Earlier this week Motorola filed a trademark for the name "Moto G", leading us to speculate that this could either be a brand new device, the Google Play version of the Moto X or perhaps even an alternative name for the Motorola DVX.

Now it seems that a new source has come forward with further information, reporting to Phone Arena. The source claims that they are 'close to Google's wholly owned subsidiary' and that the Moto G is indeed the official name for the Moto DVX.

It's important to get this out of the way: one anonymous source proves very little. Still, the idea isn't too unbelievable. The only thing we have to wonder is why did Motorola wait so long to file for a trademark if they really plan to use it on the DVX?

Generally a company puts months of planning into every detail regarding a smartphone release, name included. According to a recently leaked Republic Wireless slide, the DVX might still be coming before October is up. Considering the Moto G name was just filed for on October 15th, it seems a little strange to think that Google would wait so close to the DVX’s release before officially changing the name.

In other words, take all of this with a grain of salt.

If the Moto G really is a renamed Moto DVX, that means we can expect the device to ship with a 4.5-inch LCD display, Motorola's X8 computer system, dual-SIM support and a price tag that's under $250 outright (at least according to past rumors). The DVX is also believed to have a swappable back that will allow you to customize the look of your phone.

Considering the Motorola DVX (Moto G?) is aimed at budget and emerging markets, it also seems possible that the handset might end up being sold directly through Google Play in some regions – though that's yet to be confirmed one way or another.

What do you think, could the Moto G really be the Motorola DVX? Could Google and Motorola be planning to announce the Moto G alongside the Nexus 5 later this month?
