Huawei Ascend P2 announced as world’s fastest 4G LTE smartphone

Huawei today announced the latest member of its Android arsenal in the form of the Ascend P2. Expected to hit markets in the second quarter of the year, the Ascend P2 is an Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean handset with a 4.7-inch 720p HD display.

Additional hardware details include a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, a 13-megapixel camera, 16GB internal storage, and microSD expansion. Juiced by a 2420 mAh battery, the Ascend P2 is touted as the world’s fastest 4G LTE smartphone. How so? Support for theoretical download speeds of 150Mbps and LTE Category 4 connection, that’s how.

Rounding out the Ascend P2, the handset measures 8.mm thick and features DLNA and quick charge.

The Ascend P2 is Huawei’s flagship device for the 2013 and will go on sale during the second quarter for €399. Pricing and availability for the U.S. has yet to be announced.

Samsung debuts 1TB HomeSync media hub

In addition to rolling out a new member of the Galaxy Note 8.0, Samsung today introduced a new 1TB media hub for your living room. Dubbed HomeSync, it’s an Android 4.1.2 powered drive that allows up to eight separate accounts to share content to and from other Galaxy devices. Want to watch your home videos or photos?  Presto.

One of the other great features of the HomeSync is that it allows users to play apps at 1080p HD, including titles from the Google Play Store.

The HomeSync is due in April 2013 however exact availability and markets are yet to be announced.  Same for pricing, that’s still unclear at this point.

HomeSync will be available from April 2013 in select countries and continue to expand globally.

Samsung introduces Galaxy Note 8

Samsung today introduced the next member of the Galaxy Note family, officially unveiling the Galaxy Note 8.0. As the name implies, the tablet features an 8-inch display, however the finer details include 8" WXGA (1280×800, 189 ppi) resolution.

Powered by Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, the Galaxy Note 8.0 also offers a rear 5-megapixel camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, microdSD expansion card slot (up to 64GB), and 4600 mAh battery. The heavy lifting comes from the 1.6GHz A9 quad-core processor and 2GB RAM and the storage options include 16GB or 32GB.

In terms of software, the Galaxy Note 8.0 includes a slew of S Pen apps and functionality.  All the standard Note apps are present, including S Note, S Planner, Email (with hand-writing integration), Quick Command, Easy Clip, Photo Note, and Paper Artist.

No availability or pricing is known and U.S. details are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The GALAXY Note 8.0 will be available from 2Q of 2013 worldwide (EUR, KOR, NA, SEA, SWA, MEA, CHN, TW, LA).
