So you like the idea of Amazon’s X-Ray for TV and Movies but don’t purchase your media through Amazon? No, you’re a Google Play Movies type of person.  You’re in luck! Google today announced that a very similar experience is now available for movies through Google Play Movies.

Have you ever wondered "What's the name of that actor?" or "Where have I seen him before?" Now, when you pause a supported movie on your tablet, you'll see info cards for the actors on screen and any music playing. You can then add their related movies to your Google Play wishlist, get the soundtrack, or search Google to discover even more about the actors or film.

Naturally, the info cards look very Google Now, and open the door to other media through the Play Store.

Google today rolled out a new feature in the Google Translate application for Android devices. What’s new? Oh, nothing… except the fact that you can translate yourself into fifty languages.

You can select [Offline Languages] in the app menu to see all the offline language packages available for download. To enable offline translation between any two languages, you just need to select them in the offline languages menu. Once the packages are downloaded, you’re good to go.

Sure, it’s not as comprehensive as the stuff you get with an internet connection, but it helps in a pinch!

PopCap, developers of the immensely popular Plants Vs. Zombies, today announced new titles in the same family. According to a company blog post, we should expect no less than two new PVZ games by summer.

Plants vs. Zombies Adventures beta, the first social adaptation of PopCap's megahit game for Facebook is testing in a closed beta… with wider availability later this spring…also confirmed today that Plants vs. Zombies 2, the sequel to the original blockbuster game, is slated to launch in early summer.

Considering the large audience appeal, we’re hoping to see both games make their way to Android and in a timely manner. The last thing we want to do is hop on Facebook to play a game, so, please give us mobile friendly versions.

Amazon today announced that its popular and rather cool X-Ray service has expanded into the realm of television. Ever find yourself watching a TV show and wondering, “Where have I seen that guy before”? This is the sort of app and feature that answers those questions.

Tied to IMDb, the X-Ray service runs on Kindle and Wii U devices and enables Amazon Instant Video viewers to quickly ID actors and learn more about them. Sorry guys, it won’t work on your standard phone or tablet; you must purchase and watch through Amazon’s Instant Videos.

Click here for Kindle Fire HD details – skip to software features to learn more.

We’re big fans of watching television with a tablet or smartphone nearby just so we can open IMDb up and read trivia, connect actors, and bone up on other fun stuff. By tying the X-Ray feature directly into movies and television shows, Amazon just makes things easier. And somewhat cooler, too.

Amazon smartphone reported to feature 4.7-inch display

Posted: 27 Mar 2013 06:29 AM PDT

amazon_appstore_feature

The rumored Amazon smartphone will feature a 4.7-inch display, according to a new DigitTimes report. Yeah – we know that the source is not always that accurate, but whatever…we’re passing along.

Allegedly, the Amazon handset could arrive in the second quarter of the year where it will presumably run the same custom Android experience found in the Kindle Fire tablets. That is, depending on whether they can meet get production back on track.

The sources did indicate, however, that while Amazon is looking to a second-quarter release date for the device, it may not be able to release the smartphone on schedule, as production progress at its manufacturing partner, Foxconn International Holdings (FIH), has not been as smooth as expected.

As for why Amazon opted to go with the larger screen size, it’s said that recent smartphones hovering around this size was the reason. Initially, Amazon was set to go with a 4.3-inch display.

We’re still not 100% on board with the Amazon rumors but we’re inclined to believe it’s an eventuality.
