.

Folks, are you looking forward to HTC's upcoming 'unique' creation? Tell us about it in the comment box below.

NBC teams with Adobe to launch two London Olympics apps

Posted: 12 Jul 2012 12:20 PM PDT

If you're a big fan of the Olympics, today might just be your lucky day. NBC and Adobe have announced the release of two great new apps that will help users get the best content during the big events.

The first is named, creatively enough, NBC Olympics. It gives users news, featured highlights, athlete profiles, results and schedules for all 32 sports, push notifications, and even a feature called Destination London, which gives users a tour of London, the city in which the Olympics will take place this year. As if that wasn't enough, the app has some social functionality, so fans can interact with others all over the country during the Olympics.

NBC and Adobe apparently didn't think one app was enough, so they released NBC Olympics Live Extra, which does exactly as its name suggests. This app gives users a more "as-it-happens" approach, with live streams of every Olympic event, alternating camera angles for specific sports, and even DVR capabilities. NBC is hoping that it will provide the ultimate user experience for Olympic fans.

Both apps are free from the Play Store, so if you're looking for a more in-depth Olympic experience, you can download either (or both) of the apps for yourself. Obviously the Live Extra app will use a lot of data, so we recommend using it over WiFi. The full press release can be found below.

So who else is excited for the Olympics? What's your favorite sport? Drop a comment below!

Press Release

NEW YORK – July 12, 2012 – NBC Olympics, a division of the NBC Sports Group, is launching two apps today, both built by and powered by Adobe (Nasdaq: ADBE), as part of its comprehensive coverage of the London 2012 Olympic Summer Games.

NBC Olympics Live Extra, will allow cable, satellite and telco customers to live stream more than 3,500 hours of content, including all 32 sports, every athletic competition and all 302 medal events. The second app, simply titled NBC Olympics, will provide short-form highlights, TV and online schedules, live results, columns and the new Primetime Companion feature -- the ultimate complementary, second-screen experience for NBC's nightly primetime Olympic broadcasts.

"NBC Olympics Live Extra puts the London Olympic Games into the hands of America's tablet and smartphone user, enabling us to once again use advances in technology to provide the broadest possible access to the thousands of hours of Olympic competition," said Gary Zenkel, President, NBC Olympics. "The NBC Olympics app will be the definitive and most up to date source of information from the London Games, and the exclusive mobile source in the U.S. for London Olympic video highlights. It will also feature live results, dynamically served TV and online listings, and - during NBC primetime - a second screen for enhanced viewing and social interaction for when America again gathers each night for 17 nights to share in the incredible stories from London."

NBC Olympics partnered with Adobe, which built both apps and is powering them through the conclusion of the Games. The NBC Olympics Live Extra and NBC Olympics apps are available on select Android handset and tablet devices within Google Play, and on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

"It's been great working with NBC Olympics to change the way live sporting events are experienced by consumers. NBC is now able to create, deliver, monetize and measure the Olympics across mobile devices – using tools and technologies that make up Adobe's video solutions." said David Wadhwani, senior vice president, Digital Media Business at Adobe. "We're working closely with NBC Olympics and others to ensure viewers have a seamless viewing experience with two easy-to-navigate apps."

Zenkel added, "NBC Olympics is confident that Adobe, a proven technology leader and longtime partner, will deliver the best mobile event application experiences America has ever seen."

The entire Olympics mobile and tablet experiences were built by and are powered by technologies that make up Adobe's Project Primetime, enabling NBC Olympics to create, deliver, verify, monetize and measure the Games across mobile and tablet devices.

NBC OLYMPICS LIVE EXTRA

The NBC Olympics Live Extra app will live stream every athletic competition for the first time ever. In all, the app will live stream more than 3,500 total programming hours, including all 32 sports, the awarding of all 302 medals and event rewinds. NBC Olympics Live Extra will also live stream the Olympic content that airs on the four NBCU cable channels -- NBC Sports Network, MSNBC, CNBC and Bravo.

In another first, NBC Olympics Live Extra will provide multiple concurrent streams for select sports, such as gymnastics (each apparatus), track and field (each event), and tennis (up to five courts). For example, during a session of track and field, instead of viewing only a single feed that moves from event to event, a user can choose to watch a stream dedicated to a specific event, such as the long jump or javelin.

The vast majority of live stream content on NBC Olympics Live Extra will only be available to verified cable, satellite or telco customers. In order to access the live stream content, existing cable, satellite and telco customers should follow these verification procedures (note: customers must subscribe to a video tier that includes both CNBC and MSNBC):

1. Download the NBC Olympics Live Extra app

2. Open the app

3. Tap the "Touch Here & Get Ready" callout

4. Select your cable, satellite or telco provider

5. Enter the username and password that corresponds with your account

6. You are signed in throughout the Games on that device!

Customers with multiple devices should repeat the procedure on each device. Access to this content is free for customers as part of their video subscription -- there is no additional charge. For customers who do not have a username and password, they should contact their cable, satellite or telco provider to create one. More information about the process, including contact information for cable, satellite and telco providers, can be found at: www.nbcolympics.com/liveextra/help.

NBC Olympics Live Extra is available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore. It is also available for free from Google Play on select Android devices or at www.play.google.com.

NBC OLYMPICS

While NBC Olympics Live Extra will be the mobile and tablet home for live stream content, the NBC Olympics app will be the home for everything else Olympics, including short-form highlights, event schedules, TV and online listings, results, athlete profiles, columns and the new Primetime Companion feature.

The Primetime Companion is the ultimate complementary, second-screen experience for NBC's nightly primetime Olympic broadcast. Users can go deeper into the broadcast with trivia, polls, slideshows, videos and athlete bios all synced with what is being presented on NBC. The companion will also allow users to share the primetime experience with friends and family through a series of social tools connected through Facebook and Twitter. Synched to each device's clock, the Primetime Companion will automatically appear when a user opens the app during NBC's primetime broadcast.

NBC Olympics is available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore. It is also available for free from Google Play on select Android devices or at www.play.google.com.

Motorola says Atrix HD to have encrypted bootloader, needed to ‘meet requirements’

Posted: 12 Jul 2012 04:58 AM PDT

You know, you would think that, at this point, Manufacturers would get the point about locking down their bootloaders. It makes devs mad, it makes high-end users mad, and it just seems to be an all around lose-lose situation. Motorola confirmed on their Twitter page that the newly announce Atrix HD would come with an encrypted / locked bootloader, so that it can "meet requirements"... whatever that means.

While Moto followed up saying that you can unlock via an official method, but that method may or may not be released in concurrence with the release of the device itself.

Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III to come in “developer edition” for $599, comes with unlockable bootloader

Posted: 12 Jul 2012 04:43 AM PDT

Now that Verizon has admitted that their iteration of the Samsung Galaxy S III will come with a locked bootloader, there are a lot of users that are very upset... and for good reason. A locked bootloader means saying goodbye to most of the aspects of Android that give it the open source appeal: custom ROMs, custom kernels, and any other outside-the-box development. While there are ways of getting around a locked bootloader, it makes the process a bit like playing with dynamite, matches and a can of hairspray... the results of which can be pretty ugly.

Verizon has responded to outrage, and the result is bittersweet. They will be releasing a "developer version" of the phone, complete with a user-unlockable bootloader, for $599. The bad part? You won't, as far as we know, be able to get it on any kind of new contract price; you'll have to pay full price for the goods. Also, just because it's a developer version doesn't really mean that Verizon actually wants you developing - brick it because you were doing some development / modding, and you're still considered outside the realm of your warranty.

What are your thoughts? Let us know below.
