In addition to the pre-installed applications from Samsung, users can browse the web and enjoy any applications from Google Play or Samsung Apps stores. If users are not sure which app to download, 'S Suggest' will help them recommend a new photo editing app or fun game to download.

Share your images anywhere, anytime

Samsung Galaxy Note II officially debuts

Posted: 29 Aug 2012 10:10 AM PDT

Finally, the Samsung Galaxy Note II has gone from rumored to official as the handset/tablet is announced at IFA.  Specifications for the device are exactly what we’ve been expecting these last few weeks and should put the Note II firmly in the running for top Android of 2012.

Powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the Galaxy Note features a 5.5-inch 1280 x 720 Super AMOLED screen, a quad-core 1.6GHz processor, 2GB RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, front-facing 1.9-megapixel camera, and a 3100mAh battery.  Consumers will have choice of storage capacities (16GB, 32GB, or 64GB) and a pair of colors to pick from in Mountain White and Titanium Grey.

Getting beyond just the specs, the Galaxy Note II features some new and improved functionality.  The S Pen gets a new, thicker and longer design which is said to be more ergonomic.   Samsung has included a feature called “Air View” which lets users hover the S Pen over images, emails, and other items to preview things without having to completely open them up.

Much like Popup Play on the Galaxy S III, the Galaxy Note features a “Popup Notes” which lets users put a note over the screen, atop other apps.  There’s also a “Quick Command” option that reveals a menu of quick commands for sending contacts email, calls, searching, and more.  Wrapping things up, there’s a Screen Recorder that lets the user record things as they happen on the screen and share with others.

Pricing for the Samsung Galaxy Note II  is unknown at this point, however we’re sure it will leak once we get closer to carrier announcements and deployment. As far as availability for the Galaxy Note II, the device ships to Europe in October, however we don’t know just yet if/when a U.S. carrier will announce support.

In fact, here’s what Samsung has to say in regards to a U.S model.

"Samsung Mobile is planning a U.S. version of Galaxy Note II, which will be available later in 2012. Building on the success of the original Galaxy Note, we're confident that the Galaxy Note II continues to redefine what consumers should expect from their smartphone and delivers a powerful, innovative and unique experience. Exact timing and retail channel availability is not being announced at this time, we will continue to share information as it becomes available" – Samsung

Archos debuts 7-inch Android-powered GamePad

Posted: 29 Aug 2012 07:39 AM PDT

Archos today announced their next Android-powered device, the 7-inch GampePad.  Featuring a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, Mali 400MP quad-core GPU, 8GB internal storage, HDMI, microSD, and Wi-Fi connectivity, the device looks to pull in some of that PS Vita and Nintendo DS crowd.

Powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the GamePad feature gaming controls and buttons and also comes with full support for the Google Play Store and apps.  This means all the games you’ve come to enjoy on Android phones and tablets will be supported and work well.

Price for the GamePad is listed at under 150€, or approximately $190 and the device arrives in late October.  Is this something you would consider for the upstart gamer in your life?  How about for yourself?

ARCHOS combines physical gaming controls with a full Android-powered tablet to create the GamePad

Denver, CO – August 29, 2012 - ARCHOS, an award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, is proud to announce their first gaming tablet. This new type of tablet, the GamePad, combines gaming controls with Android for a full tablet and gaming experience in one. Gamers will not only have access to all their favorite games, they will also have access to email, Internet, apps and more through one device.

The GamePad features a 7-inch, capacitive screen, physical control buttons and analog sticks. This Google certified tablet has full access to Google PlayTM for the tens of thousands of games available, runs a dual-core processor @ 1.5 GHz combined with a Mali 400mp quad-core GPU. In addition, the GamePad includes automatic game recognition and mapping tools – patented technology to ensure control compatibility with every advanced Android game.

Until now, tablets provided gamers with touch controls that lacked response and compatibility for their advanced games, providing a disappointing gaming experience. As one of the main tablet uses, there is a strong need for a tablet that does more for gaming. Thanks to the complete touch and physical controls of the ARCHOS GamePad, Gamers can enhance their experience starting at the end of October 2012 for less than 150€.

"When Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, was first released they included game controller support within the framework and that is when we decided to build the GamePad," says Henri Crohas, ARCHOS Founder and CEO.

Some leading game developers have already embraced the physical controller support that was introduced with ICS rendering their apps compatible with the physical controls of the GamePad or with game controllers plugged into tablets or phones.

However many games originally did not include physical control mapping, which is why ARCHOS developed their mapping and game recognition tool; a patented technology that allows any virtual controls to be mapped the GamePad's physical control buttons.

"Thanks to the mapping and automatic game recognition systems included on the GamePad, we already have over a thousand android games compatible with the ARCHOS GamePad's physical controls, including back catalog titles that originally didn't include physical controls," continued Crohas.

ATTENTION DEVELOPERS
Over the past six months, ARCHOS has been discussing the GamePad with leading Android game developers around the world to make their games compatible with the GamePad's physical controls and now we invite others to participate.

Developers interested in getting their current and upcoming games mapped for the ARCHOS GamePad can contact GamePad@archos.com.

Photos of new HTC tablet leaked, to be announced at IFA?

Posted: 28 Aug 2012 08:55 PM PDT

Our friends over at DroidDog just got a tip from a Twitter account, @evleaks, with images of a 10-inch HTC tablet. This isn’t the first mention of an HTC tablet, but these are the first images of such a device.

Based on the leaked photos, all we know is that it looks to be very thin, and packing a 10.1-inch display. But that’s not the most interesting part.

As you can see, the bezel on this tablet isn’t exactly the same width on all sides. It’s actually quite a thin bezel, save for the one side that apparently attaches to what we’re guessing is an HDMI dock of sorts. It’s definitely not something you see everyday, which might mean HTC is trying to separate itself from the other competitors in the tablet market.

HTC might release details on the tablet at IFA later this week, but only time will tell. At any rate, does this come as a surprise to you? Are you glad that HTC is getting back into the tablet market? Drop a comment below!

IDs, loyalty cards, and third-party passes coming to Google Wallet

Posted: 28 Aug 2012 05:39 PM PDT

Robin Dua, head of project management for Google Wallet, talked about some new features that Google Wallet users might see in the near future. Dua said that he wants Google Wallet users to have the ability to store gift cards, travel itinerary, receipts, tickets and much more. In a nutshell, anything and everything that eliminates the need for a physical wallet.

Personally, I’m still trying to weigh the pros and cons of even using Google Wallet. One major con might pop up in the event that your phone gets stolen, with all your credit cards and financial information at the thief’s disposal. Likewise, what would happen in the event that your Google account gets hacked? Of course, these are just speed bumps on the road to mobile payments

Back to the rumors, Dua didn't give a specific date for all the new features, but hopefully we will be seeing them soon. At any rate, stay tuned to AndroidGuys for all the latest news on Google Wallet!

So are you excited to hear about the future of Google Wallet? Anyone else still skeptical about Google Wallet in general? Drop a comment below!
