Rogers officially launches Sony Xperia Ion, starting from $49!

Posted: 17 Jul 2012 02:45 PM PDT

Do you know about the Sony Xperia Ion AT&T is offering at the moment? The device finally landed in Canada via nation's one of the largest mobile network known as Rogers Wireless. But we didn't think Rogers is going to be that generous with it because they are offering this marvellous phone for a very low price tag. With a three-year plan, you can get it for just $49.99 though if you are planning to go for a two-year plan, it will set you back at $449, maybe that's how thing works in Canada. Though if you got some good cash in your hand, then you can get it for $549.99 outright.

It features a 4.6-inch HD display, Snapdragon S3 processor, a 12MP Sony Exmor R rear camera, though the only drawback is Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but it will be receiving an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich soon.

Anyone in Canada planning to grab this device from Rogers? Tell us about it in the comment box below.

Toshiba AT200 and AT300 tablets to receive Jelly Bean soon?

Posted: 17 Jul 2012 02:41 PM PDT

Toshiba is one of the leading brands in the world of technology, especially when we talk about laptops. They made an entry in Android tablet market a few years ago, and they really made a blast with tablets like the Toshiba Excite 10. It's a gorgeous tablet with a lot of potential under the hood. When Google launched the Nexus 7 with Jelly Bean, from that day, all Android tablet users are dreaming about only one thing, "when their tablet will get some Jelly Bean?".

Though we don't know about others but according to TabletGuide, they receive confirmation from Toshiba that Toshiba AT200 and AT300 will be upgraded to the Android 4.1 a.k.a Jelly Bean. The update will be over-the-air (OTA), but just like every announcement, Toshiba failed to give any specific date, but we can expect it in coming weeks or maybe months.

We want all the tablets to run on Android 4.1 because they all deserve it, though we hope that Toshiba Excite 10 and Excite 10 LE will see the desired update soon. Any Toshiba tablet users out there? Tell us what are your thoughts about it in the comment box below.

Fujitsu announces an Android phone for elderly people

Posted: 17 Jul 2012 02:37 PM PDT

In past, several companies have launched products which are designed especially for kids, like the MEEP. The good things about such gadgets are that they are easy to use and have a user-friendly interface. Though the Japanese brand known as Fujitsu cares about elderly people, as they launched a phone which is designed for senior citizens, as it's really hard for them to get use to with a normal smartphone just because of the complications.

Fujitsu is solving the complications by offering Android in a simplified form, like featuring larger text and buttons and only vertical scrolling, which will make it very easy to use. Fujitsu said that they had worked together with Google to design this device. It's known as the Fujitsu F-12D, and it's part of Fujitsu's RakuRaku line, and "rakuraku" means "easy". The display is entirely different from a typical touchscreen display, as elderly people face problem with such displays. Check out the video below:

Jelly Bean is the safest version of Android yet

Posted: 17 Jul 2012 02:01 PM PDT

Google made history at this year Google I/O by launching the best version of Android OS so far, which is known as the Jelly Bean a.k.a Android 4.1. The operating system is not only designed to give smooth and best experience, but also to protect users from malicious installations and other such attacks. It features industry-standard defence, also Jelly Bean is the first OS to properly feature ASLR, and it's defined below:

"Address space layout randomization (ASLR) is a computer security method which involves randomly arranging the positions of key data areas, usually including the base of the executable and position of libraries, heap, and stack, in a process's address space."

Serial hackers are saying that Jelly Bean is really hard to exploit, but if we talk about iOS 6, Jelly Bean is pretty far behind from it in ASLR implementation. The latest release of Google's Android mobile operating system is designed to protect users against hack attacks that install malware on their phones.

"As long as there's anything that's not randomized, then it (ASLR) doesn't work, because as long as the attacker knows something is in the same spot, they can use that to break out of everything else, Jelly Bean is going to be the first version of Android that has full ASLR and DEP, so it's going to be pretty difficult to write exploits for that." Charlie Miller, a veteran smartphone hacker and principal research consultant at security firm Accuvant, told Ars Technica.

Well, the good thing here is that Jelly Bean is the best Android OS available at the moment, and I hope all the OEM's will start updating their devices to it. Tell us what you think about Jelly Bean in the comment box below.

Samsung reportedly cancels 64GB Galaxy S III

Posted: 17 Jul 2012 01:33 PM PDT

When the GSIII was announced a few months ago, it was supposed to come in 3 different variants: 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. But the 64GB seems to be removed from the line of great devices because a UK retailer has cancelled all their pre-orders.

One customer told us that the retailer explained that his his order could not be processed because:

Samsung  has decided not to release the unit.

Looks like Samsung has decided that the 64GB model of the S III hasn't generated enough user interest and manufacturing it won't be worth it. That's not surprising, considering the device's microSD card slot, which allows for far cheaper memory expansion.

Just remember: at this point in time, this is just rumor, and is not official. We will release more details as they become available to us! So, were you planning on the the 64GB variation of the GSIII? Let us know in the comments below!

Smule introduces AutoRap for Android

Posted: 17 Jul 2012 01:01 PM PDT

Brought to you by the creators of Songify and Magic Panio, Smule proudly launched AutoRap onto Google Play. AutoRap takes your speech and coverts it into a funky jam. You are automatically given a few free "beats", but you can unlock more with points you can earn! And let's not forget to mention it's FREE!

After trying this app, I have to say I am impressed with the graphics when you're recording your voice to make your own song. I just wish there was more to it, like a way to import your songs into it would be great! Also, the store is a little overwhelming with so many things you can do and buy, but it gets better after all the pop-ups are gone.

Overall I think they have made this app a success in turning my (crappy rap voice) into almost a cool sounding song! What do you think about the app? Have you tried it? Let us know in the comments.

Jelly Bean ROM available for Galaxy S III in form of CyangonMod, running in early stage of development

Posted: 17 Jul 2012 09:53 AM PDT

The early preview build of CM10 for the GSIII has been released, and is now ready for you to try out Jelly Bean on that awesome Galaxy S III of yours! It's in a very early state, so you won't be seeing a lot of CM9′s features merged over yet, but hopefully soon.

Here are the known issues so far (as stated by Cyanogen):

  • Overlay for UI (extra butter)- We're waiting on CodeAurora to publish, UI is a little janky.
  • Camera preview turns green during animations and may crash.
  • All the things (LOL)

Remember guys, these are very early preview builds, so DON'T expect perfection. The AT&T ROM can be found here, the T-Mobile ROM here, and the Sprint ROM here. Be sure to follow the exact instructions, and PLEASE MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING.

Be sure to check out our how-to here.

So what do you think about CM10? Will you be updating to Jelly Bean now or waiting a little while? Let us know in the comments below.

LG Optimus Vu leaked for Verizon

Posted: 17 Jul 2012 06:00 AM PDT

We got a look at the LG Optimus Vu when it was announced right before MWC, running Gingerbread at the time. Now an image of the Vu has been leaked, and it's sporting a Verizon logo. Rumor has it that the Verizon Vu is running Ice Cream Sandwich, which is a relief. We're not sure if the newer Android version makes up for the sharp corners and unsightly large bezel, but only time will tell.

The Verizon Optimus Vu will reportedly be rocking the following:

  • 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 with Adreno 220 GPU
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 32GB storage
  • 8MP rear camera
  • 1.3MP front-facing camera
  • included stylus

As for the stylus, there's no word on whether LG has plans to implement any software to compete with Samsung's S-Pen. That being said, what do you think about this phone? Should LG stay away from the phablet market? Let us know in the comments!

Galaxy S III update removes universal search as a “precautionary measure”

Posted: 17 Jul 2012 05:30 AM PDT

Samsung Galaxy S III owners on AT&T and Sprint had a few small updates that disabled the device's ability to use the Google search bar to look for items on the phone itself. Samsung has issued a statement for this situation:

Samsung has updated the software for the Galaxy S III as a precautionary measure to ensure that U.S. consumers may enjoy using our innovative products without interruption.

Even though Samsung never mentioned the drawn out legal battle with Apple, one of the patents Apple said Samsung infringed upon was the universal search feature. There's no word on when or if the T-Mobile and Verizon variants will receive similar updates. While the universal search feature may not be an integral part of the Galaxy S III, it is a handy thing to have, and hopefully it won't be long before AT&T and Sprint Galaxy S III owners will have it back.

Have you already updated and lost your universal search feature? Are you going to postpone your updates until we hear a little more about the situation? Let us know in the comments below!

Posted: 17 Jul 2012 05:00 AM PDT

Smartphone Delivers Innovative All-in-One Experience With the Perfect Blend of Work and Play Features

Consumers are demanding larger smartphone screen sizes. In fact, a recent T-Mobile survey2 showed 77 percent of consumers prefer a device with a 4.5-inch or larger display rather than a smaller screen. The Galaxy Note speaks directly to that demand with a 5.3-inch HD Super AMOLED™ touch screen - the largest screen on a T-Mobile® smartphone. The device is elegantly designed to handle both business and home tasks with ease.

The Galaxy Note with Premium Suite provides a range of productivity-enhancing features, such as the S Pen™, S Note, S Memo™ and Polaris Office. Now T-Mobile customers can write notes, to-do lists and annotate documents; share ideas and edited content; and create documents, presentations and spreadsheets to maximize efficiency while on the go. S Note helps to professionalize communications by providing templates for seven commonly used documents such as an idea note, travel notes, diary entry, meeting notes and recipes. S Note also allows you to import and annotate a PDF file and convert dictated or handwritten memos to text with the Continual Voice Input and Handwriting-to-Text features. With S Memo, Galaxy Note users have one-touch access to creating a typewritten, handwritten or voice dictated memo; researching information during creation; and adding an image.

The Galaxy Note also has the SAFE (Samsung Approved for Enterprise™) designation, which means it has a full suite of enterprise-ready features and capabilities, including comprehensive IT policy support for top-tier mobile device management (MDM) providers, on-device AES256-bit encryption, enhanced support for Microsoft Exchange, as well as integrated support for a range of virtual private network (VPN) solutions. The Galaxy Note also provides Wi-Fi Calling capabilities and, with a qualifying rate plan, can act as a Smartphone Mobile HotSpot for up to five devices.

"In addition to larger screens, today customers demand more from their devices - from having safeguarded access to corporate email and other productivity features to being able to rely on a speedy network for streaming content," said Andrew Morrison, vice president, product management, T-Mobile USA. "With the unique and highly innovative Galaxy Note in our lineup, we are even better equipped to help our customers strike the perfect balance as they juggle both professional and personal activities."

The Samsung Galaxy Note also offers the T-Mobile 4G Pro App Pack, an aggregation of key applications, such as Dropbox, Evernote, Square, TripIt, CamScanner and LinkedIn, that can reduce the complexity and effort associated with finding and downloading business-related applications. By providing an easy path to cloud services such as Dropbox and Evernote, T-Mobile helps professionals easily store and access the documents, files, images and notes that will help them better manage their work from virtually anywhere.

Featuring a snappy Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ S3 Processor with 1.5 Ghz Dual-Core CPUs, the Galaxy Note provides customers with incredible 4G experiences, making it the perfect all-in-one device to maximize efficiency and productivity, in addition to fun. The Galaxy Note offers a variety of entertainment experiences, such as T-Mobile TV in mobile HD3 for watching live TV programming, Samsung Media Hub for renting and buying the latest movies and TV shows, and Google Play Music for streaming and purchasing music. The Galaxy Note also features an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, to capture pictures and HD videos to share with friends, family and social networks.

The magnitude of the variation is measurable and is affected by the number of interviews and the level of the percentages expressing the results. In this particular study, the chances are 95 in 100 that a survey result does not vary, plus or minus, by more than 3.1 percentage points from the result that would be obtained if interviews had been conducted with all persons in the universe represented by the sample.
