Doxie Go review

Posted: 19 Nov 2012 12:17 PM PST

Doxie Go is a unique type of scanner in that it lets you scan and save your documents while on the go, making them immediately available in multiple capacities.  Moreover, it’s a sheet-fed scanner that allows users to scan photos, receipts, documents, and other items and store them in a variety of manners. Prefer to keep your files stored on a SD card? No problem. Want to put them in the cloud (Evernote, Dropbox, etc) and share with others? Done. Want to wait until you sync up with the PC? Who are we to say no?

Google pens deal with music publishers in Europe to bring 5.5 million new tracks to Play Music

Posted: 19 Nov 2012 11:37 AM PST

Google’s been busy in the music arena lately, doing everything from signing new deals involving content to bringing features out to different countries around the world. We’ve seen gapless playback, music matching (in some countries), and now a slew of new music – 5.5 million new tracks, to be specific – thanks to a new European music deal.

The new deal brings new music to 35 different countries, and have prices similar to Amazon and Apple (according to reports). This will hopefully help Google up it’s public-facing view of their market environment.

Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Social calendar app UpTo comes to Android

Posted: 19 Nov 2012 10:42 AM PST

After having become one of the more popular apps of its kind on iOS, UpTo has brought its social-based calendar to Android. With this free title, users can look ahead to the future and see not only what they have on the agenda, but also what their co-workers, friends and family members will be doing. How? Magic.  Well, that and a bit of social networking integration.

In addition to these features, UpTo also allows for users to search and follow more than 800 event streams, including sporting events, television premiers, and local business events.

Our only complaint so far? No tablet support.

RadioShack now offering discounted Galaxy S III with $50 Google Play credit

Posted: 19 Nov 2012 10:26 AM PST

RadioShack began offering the Samsung Galaxy S III at discounted rates yesterday, November 18, which are pretty darn appealing if you ask us. For a limited time you can pick one of these 16GB models up from AT&T or Verizon for $99.99 with a two-year service agreement. What’s more, the retailer is also tossing in a $50 Google Play Store credit which can be used on apps, movies, books, music, and other goodies. Not interested in either of those carriers? Perhaps you will like the Sprint model and its $49.99 price tag. Yeah, you also get that $50 Google Play Store credit there, too

Samsung to refresh the look of Galaxy S III for Valentines Day

Posted: 19 Nov 2012 09:56 AM PST

Samsung is expected to introduce new floral-inspired La Fleur designs for its Galaxy S III smartphone in the coming months. Presumably tied to a Valentines Day refresh, the flagship phone looks to have at least three new designs on the horizon. There’s no word on whether these are for specific markets or if they will be priced differently from other models however our instincts tell us this should be a fairly wide release and ought to cost the same as other colors

Amazon offering limited time savings on select Verizon smartphones

Posted: 19 Nov 2012 09:35 AM PST

Amazon isn’t going to wait around for Black Friday, at least as it pertains to Android handsets over at Verizon. The online retailer just pinged our inbox with a list of devices discounted, some as low as one penny with a two-year service plan. Keep in mind that these are for new subscribers only.

Sales for New Customers:

Existing users can take advantage of a penny sale of their own, however, as the Droid Razr 4G can be had for a shiny Lincoln.

HD Widgets 3.7 debuts for Android 4.2 with a dozen new widgets

Posted: 19 Nov 2012 09:11 AM PST

The cloud.tv team has dropped a spankin’ new version of its HD Widgets application for Android, just as Android 4.2 begins rolling out with new and existing devices.  Swing on by the Google Play Store and check out v3.7 and you’ll find five a dozen new widgets (five for phone, seven for tablet) awaiting you.

One of the best features of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is the daydream mode which lets users put up to five widgets on the lock screen. For smartphones the cloud.tv guys have added three primary widgets and two side widgets. On the tablet front, there are five primary widgets and two side widgets. We’ve only played with these for a few minutes on the Nexus 7 and have already fallen in love all over again. Our lock screen is much better now, thank you.

GLBenchmark lets slip LG F240K smartphone with 1080p display

Posted: 19 Nov 2012 08:41 AM PST

Looking for a hi-def display? Well, a bit more patience may net you a new LG phone here soon. While we’ve seen 1080p displays on the DROID DNA, we should be seeing another soon, according to some GLBenchmark results.

The phone is dubbed the LG F240K (unofficially, of course), and they’ve got some pretty killer benchmarks going on. A 1.5Ghz quad-core snapdragon CPU, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (with a possible upgrade to 4.2) should make a great combination on this device.

While GLB results don’t an official new phone make, they do point in that direction correctly most of the time. Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments.

ZTE Grand X Pro and Avid 4G leak, show off newfound company sleekness

Posted: 19 Nov 2012 08:28 AM PST

It looks like ZTE is really trying to get their name out as a legitimate manufacturer of Android devices. We’ve got 2 new leaks from @evleaks – the Grand X Pro and the Avid 4G – and they’re a far cry from some of the low-to-mid range phones we’ve seen in the past.

While we dont have a whole lot to go off of for specs, what we can say is there seems to be some pretty solid manufacturing here. Reminiscent of HTC’s devices, the Grand X Pro (which could even be a play on the HTC One line, perhaps?) has some real sleekness and simplicity to factor in. The Avid 4G looks to be a slight downgrade from the X Pro, but at least has ICS (?) and 4G to boot.

Be sure to check out the leaks at the source links below, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
