Opera has pushed out a new version (7.5) of its Opera Mini for Android web browser. The key new feature this time around is the what Opera calls the "Smart Page" which provides fast and easy access to updates of what's going on in your social network. On top of that, it also offers personalized news updates and suggestions based on your preferences. The new release also boasts more updates to the Turbo Mode, which compresses websites on Opera's servers, and saves you precious MBs, GBs, time, and money.

Rhapsody Android app gets an update

The new update for Rhapsody brings it to 3.0.1. With this update we get some new features:

  • The ability to download individual albums and tracks for offline playback
  • Decide where on your device to store the files (internal, fixed SD, removable SD)
  • The previous update (2.2.4) increased playback speeds by 30%

Dyzplastic debuts Clear and Red collectible figures ahead of Sept 24 launch

Dyzplastic has given us another two Android collectible figures to look forward to ahead of their September 24 release.  Today see us learning of Clear, the transparent Android that also houses a small Android keychain.  Also coming in Series 3 is a model with one solid color which happens to be a very distinct shade of red (think Google).  According to Dyzplastic, the new series is set to arrive in less than a week and will be available online and in various retail outlets.

Clearly something is special about this Android. Pop off his head and you have yourself a micro Android!  This little guy has a built-in keychain attachment and features an articulated head and arms, and legs that move enough to let him sit up unaided. 2 for 1, can’t go wrong! 1/16 ratio.

Continuing the solid color tradition, series 03 has us seeing a very specific shade of red! Are you sensing a color pattern yet? Hmmmm.. Red comes in a 2/16 ratio.

Dick’s Sporting Goods debuts official Android app

Dick’s Sporting Goods today announced that it recently began offering an official Android application. Arriving some time late last week, the free app lets users find a nearby store, shop for products, and follow Dick’s on social networks. Like other retail-based apps, this one also provides access to loyalty programs (ScoreCard Rewards Program), and offers barcode scanning for news, prices, and reviews.

T-Mobile Galaxy S III scores The Avengers as virtual pre-loaded film

T-Mobile customers who pick up the Samsung Galaxy S III will soon be able to enjoy a free download of the 3rd highest grossing film of all time, Marvel’s The Avengers.  Available for free in the Samsung Media Hub on September 25, the movie will also be offered to those who already own the Galaxy S III.

"We are excited to partner with T-Mobile on this groundbreaking promotion and provide the highest-quality film experience for 'Marvel's The Avengers' to Galaxy S III smartphone owners," commented Dan Cohen, executive vice president, pay television and digital, Disney-ABC Domestic Television.

In addition the new Avengers news, Galaxy S III owners will be also be able to share licensed content (TV shows, movies) from Samsung Media Hub, wirelessly with AllShare Cast to any HDMI-capable TV.  In order to do so, consumers must pick up a new accessory, the Samsung AllShare Cast Wireless Hub, which will run $99.99 and be made available in T-Mobile retail stores beginning Sept. 24.

Roku announces ‘Play on Roku’ update for streaming photos and music

Roku has a new version of its Android app available in the Google Play Store that allows for streaming of music and photos from your handset.  The feature is called Play on Roku and it lets users view individual images, slideshows, single tracks, playlists, and more.  The app, which basically turns your phone or tablet into a Roku remote, is free to download and can be found in all countries where Roku players are sold.

'Play on Roku' Lets Customers Stream Photos and Music from iOS or Android Mobile Devices to Roku Streaming Players

SARATOGA, Calif. – Sept. 20, 2012 – Many Roku® customers take photos and download music on smartphones or tablets for easy access anytime, and anywhere. For these customers, Roku today announced updates to the Roku mobile app that include Play on Roku, a feature that allows customers to stream photos and music from a mobile device wirelessly to a Roku streaming player. The Roku mobile app –­­ which essentially turns a smartphone or tablet into a Roku remote control – is now also available in all countries where Roku players are sold, including the U.K., Canada and Ireland.

Photos streamed on TV using Play on Roku can be viewed individually using a swiping gesture on the mobile device, or in automatic slide show mode. When music is streamed using Play on Roku, a screen saver with the song title, artist, album name and cover art will appear on the TV while the song plays. Photo slide shows can also be viewed with music streaming at the same time. Play on Roku is compatible with MP3 and M4A audio files and JPG and PNG image files.

With the Roku mobile app, customers can control their Roku player without using the included IR remote. Additionally, customers can:

MetroPCS adds ZTE Anthem 4G to Android roster

MetroPCS has added yet another Android smartphone to its burgeoning roster, tapping the ZTE Anthem 4G for release over the coming weeks.
