LG is not only a leader in the smartphone space, but they also know a thing or two about televisions as well. After launching a Google TV in 2012, LG appears to be readying multiple televisions sets at the 2013 CES with various sizes and features.

lg_google_tv_2013-580x407Although Google TV has yet to really take off in the way in which we’d all like it to, perhaps a new crop of TV sets with fancy options, thin designs, and sleek form factors can help.

Acer launching a $99 tablet next year?

Posted: 27 Dec 2012 10:46 AM PST

Acer has been quiet on the tablet front as of late long time now, but it seems that they are planning to make a comeback. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Acer is working on a tablet that will be launched next year which would cost around just $99 and reportedly come to market as the Iconia B1. The pictures of the tablet were actually leaked on a Benchmark forum, and the source of WSJ confirmed that the pics are authentic.

ATT00001It is said that it will feature a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 – not bad for a tablet with such price tag – and will be powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. The tablet made its way to the FCC as well, which gives a hint that the tablet might land in USA as well.

So tell us, what are your thoughts about this? If it’s real, would you consider it?

Original Galaxy Note to get Jelly Bean, multi-window, and more with new Premium Suite

Posted: 27 Dec 2012 08:46 AM PST

Just like it’s older brothers the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2, the OG Galaxy Note will be getting an upgrade to the Samsung “Premium Suite”. The suite is available with the Android 4.1 upgrade.

The new improvements include multi-window (full screen multitasking), pop-up video / browser / note apps, easy clip, photo note, New S Planner and email apps, and paper artist. Not to forget the standard jB updates, such as Google Now and Project Butter.

We don’t have any specifics on when this update will be rolling out, but with CES hovering over our heads, we can bet it would be pretty soon.

Samsung striving for nearly 400 million smartphones in 2013

Posted: 27 Dec 2012 07:25 AM PST

samsung_720

If you thought this year was big for Samsung, wait until you see what they have planned for the next twelve months.  The goal for Samsung is to hit nearly 400 million (390M) smartphones in 2013, with hopes to surpass one half billion in total cell phones.

“Of the 510 million handsets it plans to sell, 390 million are slated as smartphones and 120 million, feature and budget phones,” according to an executive from one of Samsung's key suppliers.

This year saw Samsung ship 420 million devices so a goal of 510 million in 2013 represents a 20 percent jump year-over-year. Can it be done? We certainly think so. but that is assuming that business runs as usual for all players in the space. Companies like HTC will be hoping to bounce back in the next year and we’ve got Windows Phone stuff to contend with as well.
