Sprint to offer $200 Optimus G on November 9

Posted: 15 Oct 2012 04:56 PM PDT

Sprint, coming just hours after AT&T and their Optimus G announcement, have come out with pricing and a launch date for the quad-core smartphone.  Look for their version to arrive on November 9 with the same $199.99 price tag, with a two-year service agreement.  The handset, which features  a 4.7-inch 128-x768 IPS HD display, 2GB RAM, 2100mAh battery, and 13-megapixel camera, should do quite well for the Now Network. Like AT&T, Sprint, too, will be offering pre-order sales for the Optimus G.  If you’re interested in picking one of these up for yourself, you can start paying for it as soon as November 1.

T-Mobile roadmap leaked, Android goodies in store

Posted: 15 Oct 2012 09:23 AM PDT

I love the smell of a leaked roadmap in the morning. The guys over at TmoNews have gotten their hands on what looks to be a T-Mobile roadmap for October and November, and Android certainly has a presence on the list. So without further ado, let’s jump right into it.

First up is the LG Optimus L9, which was announced last week. We’ve been waiting on a release date, and if the roadmap is any indication, we’ll see the L9 hit Magenta stores on Halloween.

Also launching on the 31st is the Huawei Summit, which will probably bring mid-range specs and a smaller display to the lineup.

Buried amid all the new releases is a familiar face: the Galaxy S2. Apparently T-Mobile will be launching the device in a gray color on October 29th, which might appeal to a few more people.

Finally, there’s something on the list that’s called the Samsung Toba. It’s unclear exactly what this device will be, although it’s possible that it’s the Galaxy Note II, or perhaps another Samsung tablet. Whatever it is, it’s launching on November 7th.

So, who else is excited about T-Mobile’s fall lineup so far? Anyone planning on picking up an Optimus L9 when it drops? Let us know in the comments!

Sony Nexus X caught in the wild?

Posted: 15 Oct 2012 08:40 AM PDT

With all the crazy Nexus rumors going around lately, we’ve pretty much thrown out the rule book on what to expect. But even still, the plot thickens just a bit with this latest leak. The image above is what’s being reported as Sony’s Nexus device, and is being dubbed the Nexus X. The name certainly makes sense, and it’s not the first time we’v  heard of a Sony Nexus device. At the moment, all we have to go on are the photos and the name, but we expect to see some specs leak out soon enough. It is a bit trippy to see a Sony device with no Xperia branding or Timescape UI, but we’re not complaining.

The back of the NX looks to be plastic at the bottom with a Sony logo, and soft touch plastic as we move closer to the camera and Google branding. On the left spine of the device, we can see that familiar 3-pin dock connector that’s been found on all the Nexus devices to date. The display looks a bit narrow, but screen size is unknown at this point.

Ironically, the two photos of the device were apparently taken with a Galaxy Nexus. Again, the photos are nice, but we’re taking this with a grain of salt until some more evidence pops up. At the rate we’re going, every OEM will have a Nexus device leaked by the end of the month.

So, what do you think of Sony’s rumored Nexus device? What OEM would you like to see jump into the Nexus ring? Drop a comment below!

LG talks up Android 4.1 updates for select models

Posted: 15 Oct 2012 07:11 AM PDT

With LG set to release its new flagship device, the Optimus G, consumers are going to wonder if or when the quad-core monster will see an Android 4.1 updates. According to the hardware maker, that handset will get its Jelly Bean update in December.  It’s worth noting, of course, that this is for the Korean model and not the AT&T or Sprint edition.  That said, it should not be all that long before these two get their respective 4.1 fix.

CNBC: Japanese carrier SoftBank to acquire 70 percent stake in Sprint

Posted: 14 Oct 2012 05:55 PM PDT

Japanese carrier SoftBank is expected to announce a $20 billion deal on Monday which will see them controlling a 70% stake in Sprint.  CNBC is reporting that the deal is all but wrapped up and comes hot on the heels of rumors that surfaced just last week.  Well, hardly rumors, when you consider that Sprint came out and said that the two were in talks.  The deal, which has been accepted by the boards of both companies, amounts to approximately $8 billion worth of shares from Sprint and another $12 billion from its shareholders.
