Amazon launching a tablet with dual-sides?

Posted: 30 Aug 2012 12:32 PM PDT

Big companies like Amazon loves to come out with innovations that will probably blow your mind of, like they launched the Kindle Fire, a cheap tablet with specs better than a bunch of other Android tablets with a hefty price tag. Now it seems that Amazon is planning to come out with something that’s gonna hit us like a bomb, again. The Image you can see below is a patent filling, which tells us that Amazon is working on a tablet with dual-sides, emerging both e-ink and LCD display into one device.

According to the patent filling:

"A device might alternatively utilize at least one camera to determine which side of the device is facing the user, and might activate the display on that side of the device to convey content. A device might display notifications on an edge of the device, such that a current orientation of the device might be less important." "An electronic device including two or more display elements can provide enhanced functionality with improved rates of power consumption.A user can cause information that does not change rapidly to be provided or moved to a relatively static display element, such as an electronic ink display, which enables that information to be displayed for a period of time with little additional power consumption."

Whatever is Amazon planning, its big. The big press event is around the corner where Amazon will launch the successor to Kindle Fire, and we might also see this two-face monster as well, so fingers crossed. By the way, what do you think about such tablet? Tell us about it in the comment box below.

Here’s the first look at next Kindle Fire

Posted: 30 Aug 2012 12:03 PM PDT

Amazon has an event scheduled for September 6 where it’s widely assumed they will debut the new Kindle Fire.  Seeing as how the initial model is completely sold out and the Amazon Appstore now has European support, things certainly appear to be lining up for something big.

The Verge has received a pair of images for what is said to be the next Kindle Fire.  Unfortunately, only one of those pictures is online right now as the source has requested they sit tight. So what do we see here?

For starters, the screen aspect and keyboard size suggest a 7-inch 1280×800 display however that’s just a guess.  When held in landscape mode we see a front-facing camera, something that did not make its way into the first model.

According to The Verge, the second image shows a more streamlined user interface with “less chrome” however they are not certain if this is final design.  What’s more, they also indicate that a 10-inch model is expected at the announcement next week.  As to pricing and release time frame, that’s still a big mystery.

Yay or Nay?

What do you think of the new Kindle Fire?  Sure, it’s a first-take impression, but what do you like or dislike?

Game Synopsis:

Beats Audio building a smartphone, TV, and music service?

Posted: 30 Aug 2012 10:24 AM PDT

HTC and Beats Audio formed a relationship last year when the Taiwanese giant announced the HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio.  Recently, word on the street that that HTC and Beats Audio might split up, but then HTC came out and cleared the air, saying that everything is cool.

Now our friends over at BGR are reporting that Beats Audio is planning to launch a phone with its very own branding, and it will be manufactured by HTC. And that’s not it, they are also coming out with a TV, and a music service to compete with iTunes and Google Music.

The smartphone will run on Android OS with custom Beats Audio UI, and this device will be completely different from current HTC devices with Beats Audio integration, because it will be a “pure” Beats Audio phone, featuring all the media features.

But in the end, the question is, is it worth it? Beats Audio got a good hold on headphones/earbuds section, but jumping into smartphones is probably not their cup of tea. Also, as we are familiar with Dr.Dre’s stuff; it’s never cheap so I am sure the phone will cost an arm or a leg.

Anyway, tell us what do you think about this, it’s still a rumor and not something to put your money on, but if it’s real, would you buy a Beats smartphone? Tell us about it in the comment box below.

Huawei is in Berlin this week, showing off the new custom user interface, Emotion UI. Built with consumer interaction in mind, the design is said to be simple to use and provides a number of functions to make a more enjoyable experience.  You’ll see from the video below that there’s plenty of customization, widget control, profiles, themes and more in store for Huawei users..

Once IFA is over, Huawei will gather feedback from consumers and industry partners and continue development. Interested parties can download a Chinese version of Emotion UI starting today however the English version doesn’t arrive until later this year (Q4).

Huawei Showcases Proprietary User Interface for

Android Devices at IFA 2012

Sneak preview of Emotion UI demonstrates Huawei's ambitions

Berlin, Germany, August 30, 2012 – Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today launched a sneak preview of the Huawei Emotion UI at IFA 2012. An Android-based user interface (UI), Emotion UI will play a critical role in cementing the strength of Huawei's smartphone portfolio. Reinforcing Huawei's user-centric design philosophy, "Design with Empathy", Emotion UI is built on a clear understanding of how consumers interact with their smartphones and what they expect from these interactions.

"Emotion UI is a reflection of Huawei's empathic design philosophy – built by consumers for consumers. In designing this user interface, we spoke to consumers to find out what they wanted from their smartphones, the type of experiences they sought when interacting with their devices and what we, as consumers ourselves, want from our smartphones. The team was very conscious about placing people before technology. We believe that it is only through listening to what consumers want and need that we can truly develop products that they will love," said Dennis Poon, Global UI Design Director, Huawei Device.

The Emotion UI showcase at IFA 2012 provided a glimpse of what consumers can expect from the final product. Emotion UI improves usability and provides a much simpler navigational experience for users. It enables users to customize the design and functions of their smartphone home page to suit their personal needs, in addition to simplifying folder functions for easier management of applications. "Me Widget" allows users to combine all the information and functions they need in a single, customizable widget while "Smart Tutorial" acts as a comprehensive support tool to help entry-level users get up to speed with their phone's features in the shortest time possible.

Post-IFA, Emotion UI will enter the next phase of its development, driven further by consumer wants and needs. From August 30, 2012, Huawei will call for consumer and user feedback for use in the UI design and development process. Consumers can download the Chinese version of Emotion UI via http://ui.vmall.com/emotiondownload.php from August 30 and provide feedback by emailingemotion@huawei.com. The English version of the UI will be available for download in Q4, 2012. Consumers can watch a demo video of Emotion UI at www.youtube.com/HuaweiDeviceCo or access more information via the Emotion UI Facebook page www.facebook.com/Huaweiemui.

Amazon sells out of Kindle Fire one week before press event

Posted: 30 Aug 2012 07:11 AM PDT

Amazon has officially announced that the Android-based Kindle Fire has sold out with one week to go before their September 6 press event.  Sounds like all the proof we need that a new model or two is set to hit in the very short term.  The current Kindle Fire has done quite for Amazon, having now captured  22% of the U.S. tablet market.  Not too shabby for a nine-month run, eh?

"We're grateful to the millions of customers who have made Kindle Fire the most successful product launch in the history of Amazon," said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com Founder and CEO. "This has been a big year for digital products on Amazon—all of the top 10 sellers on Amazon.com since Kindle Fire launched just less than a year ago are digital products. Kindle Fire is sold out, but we have an exciting roadmap ahead—we will continue to offer our customers the best hardware, the best prices, the best customer service, the best cross-platform interoperability, and the best content ecosystem."
