Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III Pre-Order Deliveries Moved up to June 6th

Posted: 03 Jul 2012 04:06 PM PDT

If you pre-ordered the Samsung Galaxy S III from Verizon, you can check your order status to find out when your device is expected to ship and arrive at your doorstep. The shipping of this device has been delayed numerous times by Verizon, with most customers showing a ship a ship date of July 9th with others showing a day or two after. With the official launch date set to be on July 10th, it would be easy to assume that some customers would be a little put off if they’re receiving their pre-ordered device after the official launch.

Today, Verizon has informed some customers that they will ship their device as early as July 5th (this Thursday) with a delivery by the 6th. Sadly, there’s no news whether this pertains to every pre-order or just certain pre-orders. Either way, the earlier Verizon gets these devices in their customers hands, the better. Any of our readers have their Verizon Galaxy S III pre-ordered?

Android 4.0.4 Rolling out to Galaxy Tab 7.7 Users in Austria and Germany

Posted: 03 Jul 2012 03:34 PM PDT

Users from Europe, Austria and Germany owning the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 (GT-P6800) tablet are reportedly receiving the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich software update. The new firmware build is IMM76D XXLQ1, it is 237 MB in size and it is now available via OTA and Samsung Kies software. I find it great that it’s pushing out to users through an OTA update as Samsung usually tends to make their updates available only through their Kies software. Any of our readers in those countries receive the update yet?

Google Jelly Bean Statue Suffers from Over-Heating Issues, One Jelly Bean Stolen So Far

Posted: 03 Jul 2012 03:27 PM PDT

Remember the famous Jelly Bean Android statue out on Google HQ’s front lawn? The statue seems to be suffering from over-heating issues which is causing the top part of the head to easily pop off. This is creating easy opportunities for bandits to nab some jelly bean souvenirs. Apparently, once the heat gets in the translucent head, it creates a green-house effect which then causes some of its parts to melt due to the high temperatures inside the statue. The statue’s artist is already working on fixing the issue and Google’s own Dan Morrill politely asks the public, “Please don't steal our jelly beans.”

The Jelly Bean statue has been coned off to further help prevent looters and keep Google’s proud statue safe. Head over to the source link for Dan Morill’s official statement regarding the issue.

Motorola Photon Q Passes Through the FCC

Posted: 03 Jul 2012 03:07 PM PDT

Remember the Motorola Photon 4G from Sprint? Its slide-out QWERTY keyboard cousin just passed through FCC and should be available on Sprint very soon paired with LTE bands. The phone will be dubbed the Motorola Photon Q and will also sport an NFC chip. Other rumored specs for the phone includes the popular Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor paired with a qHD (960 x 540) resolution screen rumored to be within the 4″-4.3″ range.

I know there are still some physical QWERTY fans out there. Any of our readers thinking about picking up a quality slide-out QWERTY keyboard phone?

Nexus 7 Tablet Goes Through Its First Teardown

Posted: 03 Jul 2012 10:22 AM PDT

The fancy new Nexus 7 has been put through its teardown test and passed with flying colors, thanks to the gang at iFixit. iFixit decided to take some time out and show the world what it really wants to know: what’s really inside the Nexus 7 tablet? It definitely delivered in a major way by showing a detailed step-by-step process of tearing down and inspecting the nooks and crannies of the device. Among the things found inside are a ton of goodies inside including a huge 4,326 mAh battery (which was surprisingly easy to remove by the way) and 1GB of DDR RAM.

As exciting as the detailed photos are, most consumers want to know the second biggest mystery, which is how repairable is the Nexus 7? Well, the gang at iFixit gave the device a repairability score of 7 out of 10— making it fairly easy to repair should anything go awry or wrong for prospective owners. There’s much more detail in iFixit’s session with the Nexus 7, so hit the break to see all the photos and descriptions of the different parts.
