Samsung Galaxy S4 teasers hit the streets of Times Square

Posted: 07 Mar 2013 11:41 AM PST

Samsung has already confirmed they’ll be announcing and showing off the new Galaxy S4 smartphone next week in New York City, but now they are telling the entire city and teasing us with a few giant billboards. Those on the streets of NYC and walking down Times Square will see a few huge posters and quick reminders as we count the days to March 14th.

GalaxyS4

The folks from Samsung have placed a couple of huge posters and ads throughout Times Square reminding us to “Be ready 4 the next Galaxy” but they surely don’t give any hints. The company is aiming and projecting to sell nearly 100 million units of their new flagship Galaxy S4, so these billboards are probably just chump change at this point. Well played Samsung.

We still don’t have all the tasty details, but we’ve seen enough leaks and even benchmarks that we have a pretty good idea of what to expect. That being a 4.99-inch 1080p full HD display, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and a few different variations under the hood for the processor. Reports suggest a powerhouse 1.8 GHz Snapdragon 600 quad-core with 4G LTE in the US, then Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa 8-core chip in Europe and internationally all with 2GB of RAM and up to 64GB of storage.

Screen Shot 2013-03-07 at 11.27.25 AM

The design and look is still a bit of a mystery but recent leaks suggest a more squared off design over the curved corners of the Galaxy S III. One thing we do know, we’ll have all the details next week on March 14th while we’re live in NYC to bring you all the details. Stand-by for pictures and video coming as soon as possible come the 14th. Are you excited to see the next Galaxy?

Apple’s Phil Schiller sends warning message to Android users

Posted: 07 Mar 2013 11:36 AM PST

The topic of malware on Android has taken an interesting turn today. We mentioned the report from F-Secure which was saying that Android accounted for 79 percent of all malware in 2012 and that iOS accounted for only 0.7 percent. The interesting turn came when Apple’s Phil Schiller decided to tweet about the report, and while not specifically using the word Android, he seems to have been sending the message with Android users in mind.

androidevilplus

Anyway, the tweet was short and simple and warned users to “be safe out there.” Those four words were then followed by a link to the previously mentioned F-Secure report. As an Android user, what can we say; thanks. The slightly strange part here, Schiller is not all that active on Twitter. In fact, his previous tweet came on December 25 when he wished all his followers a “Happy Christmas.” And before that, he sent a love and prayers message to the folks in Newtown, Connecticut.

Screen-Shot-2013-03-07-at-12.16.48-PM

Basically, with those two tweets coming before this, the Android one seems a bit off. But again, thanks for the warning. On a more serious note though, that 79 percent number is based on a report with a total of 301 reports. Yes, just 301 in 2012. Putting the numbers aside though, this sort of brings back memories of the Mac vs. Windows arguments.

Putting this Schiller tweet to the side though and we offer a bit of common sense advice for Android users. Sure, there could be some issues with malware in apps, but for the most part it should be easy to avoid. Take caution when you sideload apps — make sure they are coming from a reputable site and/or person and when using the Google Play Store, check some of the additional details such as the developer name and permissions.

Facebook Newsfeed redesign aims for ‘mobile consistency’

Posted: 07 Mar 2013 10:43 AM PST

Today Facebook is detailing the all-new Facebook front page known as the Newsfeed, and team Zuckerberg just announced a few details. Everything is changing, again. The new redesign will be aimed at “mobile consistency” as well as delivering what they call the best “personalized newspaper” available. It looks like Facebook is about to start taking mobile seriously.

Screen Shot 2013-03-07 at 10.39.08 AM

With Facebook being one of the most visited websites in the world, I’m sure a few of you are interesting in seeing what’s new. Essentially what’s going on today is the main page, known as the news feed, is being completely redesigned yet streamlined with mobile. The information will now be more visual instead of a wall of text, and all personalized. The main focus will be on three things:

• Rich Stories
• Choice of Feeds
• Mobile Consistency

Mark Zuckerberg mentioned multiple times “the best personalized newspaper” available. And that is the main focus here with the all new Facebook. The content and visual-rich feeds will now take up roughly 40% of the page, and be streamlined and mirrored to mobile. It looks a bit like Google+. They want to get Facebook out of the way, and let the content take focus. They also claimed the entire design came from mobile. Not only will they be consistent, but the design was actually inspired by mobile.

Screen Shot 2013-03-07 at 12.26.37 PM

Mobile devices don’t have nearly the screen real estate as a PC, so developers had to use the screen as efficiently as possible. They’ve rolled those same ideas over the the desktop. So instead of mobile changing to the web style, they’re blending together and meeting in the middle. The same slide-out menu on mobile is now on the desktop (left) as you can see from the screenshots, and you’ll be able to quickly switch between every aspect of Facebook and your feeds.

The all-new redesign should start rolling out today according to Facebook, but will be extremely slow as they test and perfect the design. Then the mobile apps won’t see it for another “few weeks” or so, but those updates are surely coming soon. We’ll have to see the new app to give our opinion, so stay tuned.

OUYA store accepting game submissions ahead of March 28 console shipments

Posted: 07 Mar 2013 10:41 AM PST

Some good news for those awaiting delivery of an OUYA game console — games will be ready and available when your shipment arrives later in the month. While this is good news for the end user, it also means that there is some work to be done by the developers. Basically, the OUYA team has officially put out the call and they are looking for developers to begin submitting games.

ouya-brown-1343843368-540x315

For real this time. If you are a developer and had been thinking that was already done, that was just for the trial run. As of today any games submitted (and approved) will be ready and available in the store for when the consoles begin shipping on March 28. Developers will need to submit their games for approval using the developer portal found at devs.ouya.tv. Once submitted the team at OUYA will review the game and then email the developer when approval has been granted.

Developers, aside from having your game available on launch day, having your game available in the store on March 28 will also make you eligible for a promotion. It seems OUYA is going to be sponsoring some documentaries and will be included several of the top apps. Just having your game available at launch should be incentive enough, however the possibility of extra (free) promotion should also help to light that fire and get you moving on the submission process.

All said and done, the March 28 OUYA shipments are first heading to those who backed the console on Kickstarter. Those who pre-ordered from the OUYA website will see a delivery after the Kickstarter backers have been taken care of and then a retail launch is set for June. Finally, for those waiting a console delivery, you may want to check out our OUYA Starter Guide while you wait.

RunKeeper 3.1 update adds night-mode and additional audio cues [Hands-On]

Posted: 07 Mar 2013 10:07 AM PST

Coming fairly quickly after the 3.0 update, RunKeeper for Android has once again been updated. This latest arrives as version 3.1 and with the new number comes a few new features. The new features include a night-mode, access to Google Play Music from within the app, additional audio cues and improvements in terms of sharing. As someone that has been running at odd hours lately, lets begin with the night-mode.

runkeeper-31-01

This one is just as the name would imply, the folks at RunKeeper have added a new color scheme for those who work out before the sun comes up, or after it goes down. You can get a look at the night-mode in the above screenshot. Accessing this mode is fairly simple, just start your workout and then click the “wrench” icon in the upper left. From here just tap the option for “Night Mode” and it will change to a more eye-friendly color scheme.

runkeeper-31-02

The other addition is the access to Google Play Music. Again this is simple and just as the name implies. To get your music click the “music” icon in the upper right corner before you begin your workout. In terms of the audio cues, these now include goodies such as current interval pace and heart rate stats. You can access these by visiting the Settings within the app and also take a look at some of the new additions in the above screenshot.

runkeeper-31-03

Last up in terms of changes and new additions is the improvements to sharing. Basically, it is now possible and easy to share your workout after it has been completed. If you wanted to share and forgot while you were saving the workout you can now tap the “share” icon in the upper right hand corner. You will see this while in the workout view (as seen above). Perhaps key here, by tapping this you will be able to share over a wide variety of services — basically, using any of the apps you have installed on your handset. With that, those interested in checking out RunKeeper for Android can use this link to visit the Google Play Store.

HTC One X on AT&T finally gets Android 4.1 Jelly Bean [Update: it's live]

Posted: 07 Mar 2013 09:54 AM PST

Today we have some interesting news for all you HTC One X owners on AT&T. Since nearly every other One X has already received the update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, we know you’re all patiently waiting for it to arrive. This morning AT&T finally announced the update was coming, and not soon, but actually arriving on handsets today. However, that official blog post has since been removed from the AT&T website.

P1250484-540x36021

Update: It’s back! The update should roll out today so start checking for updates. Here’s the changelog.

In the official blog post from AT&T this morning regarding the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for the HTC One X, they mentioned plenty of the usual new features as well as some additional things we can expect to enjoy. Obviously Jelly Bean brings Project Butter smoothness to the OS, but you’ll also enjoy expandable notifications with more details, as well as the amazing Google Now voice search features.

Then they went into details regarding users still enjoying HTC Sense UI 4 on the device, but there’s a few new features for the handset. There’s a countdown timer for the camera, ISIS Mobile payments (think Google Wallet) has been added, as well as some AT&T bloatware like AT&T Locker, Messenger and a few others.

Sadly after heading back to AT&T right now they’ve completely removed that blog post. So either some last minute changes have been made, they pulled the update, or this blog post and news was released early. However, it clearly mentioned March 7th, so we’re not exactly sure at the moment. At this point we know the update should arrive soonish, but we’ll report back when we hear or see more.

Cut the Rope: Experiments update adds 25 all-new levels

Posted: 07 Mar 2013 09:35 AM PST

The popular game developers at ZeptoLabs have issued an update to the fun and exciting game Cut the Rope: Experiments that brings a brand new level pack full of new adventures. With nearly 175 levels already available this game never gets old, but today we have an additional 25 levels for those who’ve been waiting for more.

rope

Our favorite little green monster character Om Nom is back with 25 all-new levels that will as usual test your skills, and smarts, as he works his way through a hoard of Ants. This brand new map pack is called Ant Hill and you’ll be working with the scurrying ants more than you’d think. If you’re sick of Angry Birds, why not give this new set of levels a try.

The concept is rather easy. The ants will carry candy to feed Om Nom, but you’ll need to tap and drop the candy in the ants path so they can scurry along and bring him treats. You need to feed Om Nom somehow right? You can tap again to get them to drop the candy, as once they reach the anthill the candy is gone forever and you won’t be able to feed the little green monster.

The update essentially adds 25 exciting new levels, while also adding additional challenging gameplay elements to the game for those who might be a bit bored with the usual. As always, Cut the Rope is $0.99 in the Google Play Store but the same update is also available on the free version linked to below. Give this latest update a try and be careful not to feed Om Nom too much candy.

Apple wins over Samsung in latest UK patent infringement case

Posted: 07 Mar 2013 09:10 AM PST

You win some and you lose some. In this case, it looks like Samsung has lost one. This case involved was set in the UK and was dealing with a few patent infringement claims related to 3G data. Specifically, Apple had been accused of infringing three of Samsung’s patents.

safgooooo-540x440

Naturally Samsung was not all that pleased with the decision. Reuters is reporting that the company was “disappointed” and that upon the completion of a “thorough review” they will decide whether or not they will appeal the decision. Apple on the other hand has not offered any statement in regards to this case.

As it stands this means nothing will be changing for those in the UK, and while we suspect this may not be all that exciting of news for Android Community readers, Apple will not have to stop or in any way change anything related to UK based sales. Basically, the iPhone will remain available for sale in the UK.

Anyway, as many will realize, this is just one of the issues between Samsung and Apple. Touching on another case that recently had some changes. Judge Lucy Koh recently removed $450 million of the settlement award in a US based patent infringement case. Additionally Judge Koh also ordered a new damages trial for that case. As that trial stands, we are waiting on word of a date, however the settlement that Apple will get is now down to about $600 million.

T-Mobile layoffs expected ahead of MetroPCS merger

Posted: 07 Mar 2013 08:38 AM PST

News of the T-Mobile and MetroPCS acquisition first came to light back in October and it was just yesterday when we learned the Department of Justice had given their approval. There is more to the approval process though. We still need word from the Federal Communications Commision (FCC) and Committee on Foreign Investment. Putting that aside for a moment — we now have word of potential layoffs.

t-mobile_usa-580x4271113-540x397

T-Mobile hasn’t officially commented on this matter, however sources are reporting that the carrier will begin the process of cutting some jobs. The Seattle Times is reporting that this “may affect more than 100 people in marketing and other groups.” More to the point, it was said those layoffs could begin as soon as today and that the company conference rooms have been reserved for "integration" meetings.

Unfortunately a new round of layoffs is not all that unexpected. In fact, T-Mobile has already been doing just that. Last year saw the loss of more than 4,200 jobs. Of those, 3,300 were from call centers with the remaining 900 being spread company wide. T-Mobile had expected to add some new employees as they built out their business sales group.

Otherwise, touching back on the merger, executive boards from both companies have offered a unanimous approval and as of now it looks like MetroPCS has a shareholder vote scheduled for April 12. MetroPCS has also mentioned that the waiting period (for the antitrust review) has since ended and that if stockholders were to vote against the merger that there would be "no assurance that MetroPCS will be able to deliver the same or better stockholder value.”

Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses begin shipping to gold level developers

Posted: 07 Mar 2013 07:58 AM PST

Vuzix has announced that they will soon be begin shipping the M100 Smart Glasses. These initial shipments will be heading towards developers, and while it would be nice to see this as an announcement for the everyday user — this should have some perks for when that day does arrive. Basically, Vuzix has begun shipping the M100 Smart Glasses to developers so they will be able to “start creating and testing their apps on the real hardware.”

vuzix_m100_wearable_hands-on_9-540x303

It is also worth noting that these initial shipments will be “custom built prototypes” and that they will be available on a first come first served basis. Vuzix notes that these initial shipments will be going out to their gold level developers and that they can expect delivery sometime “within the next 30 days as additional units become available.” According to Vuzix, they have seen hundreds of developers signing up since the program launched.

Our sister site SlashGear managed to spend some hands-on time with the glasses during CES. You can get a look at the video below. Otherwise, for those not as familiar with the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses, these are running Android and it has been said that they will come in at “under $500.” Time will tell how well received these will be, but they are certainly quite a bit less as compared to the Google Glasses.

The Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses will have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity as well as an eye-mounted 800 x 480 display, 4GB of internal storage, a memory card slot and 720p HD camera. The glasses will also have a 3-axis head tracker, gyroscope, digital compass and GPS. Battery life is said to be up to 8 hours, but of course, that will likely vary with real-world use. All said and done, for now these are heading towards developers, but hopefully these shipments mean progress is being made and a public release is getting closer.

LG Optimus F7 heads to Korea as the Optimus LTE III

Posted: 07 Mar 2013 07:21 AM PST

LG announced the Optimus F7 during Mobile World Congress and as of today, it looks like the handset will be heading to Korea. The catch here, the handset has been announced as the Optimus LTE III. The carrier will be SK Telecom and the Optimus F7 (LTE III) will serve as the follow up to the Optimus LTE II.

8534757737_f797ac9284

Similar to the MWC announcement, LG seems to be pushing this as a device for everyone. Previously we had seen talk of the F-Series as being able to bring a "premium user experience and the speed of 4G LTE to a mass audience." With this Optimus LTE III announcement, LG is talking about this handset as being good for “UX conscious consumers.”

They also talk of the Optimus LTE III as being good for first time smartphone owners, noting that existing feature phone users will be able to easily adapt. Regardless of who picks this device up though, the features will be the same. Basically, the Optimus LTE III will feature a 4.7-inch True HD IPS display, dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 2540 mAh battery, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The handset will be available in black and white. Anyway, while we may see an Optimus F7 released here in the US, it will most likely not arrive as the Optimus LTE III. Simply put, it will likely be a carrier re-branded handset should it come to the US market. As an example, we recently saw mention of the Optimus F5 coming to Verizon Wireless as the Lucid 2.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 GT-P8220 Bluetooth certification arrives

Posted: 07 Mar 2013 06:50 AM PST

Details have slowly been leaking for the Galaxy Tab 3 and while we have seen several possible model numbers mentioned, we have yet to see any sort of official announcement from Samsung. Some had believed the announcement was going to happen during Mobile World Congress, but as we now know, that was not the case. Anyway, while it would be nice to talk of word from Samsung, it looks like we have additional details coming from a recently discovered Bluetooth SIG filing.

samsunglogo1-540x180211

The filing is pointing towards the GT-P8220 which has been previously noted as having a 10-inch (2560 x 1600) display and dual-core 1.7GHz Exynos SoC processor. Basically, the GT-P8220 is thought to be the higher-end device in the Galaxy Tab 3 lineup. Anyway, on that note this recent Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group) filing has been discovered and comes with word of Bluetooth certification. This filing offers the basics such as how the GT-P8220 will have Bluetooth 4.0 and will allow “users to connect wirelessly to optional, compatible hands-free accessories such as Bluetooth technology enabled headsets and car kits.” The usual statement.

The other bit that has arrived is talk of cellular connectivity. Specifically, 4G LTE connectivity. This was not mentioned in the filing, however given the belief the GT-P8220 is a higher-end model, LTE connectivity, or at least the option for, sounds likely. Also coming from this filing is the geographic availability — it is still noted as being Europe. Of course, we also saw a similar mention of Europe with the Bluetooth SIG filing for the Samsung GT-P8200.

All said and done, we are looking forward to an official announcement from Samsung so we can put these rumors and leaks to rest. The company does have a big event coming up on March 14, however that is believed to be only for the Galaxy S4. Maybe we can hope for something soon after though. Or at the very least, a quiet roll-out of the Galaxy Tab 3 tablet lineup. And in the meantime, we will continue piecing these details together.

Rovio shares The Croods game trailer, this time with gameplay footage

Posted: 07 Mar 2013 06:20 AM PST

Rovio shared a teaser for their upcoming release of The Croods earlier in the month, however the catch was that the teaser contained almost nothing in terms of actual gameplay footage. Simply put, it seemed more like an advertisement for the movie as opposed to a game trailer. On that note, Rovio has since returned with another teaser, and yes, this one contains some actual gameplay footage.

the-croods-540

In fact, Rovio is touting this one as being the “first official gameplay trailer.” The video is on the shorter side, measuring in at just over 45 seconds in length. The gameplay kicks in at around the 14 second mark. The video begins by inviting you to meet the first modern family. From here you get a look at Grug and then you are shuttled into what the concept of the game will be.

The trailer lets you know that you will have to survive the wild (as well as your in-laws) and also catch the crazy creatures. Creatures and in-laws aside though, it seems the main concept of the game will be to build and grow your “pre-hysterical world.” The last 14 seconds of the video cuts away from the gameplay footage but does offer the release date reminder.

The Croods will be coming to Android (and iOS) on March 14. No word on pricing, however given what we have seen coming from Rovio in the past, it seems safe to believe it will be fairly low priced. And by that, we mean a buck or two, or possibly even free. Finally, while we look forward to playing The Croods come March 14, this is actually a lead in to the movie which will be released by DreamWorks Animation Studio on March 22.

EQuala app launches on Android

Posted: 07 Mar 2013 04:51 AM PST

Social music fans have a new application to check out for the Android operating system. The new application is called EQuala and it aims to bring more context and control to social music discovery. There are a lot of apps out there that have social music aspects including popular app such as Spotify and Rdio.

screen-shot-2013-03-06-at-4-46-12-pm

Those apps allow users to download and listen to music that their friends are listening to. The app is free for Android users and allows the user to create and curate as well as customize their own social music streams. The application is Facebook-integrated and is launching today in the US with over 23 million tracks in its catalog.

Users of the app are able to create personalized streams from the songs their friends are listening to and from other users with similar taste in music. Users have to log in through Facebook and EQuala the app then puts together profiles based on music you listen to and shared using third-party services such as Spotify, YouTube, and others.

The key feature of the application is something that is called the “Friends Equalizer.” This feature allows users to customize and control music streaming and manage which friends music plays more frequently. The app offers a sliding scale allowing you to control how much each friend influences music in your stream. That means if you have a friend that occasionally plays good music, but plays a lot of stuff you don’t like you can reduce how much that particular friend affects your social stream.

79% of all mobile malware in 2012 came from Android

Posted: 07 Mar 2013 04:44 AM PST

It doesn’t matter what smartphone platform you’re fond of, no one likes malware. Some operating systems in the mobile market have less malware to contend with in part because the ecosystem is much more closed than Android. It’s very easy for Android users to install applications from any number of app stores on the Internet that anyone can put up, while other platforms limit users to a single app store where everything is inspected.

According to security specialists F-Secure, Android accounted for 79% of all malware in 2012. The company says that Apple iOS on the other hand accounted for only 0.7% of all malware. The number for Android is up significantly from 66.7% of all malware in 2011. In 2010, the Android platform accounted for only 11.25% of all malware.

As the popularity of Android has boomed, more and more malware is targeting the platform. Interestingly, Symbian still accounts for 19% of all malware despite being abandoned by Nokia. That operating system is expected to disappear completely this year.

F-Secure says that Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, and J2ME devices each accounted for less than 1% of malware threats during 2012. We can certainly make the argument that the reason Android accounts for the bulk of the malware in the mobile market has to do with the fact that it’s also the most popular platform on the market.

Android 4+ now running on more devices than any other flavor

Posted: 07 Mar 2013 04:35 AM PST

For very long time the most common flavor of Android running on mobile devices was the rather old and outdated Android 2.3 Gingerbread. While there are several newer versions of the Android operating system that had been on the market for a long time, Gingerbread still held the majority of the Android market share. That has finally begun to change.

chart

Recent numbers show that for the first time Android 4.0 and higher is running on more mobile devices than any other version of the Android operating system. We do need to take that with a grain of salt because it takes Android 4.0, 4.1, and 4.2 together to have more of the Android market than Gingerbread alone. According to the numbers, Gingerbread is running on 44.2% of all Android devices on the market.

The numbers also show that 10.7% of all Android devices on the market are actually running a version of Android older than Gingerbread. When you add Android 4.0, 4.1, and 4.2 together, those flavors are running on 45.1% of all active Android devices. Some believe that Android 4.0 will continue to grow rapidly taking as much as half of the Android ecosystem within as little as a month.

If you’re the percentages sort and want to know specifically how much each flavor has of the market, the numbers do break down. Android 3.1 has 0.3% of the market, 3.2 has 0.9% of the market, and Android 1.6 Donut has 0.2% of the market. Eclair holds on with 1.9% of the market, and Froyo has 7.6% of the market. The specific percentages for Ice Cream Sandwich ranging from 4.0.3 through 4.0.4 and up to 28.6% of the market. Android 4.1 has 14.9% while 4.2 has 1.6%. All data was collected during a 14-day period that ended on March 4.

The tablet portion of machine docks into a PC base station turning the portable tablet device into a desktop computer. The ability to run Windows 8 means that users will be able to use software they are familiar with from home, school, or the office. The machine can also dual boot and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

When the tablet section is docked into the desktop PC Station base it runs Windows 8 and offers a 1 TB hard drive, integrated optical drive, memory card reader, Bluetooth, HDMI output, and four USB 3.0 ports. The desktop section runs a quad-core Intel i5 processor and has Nvidia graphics.

When you pull the screen section out of the PC Station, you end up with a large Android tablet running an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and featuring 32 GB of storage and a microSD card slot. The tablet portion measures 18.35 x 0.71 x 11.57-inches. The tablet has an internal battery and its own power adapter. The screen is 18.4-inches making the tablet portion not exactly portable.

Google I/O 2013 website is full of Google Easter Eggs

Posted: 06 Mar 2013 05:55 PM PST

Today the always fun folks from Google just updated the official Google I/O 2013 website. They’ve published the rest of the details on Google I/O like the dates and times, and stuff we already knew. Then tossed in tons of Google Easter Eggs. The entire site is actually interactive, which I completely missed after heading there when we received our press invite.

So for the creative minds, smart people, and all those who enjoy a good Google Easter egg you’ll want to quickly head to the I/O page by clicking here — and have fun. If you can’t figure it out, the big I and O are interactive, but it’s a code. Guess the right code and you’re greeted with an Easter Egg. I’ve already figured out about 5, but we’ll let you guys find the rest.

The Google I/O symbols will lead you to the bacon, bowling balls, space, I/O cats (Reddit will love that) and many other random things. There’s a matrix style page in there, but I forgot that one after I did it. Essentially you need to guess the code, and enjoy the effects after. The second page is also interactive, and I’m sure there’s a few Easter eggs in those too – but we haven’t found any. TheNextWeb claims there is songs and such too, so go crazy.

We don’t want to post them all, as that would ruin the fun of you guys finding all the Easter eggs yourself. Now back to things that actually matter. Google I/O! The event will be May 15th-17th in San Francisco, and we’re expecting Android 4.5 or 5.0 Key Lime Pie, a new Nexus 7, and hopefully an upcoming Nexus smartphone or something from camp Motorola. We’ll be there live too, so stay tuned!

Late last week Verizon broke the news on their official blog, confirming that the tasty Jelly Beans would be arriving – and now they’re finally here. According to Verizon the update should have started rolling out Monday, but we’ve just started seeing reports today that it has indeed arrived for many users.

The update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean brings the Samsung Galaxy Stellar some pretty awesome new features. Aside from everything we know about Jelly Bean, Samsung’s TouchWiz will be overhauled, and users will notice tons of changes in their notification pull-down bar. For one the notifications are now expandable and share more information, then the TouchWiz quick shortcuts have been improved.

As usual Jelly Bean brings better notifications for the device, improved keyboard, a smoother UI, and our personal favorite Google Now. The update is over 400MB in size, so you might want to use WiFi for the download. Along with Jelly Bean you can expect improved network performance and battery life, and the Verizon Appstore has been removed.

As usual you can check manually by heading into settings > about phone > and checking for updates yourself. Let us know if you experience any issues and enjoy that Google Now. More details on the full update can be found below.

Amazing ‘How guys will use Google Glass’ parody hits the web

Posted: 06 Mar 2013 04:19 PM PST

If you’re sick of all those Harlem Shake clips, you’ll want to check this video out. So we all know Google’s Project Glass is awesome. Right? The augmented reality headset that will be bringing the phase of wearable technology into our lives all led by Android, Google Now, and our voices. We’re huge fans of Google’s Project Glass, and this new parody video that hit the web earlier this week is a must see. It’s called How guys will use Google Glass.

Screen Shot 2013-03-06 at 4.05.10 PM

We’ve seen plenty of parody videos and all sorts of creative ideas for Project Glass. This one however is all about comedy and takes a more practical and humorous approach to the idea. Instead of playing Call of Duty 10 with Glass or walking into poles on the street, this is all about dating. We’ll just let you watch it:

Personally as soon as I saw him watching a football game while on a date, I knew this product was for me. Only I’d get in trouble by randomly yelling curse words when a play doesn’t go the way I’d like it. “Glass, take a picture” has to be the best part of the entire video if you ask me.

In case you missed it. Google posted their own friendly and family fun video of what we can expect with glass, and that is linked to below. This certainly took the comedic approach to the idea, and we loved it. If you’re going to look ridiculous wearing some Project Glasses on your face, at least use it to help you out on a date with a pretty lady. Oh and nice jab at Siri at the end there folks. Well played!
