HTC CMO Ben Ho takes a swing at Apple
Sep 11th 2013, 09:59, by Harrison Kaminsky

HTC_FailingThe bell’s dinging and the last round has begun for HTC. They’re seemingly down for the count, but today they made an effort to come back swinging. Not by releasing some revolutionary product, or by getting all of their disgruntled employees to happily come back to work, or by quelling the rumors of a possible fire-sale of the company— HTC’s Chief Marketing Officer, Ben Ho, has made an all-out statement against Apple, making use of the tagline “Here’s To Confirmation” in a blog post on the company’s official website yesterday.

Yes, we are all well aware here that Apple is somehow able to “invent” revolutionary new features each year and jam-pack  them into their new iOS devices. This isn’t news to us. But somehow, HTC felt it was right to point this out to the rest of us, and tell us why Apple isn’t doing a good job, and how HTC is.

Ho explained that the company’s mantra, “Here’s To Change,” perfectly exemplifies how they are the company that is always revising the status quo, and this year, it was through the creation of the HTC One. It’s a great phone, no doubt— but the question of how the company has been managing itself over the past year is a much larger debate.

When a failing company’s Chief Marketing Officer starts blabbing about their “jaw-dropping metal design that has caused more than a few iFans to do a double-take,” it starts to seem a bit like they’re being ignorantly narcissistic.

So, HTC: perhaps you should start refocusing your branding efforts, cleanse your staff of criminal activity, fix your miserable sales figures, spend a little less time on your “Hello Kitty Edition” Butterfly S, and start trying to make yourself a bit better than the company you just dissed.

As our mothers always said, “people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”
