Android 4.4 KitKat probably with Nexus 5 to unveil in Israel November 5
Oct 29th 2013, 02:38, by Juan Carlos Torres

October is almost all but over and still no sign nor shadow of Android 4.4 or its accompanying Nexus 5 smartphone. Whatever the date that Google has truly chosen to unleash its latest products, it seems that Israel will be witnessing the unveiling of the duo next week.

You’re all probably tired from hearing of all the leaks, rumors, and guesses surrounding the latest iterations of the Android OS and Google’s Nexus smartphone, especially when it comes to trying to divine exactly when they will be announced, let alone launched. This latest piece of news comes all the way from Israel, via an invitation that simply tells its recipients to mark November 5 on their calendars for a press conference to be held in Tel Aviv.

Of course, the conspicuous presence of the KitKat chocolate bar, contained inside a Nexus 4 smartphone, is a dead giveaway that it will be about Android 4.4 KitKat. However, it is interesting to note that the invitation came via Ronlight Digital, an importer of LG’s mobile products in Israel. Considering this association, we could be forgiven if we suspect a Nexus 5 also lurking behind the scenes.

It is yet unknown whether this press conference will be a simultaneous event or just a regional unveiling, though it is most probably the latter. So we’re back again at not knowing when Google will finally pull off the covers on these much-awaited pieces of technology. At this point, there is nothing left to do but to patiently wait and, hopefully, be pleasantly surprised.

Racing Rivals finally bound for Android
Oct 29th 2013, 02:11, by Juan Carlos Torres

The Samsung Developers Conference isn’t just a chance to inject new blood into the manufacturer’s software ecosystem. It is also an opportune moment for more established developers to showcase their wares. One such developer is Cie Games, who just announced the arrival of their hit iOS racing game Racing Rivals on the Android platform.

Racing Rivals is a car racing game, but unlike its more popular rivals in the genre, Racing Rivals focus on one and only one type of race: drag racing. This puts the game in an entirely different light. Instead of simply racing for points or fame, players race for bets, which range from certain amounts of in-game denominations to acquiring the loser’s car itself, or “pinks” in drag racing lingo.

Even the act of competing itself has a different twist. In other racing games, players compete in what Cie Games calls “ghost races”, where players simply race against other players’ scores. Racing Rivals, on the other hand, boasts of a live, synchronous multiplayer gameplay that has players competing with other people in real time. This feature, as well as the realistic cars and car parts used in the game, has helped make the game a smash hit on Apple’s App Store, says the developer. Here’s a short trailer of the Racing Rivals game.

Naturally, Android users have been clamoring to have the game available on their favorite devices. Cie Games has heard and answered. But don’t hit Google Play Store just yet at Cie Games says that Racing Rivals will be available shortly, with no specific date mentioned.

Lenovo announces #Betterway global livestream with Ashton Kutcher in tow
Oct 29th 2013, 01:21, by Juan Carlos Torres

Lenovo is itching to share its latest innovations and it seems that it plans on making a big splash about it. The company, arguably the world’s leading PC maker, has just announced its upcoming press event to unveil its new products, and its bringing along a Hollywood star for the ride.

Lenovo started teasing its upcoming products last week via a #betterway hashtag and a series of YouTube videos. The videos exaggerate the desperate and sometimes quirky methods we employ to make our mobile devices, particularly our tablets, more usable. Lenovo is implying that it has developed innovative products that provide better ways to deal with those situations.

The company has chosen to hold its unveiling at the YouTube LA Space, the new spot Google has established for YouTube creators. Lenovo will be livestreaming the event for the whole world to see on October 29 at 7:00 p.m. PT. Aside from a live musical performance by indie duo Hunter Hunted, the company has also enlisted the help of Ashton Kutcher, probably in an attempt to draw in a bigger crowd. It will probably be a bit strange to see someone who recently portrayed Steve Jobs hosting a Lenovo event.

Judging from the teasers, we could be seeing some new tablets, or maybe some tablet accessories that attempt to resolve the supposed problems portrayed in the videos. In any case, we’ll no more soon enough tomorrow what Lenovo has been cooking behind closed doors.
