Isis mobile wallet goes nationwide with T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon
Nov 14th 2013, 15:37, by Robert Nelson

Isis mobile payments are now available nationwide. The mobile payment solution launched with support for three of the four major US carriers and will work with select devices and at select retail locations. The carrier support includes T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon Wireless — and each have a different version of the Isis Mobile Wallet app available.

Similar to what we have seen with Google Wallet, Isis uses NFC (Near Field Communication), which means only select Android handsets will be compatible. Isis also requires what they refer to as an “enhanced” SIM card, which is basically another way of saying that in addition to downloading the app — you will need to either call or visit your carrier for an different SIM card to get up and running.

That said, the Isis Mobile Wallet will allow users to shop, pay and save. The wallet is PIN protected and currently supports credit cards from American Express and Chase. Isis users can also add money to their wallet using an American Express Serve account, which expands the supported credit cards and also includes debit cards and bank accounts for funding.

Details from Isis point towards “hundreds of thousands of locations nationwide.” Nonetheless, we suspect the availability will vary depending on where you live, work or play. Isis does have a “where” page available, and in our testing, we found three locations close, one of which was Office Depot.

Along with making payments using an NFC capable device, Isis also stores loyalty card details and finds nearby retailers that offer cards you may not yet have. With that, the Isis app is available in the Google Play Store for T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon Wireless.

AT&T Galaxy S 4 Android 4.3 update begins
Nov 14th 2013, 15:06, by Robert Nelson

AT&T has become the latest US carrier to begin rolling Android 4.3 out to Galaxy S 4 users. This update has arrived for Verizon Wireless users and more recently, for those sporting a US Cellular branded Galaxy S 4. As of today, AT&T users will be able to grab the update, and as a forewarning, this is a rather large update.

The update measures in at just shy of 720MB in size. Basically, this is one that you will want to download on a WiFi connection, both for speed, but also just to save some data usage. Perhaps key here, this will have your handset going to Android 4.3 and with a build number is JSS15J.1337UCUEMJ9.

Goodies associated with the update include support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch and also Samsung KNOX. These basically mean the user can now go out an spend $299 to purchase the smartwatch, or take advantage of the security features that come along with KNOX. For those unfamiliar with the latter, KNOX is basically a setup that may appeal to the ‘bring your own device” crowd as it offers a secure section that separates work and personal.

With that in mind, those carrying an AT&T branded Galaxy S 4 now have two options. The first is to sit back and wait for the update notification to arrive. Those going this route will need only to follow the prompts and enjoy the new features once the update has been installed and the phone finishes rebooting. The second alternative is to go looking and for that you will need to head into the settings and check manually at -> Settings -> More -> About device -> Software update -> Check now.

Verizon Moto X gets temporary price drop through Moto Maker
Nov 14th 2013, 14:36, by Robert Nelson

Motorola recently unveiled the long-rumored Moto G, however the Moto X has had quite a bit going on lately. The handset dropped in price across the US carriers and perhaps just as exciting of news for those who had been hoping for a Moto Maker customized model — that also came available across all four major US carriers. That of course, includes Verizon Wireless.

To that point, it looks like Big Red has done something that allows them to stand out from the other three carriers — dropped the price yet again. The Moto Maker handsets remain with a regular price of $99.99 (on a two-year agreement), however for a limited time, those choosing to customize a Verizon capable Moto X can grab it for half-that. Effective now and running through November 18th, that price has been cut by $50.

This offer doesn’t require any special coupon code. The price will be automatically adjusted during the checkout process. Also, to clarify, this applies to both the 16GB and 32GB model. That means price points of $49.99 or $99.99 respectively. Of course, those price points do include a two-year commitment. Having gone through the checkout process to verify the pricing, we found this also includes a Motorola Skip at no additional cost.

Otherwise, while Motorola or Verizon have yet to offer specifics, a soak test recently began for the Moto X. There has been some speculation and hope this means Android 4.4 Kit Kat will be coming, but we do have to remember that in the past, Motorola has used these soak tests for small and large updates so it could be anything. Still, that hope comes from the fact that Motorola recently mentioned Kit Kat was coming to all Moto X users in a “matter of weeks.”
