ZTE Nubia Z5 release date leaked?

Posted: 19 Dec 2012 12:47 PM PST

We recently published an article about 50 applications you should download before the world ends on December 21, but it seems ZTE is also planning to launch a device on the same day, may be they are looking forward to launch the last smartphone of this world. Anyway, I am talking about the ZTE Nubia Z5, a device we saw a few days ago in a leaked shot, is one kind of a monster smartphone designed by Italian designer Stefano Giovannoni.

808671aajw1dztbhjiam8jThe information came from Zubia Z5 page on Weibo, as reported by techkiddy, so lets take this rumor with a grain of salt. Have a look on specs:

  • 1.5 GHz quad-core APQ8064 QualcommSnapdragon S4 Pro processor
  • 5 Inch Full HD Display with 440ppi
  • 2GB RAM
  • 13Mpx Camera rear camera,2Mpx Front Facing camera
  • 7.6mm thin
  • Back has dual speakers
  • Unibody Chasis
  • Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean
  • 2500mAh Battery

Some good dough under the hood, no? Also this device will be the world thinnest Full HD smartphone. It’s expected that it will launch with a price tag of $400, which is apparently not bad at all. Though, don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comment box below.

Samsung to fix Exynos software vulnerability ‘as quickly as possible’

Posted: 19 Dec 2012 08:14 AM PST

Samsung recently gave an updated statement concerning a software vulnerability in their Exynos kernel. They confirmed that they were already aware of the issue, and did also acknowledge that the exploit is a specifically-coded app that takes advantage of the vulnerability in the code. Moral of the story: stick with approved apps from the app store, and you should be alright.

Samsung had the following to say:

Samsung is aware of the potential security issue related to the Exynos processor and plans to provide a software update to address it as quickly as possible.

The issue may arise only when a malicious application is operated on the affected devices; however, this does not affect most devices operating credible and authenticated applications.

Samsung will continue to closely monitor the situation until the software fix has been made available to all affected mobile devices.

The vulnerability has the capacity to give the app total control over a device’s RAM, letting it completely run the device. The Galaxy Note 2, as well as international versions of the Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S3, are found to be vulnerable thus far.

If you’re worried about being affected by the app, there is a third party solution (found here) that will check your vulnerability, and fix the issue for you.

Strategy Analytics: 275 million 4G LTE smartphone shipments in 2013

Posted: 19 Dec 2012 07:44 AM PST

strategy_analytics720

The number of 4G LTE smartphone shipments will triple in the coming  year, says research firm Strategy Analytics. Forecast to hit 275 million in 2013 this will dwarf the 91 million shipments over the last 12 months. Among the companies poised to capitalize most are Samsung, LG, and Apple however rising tides lift all boats. With that in mind, 2013 should also help Motorola, HTC, Pantech, ZTE, and Huawei.

"It is clear that 2013 will be the year of 4G. LTE smartphone shipments worldwide will exceed a quarter-billion units for the first time. Multiple operators and multiple phone vendors will be launching dozens of LTE models across numerous countries worldwide. LTE has quickly become a high-growth, high-value market that no operator, service developer, component maker or device vendor can afford to ignore." - Neil Mawston, Executive Director at Strategy Analytics

Samsung will introduce a new Galaxy Frame smartphone at Mobile World Congress, according to sources close to SamMobile.  Details are incredibly scarce at this point however we are expecting it in a pearl white color only. Reportedly, the hardware is not all that powerful and the specs will likely fall in line with the Galaxy Ace or Galaxy Mini. Should that be the case then we might expect a smallish screen and single-core or dual-core processor.

santa_tracker_720

If you’re like me then you will usually find yourself pulling out the Google Maps app on Christmas Eve so that we can keep an eye on Santa’s location. The last thing we want is to be out running around when the jolly fat man comes swinging through our neck of the woods. This year, the tracking of Santa becomes much easier and more fun with the introduction of Google Santa Tracker.

A website launching this morning lets you keep a watchful eye on the North Pole as the elves make toys and ready for the big day. Looking ahead to Christmas , you'll be able to follow Santa on Google Maps and Google Earth, and get his stats starting at 2:00 a.m. PST Christmas Eve at google.com/santatracker.

While you’re thinking about it, we recommend grabbing the official Android app as well!
