Blackberry denies the Play Store will be on their devices
Nov 12th 2013, 17:39, by Nate Swanner

A few days ago, some pictures were circulating showing the Google Play Store running on a Blackberry Z10. There was no animation, or video, just still images of the Play Store on a Blackberry device. Many speculated that Blackberry had turned the corner we all wanted them to and adapted to life with Android. Blackberry, however, has shot that one down.

In a statement to crackberry.com, a Blackberry spokesperson categorically denies that their hardware will be running the Google Play Store. The statement also notes that Blackberry World, their app hub, will remain open:

There is no planned support for Google Play on BlackBerry. BlackBerry World remains the primary source for trusted and curated BlackBerry applications and we continue to support open standards and open source tools so BlackBerry developers can continue to create great apps on any of the development platforms we support.

This all came about in the wake of Blackberry's new CEO saying that jumping into Android wasn't their immediate focus, and that he wanted to be a bit more pragmatic in his approach moving forward. The statement also peels Blackberry from an earlier stance in which they vowed to move into the enterprise sector and leave the consumer market to bigger players. Blackberry, in a state of terminal demise, seems content to take a slow approach to nowhere.

We still hope to see one of those well built Blackberry devices running Android, but it doesn't seem likely at this point. Blackberry's buyout from Fairfax hasn't gone through, and their new CEO seems to want to take it slow. It's possible the picture which cause so much attention was from some internal testing at Blackberry, but more likely that it was just a well crafted hoax.

Dayframe digital photo frame app exits beta
Nov 12th 2013, 16:52, by Robert Nelson

Dayframe is an app that we have been looking at recently. Details of the app emerged earlier in the month and thanks to an available beta, we were able to take an early look at the app. Basically, Dayframe will turn your Android tablet or smartphone into a digital photo frame.

The app brings support for a wide variety of online services. Not to mention, the ability to pull images that are stored locally. The supported services include Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, Tumblr, Dropbox, 500px, Google+ and Twitter. Launching the app for the first time will allow you to set the sources, however these can always be adjusted later on.

And nicely, once a service has been set, there are options to further customize. Take Tumblr for example, you can choose to have it display your dashboard or liked photos as well as images from those you follow. The app also has options for those looking to do a bit of image exploration. Or in other words, you can use Dayframe without using your personal images.

Dayframe has a Discover option that allows you to pick from a list of interests, which are then used to narrow down topics and people to follow. Other options within the app include timers, slideshows and ways to make sure you turn Dayframe off before running your device completely dry of battery life. Another use case example is to show live party pics using Dayframe and Instagram.

All that having been said, the important part here is that Dayframe has exited beta and is now available for all. And along with the public non-beta release, the app has also been given proper support for Android 4.4 Kit Kat, which was an issue for us when we took that early look last week. Anyway, Dayframe is free to download and free to use and can be found using the source link sitting below.

Jabra Rox Wireless Bluetooth earbuds unveiled
Nov 12th 2013, 16:12, by Robert Nelson

Jabra has unveiled their latest set of wireless headphones this morning. Or in this case, a set of wireless earbuds. These are the Jabra Rox Wireless earbuds and while there hasn’t been any price details revealed, the folks at Jabra have said these can be expected to arrive in December.

Jabra Rox - Black - Accessories

The Jabra Rox earbuds are wireless to the device, though there is a wire that connects the two earbuds. These will connect over Bluetooth and can initially be paired using NFC (or Bluetooth for those without an NFC capable device). Jabra is also touting these are being earbuds with Dolby Digital Plus sound and a battery life of up to 5.5 hours.

In comparison, the Jabra Sport Wireless+ headphones are rated at up to 4 hours of battery life. Part of the battery life for the Rox Wireless earbuds will be with what Jabra is referring to as “exclusive built-in power saving magnets.” These magnets will clip the earbuds together and when connected — they will automatically enter a power-saving mode.

Otherwise, the Rox Wireless earbuds will have an IP52 rating which means they are able to handle some dust and water. Or in other words, these should be good for those out and about — and mean less worry about getting caught in the rain. Jabra has these earbuds listed as weighing in at 18.99 grams.

Similar to other Jabra products, these Rox Wireless earbuds will be working with the Jabra Sound app. The app is free to download, though it does require an activation code (that comes in the package). Perhaps more important, the app allows user to optimize sound, create playlists and more.

Google Glass Play Music support and Glass Earbuds confirmed
Nov 12th 2013, 15:45, by Robert Nelson

There had been some recent talk about how the Google Glass XE11 update was setting the path for Play Music support. At the time that talk was based on details discovered by users taking a deep dive in the update, however a more recent update has confirmed the support. The details have been shared on the official +GoogleGlass page and are asking users to “look for an email in the next few weeks.”

We suspect there will be more details in the coming weeks, however Google has updated the Glass page with some key bits. Not to mention, a recent Glass Explorer Story video has appeared with the focus on, you guessed it, music. That video can be seen sitting below, and otherwise, the newly update Glass page talks Play Music support and Glass Earbuds.

At this time Google has mentioned how “your favorite songs from Google Play Music” are coming soon to Glass. And in addition, this support will not only include your tracks, but those available from All Access as well. There hasn’t been much revealed on the Glass Earbuds either, however we are getting a bit of a look.

These appear to be set with two wires, and taking advantage of the same jack that we saw used for the mono earbud. For now Google has simply said these will be “lightweight and uniquely engineered to deliver crisp, full-range audio while still letting your hear your surroundings.” In addition, the Glass Earbuds will also be customizable with interchangeable color caps.
