T-Mobile CZ Uses Sex Appeal to Sell Sony Xperia Z

T-Mobile CZ was not shy during their Sony Xperia Z launch event in Prague recently.  Swimsuit models were used to capture the true essence of the smartphone’s water resistant feature.  Spectators stood in long lines, gawked, took pics and video of the models…oh, and the smartphone as well.

The scantly dressed models were made to use the smartphones while getting soaked in a specially built, strategically placed shower at the entrance to the T-Mobile mall store.

Of course, the ladies were not left out of the brilliant marketing strategy…they too had a half naked model to ogle at during the launch event.  Well, at least they weren’t sexist about the whole thing, right?

Apple’s Siri Patent Lawsuit Vs Samsung Not Suspended Rules Judge

Posted: 09 Mar 2013 07:50 AM PST

Apple vs Samsung

Apple continues to fight Samsung even after being awarded $599 million, and U.S District Judge Lucy Koh has refused to suspend a lawsuit against Samsung involving several patents relating to Siri. The case is scheduled for March 2014 and both companies have declined to comment. To make matters worse, Apple has also appealed Judge Lucy Koh’s decision to not implement a permanent sales ban on infringing Samsung devices. A ruling for that is not expected to be reached until September at the earliest.

AT&T (vaguely) elaborates on their device unlocking policy

Unless you’ve been avoiding the internet lately, you’ve no doubt heard a few details about that new law that makes unlocking your cell phone illegal. AT&T, in what was probably an attempt to avoid any negative PR, has attempted to clear up their device unlocking policy. In theory, it’s a good move, as it lets consumers know where their cell provider stands on device unlocking. Unfortunately, AT&T left a few details more than a little hazy.

AT&T’s VP of Federal Regulatory Joan Marsh released a statement about the company’s unlocking policy, stating “if we have the unlock code or can reasonably get it from the manufacturer, AT&T currently will unlock a device for any customer whose account has been active for at least sixty days; whose account is in good standing and has no unpaid balance; and who has fulfilled his or her service agreement commitment. If the conditions are met we will unlock up to five devices per account per year.”

So, cool, right? As long as I pay my bill, AT&T will unlock my device! Theoretically, yes, but there are a few ifs in that statement. If AT&T has the unlock code for your specific device, you’ll be fine. Otherwise… good luck. “Being in good standing” is also decided at AT&T’s discretion. You’ll at least have to have no unpaid balance on your bill and will have to have completed your two year service agreement, but there’s no clear definition if there’s anything else to that. Hopefully we’ll see AT&T clear some of this up in the future.

project-shield-overview

Ever since NVIDIA announced the Project Shield device at CES 2013, they have continued to produce videos for a variety of games coming to the Tegra 4 powered mobile game console. The latest title to be highlighted on NVIDIA’s site is Riptide GP 2, a jet-ski racing game. It should be no surprise that a game involving so much water would show up to help demonstrate some of the capabilities of NVIDIA’s latest chip.

NVIDIA says the new version of Riptide GP will include “enhanced water and particle effects, HDR lighting, boosted reflection shaders and the all-new spectator mode.” Riptide GP 2 joins other titles like Need for Speed Most Wanted, Burn Zombie Burn and Real Boxing that have received the highlight treatment from NVIDIA.

Check out the video below to see how the Project Shield device works and what Riptide GP 2 will be like on the device.

New gameplay video for Shadowrun Returns released

Fans of the Shadowrun roleplaying game may find themselves spending some considerable time over the next few days watching and watching again a new video of gameplay for the upcoming Shadowrun Returns game. The game combines free form roleplaying with a turn-based combat system to bring the pen and paper game to the digital world. The developers, Harebrained Schemes, raised over $1.8 million via a Kickstarter project to fund development of the title. The video is labeled as Alpha Gameplay Footage and will give potential players an idea of what to expect. An Android tablet version is expected to be released later this year.

Shadowrun takes place in the late 21st century at a time when megacorporations rule the world. Technology is much advanced compared to today, with bioware and cyberware available for individuals looking for an enhancement of their normal capabilities. The setting is sometimes described as cyberpunk in the flavor of William Gibson’s imaginings. The creators of Shadowrun did not stop there though. They brought in elements of fantasy genres as well with the re-emergence of magic in the world. Along with magic, races of beings like orcs, goblins, elves and dwarves also reappeared. This results in a world that is a mashup of science fiction and fantasy.

Harebrained Schemes is currently taking pre-orders for OSX, PC or Linux versions for $15 for the basic version. Upgraded versions, including a Deluxe edition and a Collector’s Edition are available as well. Check out the 20 minute clip below for a good taste of what to expect from Shadowrun Returns.
