Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition)

Samsung's second-generation Galaxy Note 10.1 model will go on sale in various markets starting with late September, but it looks like "industry sources" already estimate "small" initial sales for the tablet.

The not always reliable DigiTimes says that the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) will sell around 400,000-600,000 units "initially," according to its unnamed sources.

Apparently Samsung's 10.1-inch tablet sales "have been disappointing," with the company reportedly cutting component orders for such devices.

The same sources believe that the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) is meant "to defend Samsung's market share" in the 10-inch tablet sales once the fifth-generation iPad launches later this year.

However, the same sources say that demand for 7-inch tablets will actually have an impact on both Galaxy Note 10.1 and iPad sales.

Whether analysts are right or wrong with sales estimates for the new tablet, Samsung did not say how much the new tablet will cost, which certainly is an important piece of the puzzle when looking at tablet sales.

The new Galaxy Note 10.1 was officially announced a couple of days ago at Samsung's IFA 2013 Unpacked event, which Android Authority attended.

The tablet offers a new design, generally along the lines of the new Galaxy Note 3 model and the same set of TouchWiz software features on top of Android.

Additionally, the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) offers some high-end specs including a 10.1-inch display with 2560 x 1600 resolution, 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor or 1.9GHz Exynos 5 Octa CPU (depending on markets), 8-megapixel camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera and LTE (in some markets).
