By now, the case that the next Nexus smartphone (the Nexus 5, if you will) is an LG job is fairly strong. We've seen several sets of regulatory filings that support it, apparently confirming rumors out of South Korea that Google's new flagship would be made by LG based on the recently launched G2.

Sharing the hardware platform of LG's 2012 flagship, the Nexus 4 featured the same 8MP camera as some versions of the Optimus G. (The 8MP model was available on AT&T, while other models, like the Sprint and the international ones, boasted a 13MP sensor). It's therefore relatively safe to assume that the new Nexus will have the same camera as the LG G2.

Supporting this assumption is the close resemblance between the camera module from the FCC docs and the camera module of the LG G2.

Though the fact that the two modules look identical is no guarantee that the Nexus 5 will have precisely the same camera as the G2, that is a distinct possibility at this point.

Nexus smartphones were never known for the quality of their cameras, but that could change this year, if the Nexus 5 indeed turns out to feature the G2's 13MP camera with optical image stabilization.

We were impressed with the imaging capabilities of the G2 in our extensive review, and this demo video from LG does a pretty good job at explaining the core strengths of the G2's camera.

Will the new Nexus be the first to shed the series reputation for mediocre cameras? Will see this October.
